You can find old office desktops that aren’t convertible for gaming in the $50 range.  The ones that are are in th $300 range, but the ones that can’t are consideded trash grade.  A 7th gen 2/4 intel machine or something.  Decent power usage a lot more I/o and just easier to deal with in general.  Another option is pi actually got clones.  Ther is orange pi and banana pi and a bunch of others, and they DON’T have the scalping problem.  A third option is beaglebone which is a single board that runs on BSD instead of Linux.  They’re even cheaper, and I know for a fact that you can get mythTV to run on one with some massaging because my upstairs tenant did it.

Yeah, i've actually found some cheap Optiplux's online that are in my price range but i haven't found one that i specifically want yet. I have looked at Pi clones myself already, one of them actually being Beaglebone. The other i looked at is the Libre Computer Le Potato, but idk about that one. Seems like it's not really supported anymore.

For basic stuff  i think small pc will do the job watching youtube and stuff and raspi is pretty much overprized in all online retailers. If you can find one in stock at the msrp (50$) that is the only reason to buy it now. Watching yt and playing small games is well served by a dell optiplux like old office pcs  and they are cheap on everywhere you  want to add a ssd  if it didnt have one already and you have a pretty good machine for any basic tasks.

Yeah, alright. I get it! I'll look for Optiplux's and other similar PC's then instead.

That is the perfect use for pi. Do you like programming and stuff. There is tons of kits that for differant stuff thats why iam asking

Unfortunately, i have zero knowledge in programming so... that's not my main reason of getting a Pi. With ''play'' around i pretty much mean watching Youtube, etc and extremely basic stuff if it can even handle that. lol

Be aware that a RasPi uses an ARM based CPU, so don't expect anything other than native open source Linux games to run on it.

Not sure what the market is like in your area, but around here Pis currently seem to cost x4 from what they should.

Maybe consider some small form factor x86 based machine instead.

Yeah, uhm... everything is pretty much sold out in my area/country. And sadly, not many physical stores have Raspberry Pi's in my country. It's mostly online, which are also out of stock. lol I guess i'll look for something similar then or whatever.

Pi is a arm based Machine and it is very underperforming for the basic tasks also so not a alternative to a laptop you can run some emulators for gaming that pretty much it and cloud stream might work i really dont tried it. it is mostly a fun project thing rather than a day to day computer replacement. You can do so many awesome things with pi but it wont be a replacement for a laptop. And pi is now overpriced on online retailers so check the stores. if you are just gonna put some emulator or just using as a mini Pc You only need a micro Hdmi to fullsize  Hdmi Adapter or a cable, a monitor, A 32Gb Sd card and a usb c charger i think pi comes with one im not that sure.  if for daily use get a mini Pc or dell OptiPlex from 5 or so years and i think it blow raspberry pi into wild when it comes to D2D use

Ohh, alright! Yeah, well i'm not really replacing it with anything and i probably won't use it on a daily basis. I just want a Pi because i want something more to ''play'' around with.

  6. Hi! So... i recently got quite interested in buying a Raspberry Pi (for just regular at-home use, like an alternative to a laptop and possibly some extremely light gaming). I literally have 0 knowledge about anything Rasperry Pi related, so i'm asking here for the best cheapest starter kit.

I don't really have a budget, but maybe like $60+ or $80+ but not over $100. I know i'd probably have to spend atleast $100 to actually get a decent working kit but... i'm getting a Raspberry Pi just for fun, so i don't really feel like spending over $100 or even $100 at all to be honest.

It's the link rate of the protocol, not necessarily how fast the drive can spit out bits. HDDs cap around 200MBps (i.e. roughly 2Gbps, lowercase 'b'), so the link isn't the bottleneck.

The hard drive communicates through a SATA interface, which has a maximum bandwidth of 6 gbps - think of the sata interface and cable like a highway.  The "highway" is built in such a way that one could in theory "drive" on it with speeds up to 200 miles an hour (your 6 gbps) , but that doesn't mean cars will actually go up to that speed.

A SSD will be able to achieve up to around 560 MB/s through the SATA interface. Modern hard drive will do up to around 250 MB/s.

The USB 3.0 / 3.1 gen 1 / 3.2 gen 1 maximum bandwidth is 5 gbps - this is the maximum number of bits that can be transmitted between a usb device and a usb controller, but it's not the maximum amount of actual data that can be transmitted. The actual data amount is lower, because data has to be transferred in "packets" and each packet has some extra information attached to the packet.

So, maybe 5-10% of the maximum bandwidth is not actually usable.

In practice, you may be able to achieve up to around 4.2-4.5 gbps on USB 5 gbps - that's around 400 MB/s.

Oohhhh, alright. Thanks for the explanations and clarifications! That's actually really interesting, now that i know more on how it works. Thanks, once again!

Most "high performance" hard drives these days gets at most 200MB/s in sequential benchmarks. The WD black for example tops out at around 160MB/s.

That USB connection you got can handle 625 MB/s (5 gigabit = 625 megabytes).

You are nowhere close to saturating the USB connection.

You could probably run 4 hard drives in RAID 0 and still not be bottlenecked by the USB interface.

I have absolutely no clue what that RAID 0 means lol, a quick google search made me understand a tiny bit more though. Anyways, i guess everything should be completely fine then? And i shouldn't have to worry about anything?

HDDs can't reach 5Gbps, let alone 6. It won't affect anything. It may show up with an SSD, but it's still plenty fast.

Hmm, alright then i guess i've most likely misunderstood something. I guess the ''SATA 6gb/s'' is something completely different then and not the transfer speed? Yeah, uhm i clearly have absolutely no idea what any of this is or means. Thank you, though!

  10. Hello!

Hopefully this isn't TOO confusing and i probably should've asked this here, before ordering the LogiLink UA0284 harddrive enclosure thing.
I want to put a harddrive from my old PC into my new PC and to simplify things i thought of getting one of those enclosures that turns an internal harddrive into an external one.

The enclosure i ordered only allows up to 5gb transfer speed (with usb 3.0) and my harddrive has 6gb transfer speed, does this matter in any way that the enclosure is only 1gb slower than the actual harddrive?
I'm guessing the harddrive should still work fine but like, will there be any noticable difference when transfering to/from it or when installing games to it?

I ordered the LogiLink UA0284 for my Western Digital WD10EZEX, to be a little more specific.

  11. Hi, so I've started to get pretty annoyed at my current Logitech G603 mouse, not that it's bad or anything at all. I've just come to the realization that it's too small for my hands.

I also tend to hold my mouse in quite a retarded way, like my hand is at a 60 degree angle on the mouse which has started to annoy me aswell. I'm also pretty tired of my mouse being wireless, so no more wireless.

Anyways, i saw the Cooler Master MM720 that looks wide enough but more ''chunky'' than my G603. So... any recommendations? My budget is around 30-60$-ish or €, since i'm in EU.

if you sign up anfor the website and check your email you get a $20 coupon

Really? :o I signed up in 2016 and haven't gotten any coupons. I checked my email that i signed up with, etc and saw nothing.

also for beydynamics as a 990 owner myself I dont personally think they are super great for bass heads decent amount of midbass but the subbass extension isnt the greatest if you want bass head headphones closed backs will be more reliable in giving you bass

Yeah i've had the Philips Fidelio X2's and they sounded great for being openback and i got surprised by how much better my DT770 Pro's sounded when i switched to them. Anyways thanks for the recommendation of those Meze 99 Noirs. I'll see in the coming days which headphones i'll buy. So many to choose from now!

Had a typo that literally made the whole sentence have another meaning than intended.

I wanted to say "You only LOSE a little audio resolution and detail". I didn't want to say "You only USE a little".

    Sorry for that.

Ohh ok... Well that's fine. Yeah i was honestly quite confused as to what you meant.

A nice bass head can I like to listen to if you can stretch that budget like $10 and use the new user coupon on massdrop is the meze 99 noir. Nice laid back but a really nice amount of thump when the song demands it.

Ohh wow ok! I'll see if i can stretch my budget a tiny bit more... I don't really feel like paying $200 for just a pre-order though. I have zero patience so i want headphones asap.

My Audio-Technica M40X's are stupidly bassy, and are pretty cheap. They get pretty good reviews and don't need a damn speaker amp to get them loud enough.

Stupidly bassy as in good bass? Like is it really good bass for their price?

4 minutes ago, Alex Ushigome said:

Do you have a pre-existing DAC/AMP? And any gaming?

I don't have a DAC nor Amp. I play alot of games, on PC specifically but i also listen to music pretty much daily.

  16. 28 minutes ago, Stahlmann98 said:

I run an internal sound card with a included headphone amp to power this model. They are also available in a 32 Ohm version for use without amps. You only use a little audio resolution and detail with the lower Ohm models, but the sound profile stays the same.

Ohh alright! I have no clue if i'll buy them though... it's really hard to decide when you literally want everything you see.

  17. 40 minutes ago, Stahlmann98 said:

I really love my DT990 Edition 600 Ohm, but i think they have comparably weak bass. It's not that rumbly, but very clear. I personally really like the sound profile of the DT990's.

Hmm... ok. Do you run them through an amp or whatever? If so do they sound worse without? Clearly i'm not really that experienced with audio related stuff so i have no idea. I've never owned nor tried a headphone amp.

  18. Hi! I recently noticed that my Beyerdynamic DT770 Pro's are half-broken... The right cup is much quiter than the left.

Yes, i could buy the exact same again but i'm a guy who wants to try out new things when stuff breaks, etc which is why i'm here and wanna ask for suggestions. Just like the title says i'm a bass head so i'd love some headphones with booming bass without them sounding muddy or whatever and without having to bass boost it with a software like i did with my Beyerdynamics.

I don't really have a budget but possibly somewhere around $150-170. Could the AKG K371 or K361 maybe be something for me?

I mean let's start with the basics, I guess it could be:
        1. Any sort of driver issue (Unlikely, unless after any sort of update...).

        2. Overloaded ram(?) Basically too many apps running in the background (Chrome, Spotify, wallpaper managers, any screen recorders, etc.).

        3. Have you tried contacting MS support? (guessing it is Windows).

        4. I haven't really played with it, but have you tried any virtual memory, from a drive? (Again, assuming you are using Windows).

Stay safe and keep us posted!

Probably not overloaded ram. I close most of the programs that for example starts auto with Windows (also yes, i've got Windows 10) and programs i barely use. Never tried any virtual memory. I also haven't gotten the time to try and contact MS support yet.

Also like that other guy that replied first said to check the windows error log. I've got almost 13k not errors but things that has happened. Most of them seem to be something with the built in ''Intel(R) Dual Band Wireless-AC 3168'' for bluetooth. And i have no idea what the rest of them means because i'm not AT all an expert with PC's. Almost forgot... I have no idea if it's any sort of driver issues.

If its the ram, then its going to be a page file error or instead of crashing it would slow way down. Although you should probably upgrade to 16GB of ram, since games these days chew up ram. Have you looked at the windows error logs? Usually that can tell you whats going on, somewhat. Make sure nothing is over heating or anything strange like that.

Hmm ok. Good to know. Never checked the windows error logs. Will do that now though and see.

  21. Hi. First off, sorry if this is in the wrong part of the forums. My system is pre-built by MSI though. Anyways, i recently encountered a semi-serious issue with my PC. Some games just randomly closes down while either loading into something or just when playing. This all started last week and the PC has never been like this before. Could it possibly be my 8gb of ram that is acting up? Oh btw, my system has got: GTX 1060 3gb, 8gb ram, intel i5 7400.

It happened the first time when i was playing some FiveM and then it has just escalated and started happening in other games aswell.

Since then i've also started to take closer looks at the task manager whenever i start games and it almost maxes out the ram sometimes. So i honestly think the ram isn't feeling well but i'm still not too sure. Thus why i'm asking here.

  22. Hi. I recently got myself my first OnePlus (in this case a 7T) and haven't had any issues with it so far. Almost a month later is when the issues are popping up and thus why i'm here.

1st issue was the sound glitches... It like sounds slowed down but stuttery and cuts in-out it disappears after restarting whatever app it is a few times though.

2nd is that it sometimes wont log in with Google Play. Weirdly helps with a restart of the phone though.

3rd seemed to have fixed itself now and that was that it wouldn't wanna download/update apps which also helped with a restart most of the time.

This is seriously starting to piss me off since i've heard quite some good things about OnePlus and this is what i get for $679.
