  1. Hi just finished my new build I was asking advice on not so long ago! Not as flashy as some of the other build on here but it packs a good amount of power in a small package. Parts: https://uk.pcpartpicker.com/list/cszDBP I found it really hard to keep the wires tidy in a case with hardly any space to hide them. and the strix 1080ti was a really tight fit (what I did to fit it in definitely voided its warranty)
  2. I think I've decided I'm happy with the purchase now, it was an impulse buy that I didn't really consider all the pros and cons. I'm sure the majority of you guys are right in saying the small performance boost is not worth the premium I paid for it but it's been dispatched now and I will be happy to start building my pc on Monday! This is my first build and I don't think I would have the confidence de-lidding the CPU and from what I gather this will help the temps, 5ghz seems like a good overclock I'm not going to be upset if I cant get it any higher. Thank you all for your replies my mind is a rest now I have had some time for the dust to settle. I also plan on showing my creation when it has been built! doing a 250d Mini ITX build.
  3. To be honest I thought as much, I'm happy to accept the £110 as an early adopters fee. I think I would explode if I had to stare at my new PC parts for another month or more! I'm going from a 2010 budget 2500k pc build with a upgrade to a R9 390 a few years back to a new 1080ti and 8700k. I just wanted to know peoples thoughts and try and justify to myself. I have put my 1080ti in my old rig for the moment but I think my 2500k is bottlenecking it to be honest.
  4. Hi! so I'm not a very patient person, and I have been waiting for my 8700k for a few weeks and the supplier I brought it from has kept pushing back the pre order date (I Know its probably not their fault) But when they pushed it to the 30th I snapped and made a bit of an impulse buy https://www.overclockers.co.uk/intel-core-i7-8700k-5.0ghz-coffee-lake-socket-lga1151-pre-binned-processor-oem-cp-00l-oe.html So I'm paying about £110 more than the standard price, but they had it in stock so I went with it! I have after doing some googleing a very limited understanding of pre binned CPU's. generally are they worth it? I know that any 8700k can reach 5ghz + but I suppose I'm paying for the knowledge it will at least be able to achieve this. So yeah is it just wasted money or not really.
  5. Looking forward to the benchmarks! I have just purchased a new similar build with the INTEL 8700k ASUS STRIX Z370i Mini ITX & ASUS STRIX GTX1080TI 11GB OC. Not looking forward to trying to fit it in the corsair 250d case I have got for it though. Nice build so far!
  6. I Think I may try adding in a https://uk.pcpartpicker.com/product/2fWrxr/noctua-nf-a12x15-flx-942-cfm-120mm-fan-nf-a12x15-flx if it fits. I have come across another dilemma annoyingly the RAM I have ordered is out of stock and isn't being restocked. Does anyone have any recommendations as to the best DDR4 16GB RAM around £150-220 price range. I was looking at 3200hz but I don't know if this is important or not, rgb isn't hugely important but I don't want a led unless its blue, simple black or silver is fine too. Im looking at https://uk.pcpartpicker.com/product/XxcMnQ/corsair-memory-cmd16gx4m2b3200c16
  7. Thanks for the reply I think I will try and exchange the h115i for an h100i. I did take a look at the two cases you mentioned they both seem to restrict airflow for the GPU, I like that the 250d has the GPU get rid of heat directly out the side. Do you think airflow will be ok with the Front fan removed in the 250d? I Do want to try and do a bit of overclocking with both the gpu & cpu though I am a novice when it comes to pc building.
  8. @Ordinarily_Greater Great thanks! do you think there would be any problem with the GPU being too big? I already have the H115i delivered so it would be a bit of a pain returning it so if it should fit that's great! @brob My bad! I copied some text over so my sizes were all over the place and weren't sure what font was standard. I've changed it now!
  9. Hi all! so I have ordered some parts for a new PC build and was originally planning to use my old mid style tower case, I have actually ordered an MSI Z370 SLI PLUS Socket LGA 1151 DDR4 ATX to go in it But I have had a change of heart and since I am still waiting for my pre-order of my Intel Core i7-8700K 3.70GHz LGA1151 Processor to be delivered I can still change my mind. Here are the answers to the questions recommended for new build posts; 1. Budget & Location Around £2500 (£950 already spent on delivered items) 2. Aim + 3. Monitors Mainly 1080p gaming on my Samsung 27" CFG70 Curved Gaming Monitor, But I also play some games on my 4k 55" Samsung curved TV with my Xbox one controller plus streaming 4k video content. 4. Peripherals Not included in budget 5. Why are you upgrading? I have a system based on 2010 components and would like to be able to play games at high settings 1080p 144hz and 4k at 60hz I have been looking into building a Micro PC build if possible based on what has already been delivered. It's not really a problem if it cant be done but I would like some help with choosing the right case and motherboard (and if any of the other components that haven't been delivered.) Here is what cant be changed as they have already been delivered; GPU ASUS ROG STRIX GTXOC1080TI 11GB (quite a large GPU not sure if it will fit in many small cases builds) Cooling Corsair CW-9060027-WW Hydro Series H115i 280 mm (Also quite big) Everything else was ordered with the CPU so can be changed but here is what I have ordered; CPU Intel Core i7-8700K 3.70GHz LGA1151 Processor ( I am happy with the choice of CPU and am not looking to change this) Ram Corsair Vengeance Blue LED 16GB DDR4 3200 Memory Kit- CMU16GX4M2C3200C16B 2x8gb SSD 2x Samsung 960 PRO V-NAND M.2 SSD - 512GB in Raid 0 ( Having second thoughts about this, thinking about keeping one 960 pro and buying a 1tb 850 evo) PSU Corsair CP-9020091-UK RM650x 650 W 80 Plus Gold Certified Modular 135 mm Motherboard MSI Z370 SLI PLUS Socket LGA 1151 DDR4 ATX (Will need to be changed if I decide to go for a micro build) I haven't a clue as to if everything would fit but I am looking at this as the complete build; CPU Intel Core i7-8700K 3.70GHz LGA1151 Processor Cooling Corsair CW-9060027-WW Hydro Series H115i 280 mm GPU ASUS ROG STRIX GTXOC1080TI 11GB Motherboard ASUS Intel 1151 Socket Z370 Chipset Strix I D4 Mini ITX Case Corsair CC-9011047-WW Obsidian Series 250D Windowed Mini-ITX Ram Corsair Vengeance Blue LED 16GB DDR4 3200 Memory Kit- CMU16GX4M2C3200C16B 2x8gb SSD 1 Samsung 960 PRO V-NAND M.2 SSD - 512GB SSD 2 Samsung 850 EVO 1 TB PSU Corsair CP-9020091-UK RM650x 650 W 80 Plus Gold Certified Modular 135 mm My main worry is actually the H115i then the 1080ti can anyone offer any advice? Thanks in advance! Edit: Increased font
  10. Hi I am upgrading my PC and have chosen 2x Samsung 960 PRO V-NAND M.2 SSD - 512GB Raid 0 as my main boot drive just because I have seen it recommended even if it is a little overkill for my gaming/streaming requirements. I'm not an experienced PC builder this will be my first pretty much full upgrade of my system and I need some help choosing a 2nd high capacity drive For backups and other media which doesn't need the high speeds of the 960's. I was thinking about buying a 3-4tb 7200rpm HDD of some sort and adding Intel octane though I have seen it may not be possible to use optane on a 2nd drive and not the boot drive. if that's not possible or just plain bad what hard drives would you guys recommend im looking to spend around £200-250. If it helps here is a link to my thread asking advice on my build.
  11. One other question was, how easy would it be to transfer my current Windows 10 from a 125gb SSD I have to the new 960 pro raid setup? and if anyone has any experience of using optane I would like to know if the above is possible with the SATA HDD and octane and a high speed but high capacity secondary drive.
  12. Thanks for the replies, I've updated the list as the 1080ti is the OC version and the RAM is 2x8gb, I have heard good things about the 960 pros in RAID and I wanted to try it out. One thing I was contemplating was using a 3tb 7200 SATA HDD with Intel optane for programs and files I don't need the 960 pro speeds for. Though I'm not sure if octane only works on the system drive. I even saw an online review where someone has done raid 0 on 3 intel octanes and used it for windows and it booted an ran super fast, I don't have enough M.2 slots for that though. Are there any other improvements anyone can think of?
  13. Hi, Linus tech tips forums! I have finally decided to upgrade my PC which mainly has 2010 components other than a GPU I upgraded it with but now it's feeling sluggish and I have some money to spend. I'm in the UK and my budget is £2000 (No idea what the exchange rate is with the pound falling every day it seems) this budget is only for the PC I have all the peripherals I need. I have never built a PC before but I have moved an old build to a newish case. I only use my PC to game and stream content. I have a 27" CFG70 Curved Gaming Monitor which is only 1080p but I also currently hook my PC up to my 4k TV for streaming and playing games with a controller. I have actually already purchased some upgrades and I am keeping my current Case, HDD & SSD but these are the only things that are staying. Here is what I have purchased so far (if anything is really bad I can still return them). CPU intel Core i7-8700K 3.70GHz LGA1151 Processor Cooling Corsair CW-9060027-WW Hydro Series H115i 280 mm Motherboard MSI Z370 SLI PLUS Socket LGA 1151 DDR4 ATX GPU ASUS ROG STRIX GTX1080TI 11GB Ram Corsair Vengeance Blue LED 16GB DDR4 3200 Memory Kit- CMU16GX4M2C3200C16B 2x8gb SSD 2x Samsung 960 PRO V-NAND M.2 SSD - 512GB in Raid 0 PSU Corsair CP-9020091-UK RM650x 650 W 80 Plus Gold Certified Modular 135 mm Any advice will be appreciated!
