  1. Hey thanks, I'll be keeping the NH12 (ordering an AM5 mounting kit) along with the EVGA 850 platinum supply, and Mini ITX case I have currently. The rest will all be new. I won't be getting the 4070 until spring so it would just be CPU/MB/RAM/HDD (need a bigger one anyway). Thanks for the help everyone, I think I'm going to go with the 7800X3D which will also give me an upgrade path for the remaining life of AM5 should I want to go that route! Haven't been on AMD since my X4 955 I'm in western Canada so I will be pulling part prices from NE and PCPP then getting them beat by Memory Express. Appreciate the help everyone!
  2. Hello Everyone! TLDR: If you had a 1080ti and do indie/arcade gaming, light premier pro, music recording, and the main goal is to improve system responsiveness and cut down on stuttering/hitching, would you upgrade to a 13600k or a 7800x3d? ---------- I posted a while back and got some advice that I should grab a 13600k, keep my 1080ti and call it a day. Now that the AM5 stuff is out full swing I'm looking for a bit more guidance. - I do light indie/arcade gaming, a few hours a week. 1440p, 165hz monitor. My most demanding titles are probably Ready or Not & Session. I would love to get back into Ground Branch (CPU too old according to devs), and play some Darktide (barely playable on my current system and changing graphics settings makes no difference leading me to think it's the CPU). - We do a bit of premier pro for YouTube content. Nothing professional, the 8700k has been fine since I usually render on the 1080ti. - We use reaper for multi track music recording. 8700k has been fine for this as well. I recently moved my PC into an open air micro ITX case in order to free up space on my desk and I've been loving the formfactor. The trouble is it's a B motherboard and I can't overclock. I notice a massive difference in system responsiveness, and I'm getting quite a bit of hitching/stuttering in Windows and 100% CPU usage since moving to the smaller board (I have remounted the CPU just to see if that was the issue but it didn't make a difference). I didn't think the OC would have made that big of a difference but it did. This was a fresh W11 install on a 256GB M.2 for the OS paired with a 1TB M.2 for storage/games. 8700k with Noctua NH12. Asus B360-I. Corsair 32GB DDR4 3000. EVGA 850 Platinum. EVGA 1080ti SC. 2X WD m.2 Black. Basically I'm looking for an upgrade to improve system responsiveness. Most games (that I can run) are in the 80-120 range so I'm pretty good on FPS (a slight boost wouldn't hurt of course) but lots of stuttering and hitching in games after moving to the B360-I. I was keen on upgrading to the 13600k based on that last post, but now I'm curious about the 7800x3D. Just wondering if anyone has some advice on an upgrade path or even some personal experience with both CPU's. There are currently some MEM-X CPU/MB bundles that have me intrigued. *****In January I get some money from work to spend on computer parts and I think I'll be grabbing an ASUS 4070 (I need a 2 slot version for my case) which should tide me over for the next few years. Thanks for the help. M~
  3. Sounds good thank you. Tracking down a Z370 and pairing it with a 4070 might be the play. A few years ago I had the 8700 in a full size tower and was able to hit 4.9 which provided a pretty solid uplift. I recently re did my office and moved the rig into a Mini ITX to save on space and I can defiantly tell the different with it running at stock speeds. Thanks for all the help. M~
  4. Hey thanks everyone! I've seen some posts about getting DOUBLE THE FPS and others saying there was no difference so I'm not sure what to expect. I would at least expect some improvements in lows and stuttering. The cooler is old I think it's the NH-u12s? (doesn't have the offset) I did change the fans out for the black industrial ones not sure it makes any difference on cooling performance. I thought you could OC the B760? There are RAM OC specs on the MB page, maybe I'm misunderstanding? Are they just talking about XMP and not CPU overclocking? Guess I should just grab a KF then and save another $30 if I can't oc on that board. My other plan was to blow the budget on a 4070, but I think the platform upgrade would be more worthwhile for everyday use. M~
  5. Hello everyone! TLDR: I'm wondering if upgrading from an 8700K to the 13600K but keeping the 1080ti would net me a few more frames? Current rig: 8700k with Noctua NH12. Asus B360-I. Corsair 32GB DDR4 3000. EVGA 850 Platinum. EVGA 1080ti SC. 2X WD m.2 Black. My rig is starting to show it's age even after a fresh install of W11. Getting more stuttering in games, and the system just doesn't seem as snappy as it used to be. I've been planning an upgrade for a while now but ran into some budget issues so I have about $900 CAD avaliable for the foreseeable future. I'm considering grabbing the following. 13600K (was going to go for a 13700K but figured I could reuse my old cooler on the 13600K since it runs cooler. I will need a new mounting bracket of course). Asus B760I 32GB DDR5 I don't play may new games, mostly older/arcade/indie stuff. The most demanding game I have installed right now is ReadyOrNot. I'm getting drops into the 40's on some maps. DX11 runs smoother but changing video settings doesn't do much. DX12 stutters more but I'm able to use FSR for +25 frames (not a fan of the FSR haze though). The GPU is at 100% usage with either DX11/DX12. I'll be playing a bit of D4 when it's out aswell but the beta ran just fine on my current rig so no concerns there. I was also into Ground Branch for a few weeks but drops into the 30's regardless of settings and very stuttery. Gaming at 1440p btw. These days we use the PC mainly for PremierPro, and audio production using Reaper. Gaming is a once in a while thing but the stuttering and low fps is starting to feel bad. I'm wondering if upgrading from an 8700K to the 13600K but keeping the 1080ti would net me a few more frames? I know the lows will be better and the stuttering will be improved but what about FPS? I would also have the ability to OC with the new platform which I can't do on the B360I (could help out with rendering times, and maybe another few more FPS). Thanks for help.
  6. Hey thanks, yes I know that will happen, but running the ram at a lower speed with the same timings will drastically impact the performance no? I'm hoping to scrape out a similar level of performance as I'll be running this setup for the rest of the year. Maybe possible to drop the kit to 2666 and tighten the timings a bit?
  7. Hello, I'm limping along with an 8700k and 1080ti for my main desktop build and planning an upgrade towards the end of the year. The motherboard seems to have bit the bullet but I have an Asus B360-I board in another build that I can use. I figured I can just swap it over then found out these boards have no overclocking functionality. I will be running my current 3200 CL16 ram, but I understand the boards only support up to 2666 regardless of XMP or CPU compatibility. Is this correct? I've got an 8100 in there currently which only supports 2400 ram so I can't test my faster kit without a full CPU swap and I don't want to dismantle the 8100 rig just yet. Does anyone know if I can use XMP on this sad board to hit the 3200 CL16 speed of my current kit? I am running the latest bios. It seems like there is a pretty significant performance difference between 2666 and 3200 and it would be a shame to throw that away. What about dropping the ram speed to 2666 and dropping the timings? Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks,
  8. Hello Everyone, So I'm been encountering what I would call motion blur, or loss of clarity while turning quickly in most games (starts to give me a headache after a short time). I first noticed it on Sandstorm which started my nearly year long mission of troubleshooting different NCP settings, monitor settings, Windows settings (even the exploit protection stuff), config files, but I've had no luck at all. 1080ti, 8700k @ 4.7, 370F, 32GB 3000 RAM, Soundblaster Z (speakers are coming out of the 3.5 jacks), Asus PG278QR, Filco Ninja, Logitech G15v2. I also have a cd drive, printer, and a Roland audio interface plugged in via USB. Games that I've experienced this in. Sandstorm Insurgency (old) Siege CSGO Ground Branch Games that are running smooth Borderlands 2 Dirt Rally DRG Robo Quest Sea Of Thieves D3 ---------- I initially thought it was my monitor or GPU causing the issues or maybe my eyeballs are just getting older, until I noticed some games don't have this problem. NCP Settings, all default except VSYNC off, Frame Limiter = 162, GSYNC on. Monitor settings: OC = 165, blue light filter off, brightness 0, contrast 30, saturation 100, color temp user 100/100/100, gamma 2.5, Image OD = Normal, Adaptive contract = off, darkboost = off, picture mode = FPS. If anyone has any troubleshooting ideas please let me know. I know my setup is getting a bit older, but the fact that some games are smooth makes me think it could be a setting somewhere. Or maybe it's just these specific game engines/dev studios that have done something different with rendering? I've also experimented with ULMB but prefer the smoothness and higher refresh rate of GSYNC. I did a fresh Win10 install about two years ago when I migrated everything to m.2 drives. Thanks.
  9. I decided to go all out and order the Filco Ninja. It's glorious!!! No mushy feeling stabilized keys! RIP G15v2... You've had a good run.
  10. Hey thanks for the quick reply. I've seen those mentioned a few times so I'll do some more digging.
  11. Hello Everyone. I've been using a G15v2 pretty much since they came out. I've put a lot of miles on it and am thinking it is time for an upgrade. I did a bunch of research and settled on a G513 with linear switches. Great typing feel but I Immediately noticed that the longer stabilized buttons were quite mushy and lacking in response compared to the smaller keys. More research and I discovered that they use cherry stabilizers which many folks have labeled as "mushy". I would prefer to get something already built and I'm wondering what modern boards have costar stabs? Backlight would be nice but I'm not married to it. Looking to be around $150 CAD all in (if possible) Thanks.
  12. Actually I don't think that is the right connector. It says the module has to be purchased separately? I've attached a picture of the section in the manual.
  13. I think the first one might just do it! I'll have to check the port on my MB to make sure. THANKS!
  14. Hello, Just got a z370-F and the dang thing only has one USB 3.0 header. I've got the front plugged into that but have another USB 3.0 bay in the back. Currently have it hooked up with a 2.0-3.0 adapter. Anyone know if there are any 3.0 - 3.1 header adapters? Or even any rear bays that hook up to the new 3.1 header ports yet? Thanks,
  15. Hey QB, I'll be keeping the old screen for an additional display. I'll check out some benchmarks on the I5. Haven't given them much attention.
