  1. Then maybe I still have a chance to get this baby to work. Thank you very much for the fast and clear replies.
  2. This is what Palit says in the 970 page:
  3. But it should still be detected right? if it should then I have absolutely no idea of what the hell is wrong with this GPU. Check out my previous post about this maybe you can see something I haven't seen yet... and thanks
  4. The GPU does get power from the PCIe since when its detected, the card gets warm and the fan spins.
  5. Okay so I made this mess of a post earlier on: Then I realized the problem might be something completely different. Long story short, my GPU is only recognized when the 2 6pin connectors it needs are disconnected (it also only gets power from the PCIe if they are not connected). But I forgot something. Im using 2 Sata to 6pin adapters (since my PSU only has 1 6pin) which worked fine with the lower end GPU I was using. Lets assume the PSU´s 6pin is dead, the 970 requires 150W of power and i'm powering it up with 2 sata cables AKA 100W max and the PCIe. If the PCIe only powers the GPU (and also detects it) when the connectors are NOT plugged in, does that mean the GPU detects its not getting enough power and shuts down completely thus not letting my PC detect it? That would explain why the GPU only gets detected when it has no 6pins connected AKA its not getting PSU power at all so it doesn't shut down and lets the PCIe power and detect it. Can anyone confirm this hipothesis? Also if anyone can explain me why Palit says the 970 requires 150W to work but needs 2x 6pins? a 6pin connector is 75W right? so 75W from the PCIe + 75 from 1 6pin should be just enough right?
  6. I went to the BIOS and enabled the option to "automatically make the PCIe GPU the main graphics adapter if detected" and this showed up after I booted up in the Device manager. It basically means that Windows detects the GPU as a "basic Microsoft screen adapter" (I know this because it says the source is coming from the PCI bus) and says that the device doesnt work properly due to the lack of drivers for it (code 31) and that "The driver (we) are trying to start isnt the same as the one in the POST screen" I have no idea of what this means. The card is still connected without the 6pin connectors (that's why it even recognizes there's something in the PCIe)
  7. It was the driver residues. Drivers wiped, card still not recognized, I discovered the card does NOT get warm when not detected as if by connecting the 6pin connectors the PCIe stops giving power to the card... just what the hell is going on with this 970?
  8. DDU recognizes the 970? or it assumes its a 970 because of the driver residues?
  9. What do you mean by properly connected? If you mean with the 6pin connectors connected then It wont be recognized thus not letting me install any drivers Also I "hot swapped" the GPU and it just turned off the PC immediately and turned on again. Nothing has changed.
  10. I uninstalled all my drivers but I cant install them unless I disconnect the 6pins in order to let the PC recognize it and then install them but that wouldn't fix my problem right? The first thing my PC did when it first recognized my GPU was install the new drivers through GeForce Experience. I'm thinking about disconnecting and connecting the GPU to the mobo with the PC still on and the card not recognized.
  11. but how will I do a clean install if my GPU is not detected?
  12. First things first, I was in Colombia (where we use voltages different to the EU) and was powering my Palit GTX 970 using my KCAS 500W PSU and a generic PSU with the American voltages for the rest of the PC (which was pretty old using a 1st gen i3). It worked perfectly fine until a lighting strike fell nearby and although the PC was shut down it wasn't plugged off the wall socket and my GPU stopped working. It gave me black screen and wasn't recognized in the BIOS. The PSU seems to be ok and I still use it. It´s been 3 months and I decided to give it a lucky shot in my new PC and here´s where the weird starts: Surprisingly, my GPU is detected in the BIOS and Windows but ONLY when it doesnt have the 2x 6-pin connectors it needs connected (I discovered this because I totally forgot to plug them in the first time lol). Ive tried everything from using Molex-SATA-6pin and SATA-6pin adapters in case the 6pin from the PSU is dead and plugging them in every single SATA and Molex ports my PSU has to Drivers and searching 10 pages of Google. The card gets warm after a while in both cases so its definetly getting power from the PCIe x16. It also doesn't give any signal when detected. Device manager tells me that windows disabled the 970 using code 43 (I guess because of the 6pins not being connected) I've tried hot plugging/unplugging it and I've had these results: no pins to pins connected: The GPU stops being recognized by Windows pins connected to no pins: Nothing changes, Windows still doesn't recognize it no pins to pins but connecting the adapters to the PSU after plugging the 6pins: The fan suddenly goes to 100% speed after connecting just 1 (the SATA-6pin adapter) (I shut down the computer in panic) no pins to pins but connecting the adapters to the PSU after plugging the 6pins: Nothing happens and I believe I plugged the other adapter first (MOLEX-SATA-6pìn). (I stopped here not wanting to fvck anything up doing things with the PC turned on) The only thing I can think of is that the very 6pin connectors on the GPU are broken or burnt from the overvoltage caused by the lighting strike but that wouldn't explain why it stops being recognized after I plug in both 6 pin connectors or even just 1 of them. is it my PSU? is it something in the GPU? Am I missing something? I refuse to believe my GTX 970 is dead just yet. I hope someone can help me solve this. Thanks.
