  1. Sorry if this has been discussed on this site before, but I could not find anything here either. I have been trying to find any and all information on a possible new NVIDIA Shield Pro, but coming up short on any real answers. From what I have pieced together though. The shield was made kind of as an after thought after they made the chip for the Nintendo switch. They whipped up a streaming device and tacked on some software features, including the now infamous 4k upscale feature. Saw some success, ( I think) and then released a 2019 updated version with a few more features with the pro. So its now 2024 and no signs of another updated Nvidia Shield from what I've pieced together. Anyone here have some more knowledge on this topic and could shed some light on the current situation with a new updated shield pro? For a while now I have wanted to move away from my media PC to a dedicated streaming device, just for simplicity sake. The shield pro was always in my radar but once I did some research to consider pulling the trigger, it dawned on me this thing is 5 years old. I would love to have a shield pro with HDMI 2.1 so I can take advantage of my 4k 120hz Samsung QLED TV. Better ram and storage would be nice to, and heck while you're at it, throw in a 2.5 GBPs port in there too, lol. So if an updated shield pro is not in the cards, what are some good alternatives to the shield pro that would take advantage of my QLED? I am not opposed to the Apple TV, as I don't tend to sail the seas to watch my content, and shouldn't need access to sideloading apps. I know Apple is not a particular favorite brand in this community, but I don't pick sides with tech I use. I use a Macbook pro for work and windows for my gaming rig. So, if anyone has experience using both the shield pro and the apple tv equivalent, I'd love to hear about your experience and if the Apple Tv box would be a good option too. But ultimately, I would love to know if a new shield pro is possibly on the horizon!
  2. Here is a updated list with ryzen build went a little cheaper on CPU to get a nicer mobo. 3. I read somewhere that Nvidia recommends a 1050 with at least 4gb of vram to run 4k playback. Unless this is just Nvidia trying to upsell people
  4. This is going to be a NAS setup as well. I wanted to use this machine as a NAS Plex server and a 4k media pc for my main home theater. I have 3 other tvs elsewhere in the house plus our mobile devices. I wanted to be able to run the media pc and if someone streaming from somewhere else the NAS plex server wont bog down the media pc. So I wanted to be able deligate more cores to the plex server and use a dedicated GPU for the media PC. This seemed like I would be able to have more streams at once and use this pc for video streaming at the same time. If i was just making it a Plex server with a NAS I wouldn't care about the gpu and using Unraid.
  5. Trying to keep this around $1200 I was just using what fit in this mobo assuming it would handle Unraid. The 1050ti is for the media pc side of this rig running as vm. Wanting to have 4k at 10bit that GPU should be good. Anything lower than that it may not run 4k playback as well. If you know of a newer mobo that has dual ethernet and virtualization support and a good processor for handling 4-6 streams using plex. I'd love to hear it!
  6. That probably would be a bit overkill for my needs. Im sure I'll only be transcode 1 4k stream at a time and it'll outputing from this system. I just need to know if this asrock Mobo supports virtualization
  7. Would this build support Unraid? It has the case im wanting with the execption of the HDD hot swap bay that i'm gonna add. This has the processing i want to do up to about 6 streams at a time with plex server. Also should be able to output 4k pretty well. Just didn't know what requirements im looking for in the mother board to support unraid. 8. I do not mind used but I am avoiding getting a rack mount server style. I want to be able to have a decent looking tower next to my home theater. I noticed the Linus used a pre made Storage enclosure and put that into the Tower. I am looking at doing the similar tower and HDD enclosure he did in the video. Drive array: https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=9SIA62V5DB1568&ignorebbr=1&nm_mc=KNC-GoogleMKP-PC&cm_mmc=KNC-GoogleMKP-PC-_-pla-VirVentures-_-HL+-+Home+Accents-_-9SIA62V5DB1568&gclid=Cj0KCQiA_s7fBRDrARIsAGEvF8QbgXJ-gH5lSZumwemub7ifzxKedV3oXAt8L3_SuG99sOjvRBbh2tUaAlLbEALw_wcB Case: https://www.amazon.com/SilverStone-Computer-Aluminum-Unibody-TJ11-BW/dp/B0078ZZ2FI?th=1 This should allow the Hot swap drives Im looking for plus an extra slot for the BluRay drive. So I guess im just more curious at what CPU, Motherboard, and GPU would support Unraid and 4K video playback as a media PC
  9. Hello, I'm looking at getting into a plex server! I currently have a media pc that is just a old dell optiplex 990 with a core i5 vpro and I upgraded to a 128gb SSD and Nvidia GT710 for better video playback and general speed. I have considered just hooking up a separate NAS unit to it and have that PC run as the plex server. I would like to be able to do 4k playback at some point on this media pc once I upgrade my 65" tv to 4k and I don't that current PC can even output 4K with that 710 GPU I've seen Linus's gaming unraid Nas build and its really cool. That is probably a little overkill for what I'm looking to do. My goals are to have a hot swap 4-6 bay Hard drive array. Have redundancy. Hopefully all in one tower like in the gaming rig video. Be able to support 4-6 trans coded streams at the same time ( not all at 4K at the same time) Still be able to use as a 4K media PC for my main home theater. Has anyone made a build like this for themselves? If so could you share what you used. Or anyone know of where I can something pre built? I could build myself also. Looking to spend maybe only around 1000 to 1200 for everything with at least 2-3 drives to start of with. Need to also have a blu ray drive to ripping my physical media in to the NAS for plex. Thanks for your guys help in advance!
  10. Thanks guys! I wasn't aware hackintosh's were a no no lol. I may just have to wait for the new modular mac pros that i keep hearing about.
  11. Hey guys! I am a freelance videographer that does mostly wedding videos and some simple corporate promotional videos. I use FCPX for my editing and I really like using it. I know there are better editing programs out there like premiere and avid. I really don't have the time at the moment to try and learn a new editing platform. For what I do, FCPX works great. Any ways, to my main point. I use a 2016 mac book pro that doesn't have dedicated GPU. I am starting to really feel the lack of processing power that I need for some projects I'm doing with higher resolution video. I recently had to make a video for a friend that filmed a show choir event for his kid and it was over two hours long at 1080p/23.98 FPS. My rendering took over 4 hours and the transcoding was over 8 hours to complete! This was just brutal, especially since I have other projects I'm working. I want to build a better rig of my own that still allows me to use FCPX. Something like a hackintosh or even a windows system with the ability to run Macintosh in a virtual window or something. Would love a dual OS system though. So, in the future I can move to a better editing software. Would rather spend something that allows me to expand and upgrade rather dropping over 5 grand on a iMac pro. Is there prebuilt systems out there that are designed for this or should I just spec out my own gear and build the entire thing myself? I just wasn't sure if there were companies out there that can do a custom pc that is designed to run apple and windows for people like me who use certain apple programs and use windows. Any ideas or suggestions are greatly appreciated! Would love to hear from anyone that has a system like this already and what they use! Thanks, Phil
  12. Looking at buying a used Dell 980 with a i5-650. It has a low profile PCI 16x slot available and I was wondering what graphics card could at least do 4k video playback for simple video streaming and possibly a bluray disk drive if I decide to change that out also. I will definitely upgrade my ram and throw in a SSD for better performance on that end but I would at like to at least output to 4k and not spend a crazy amount of money. would any GC's work in the $80-$115 range for this? Thanks!
  13. I have to disagree with you on the part about audio. I have been to a demonstration from liberty AV solutions. Where they used a cheap cable, mid range, then a high end audio cables. All on the same Bower and Wilkins custom speakers. The cheap cable could not produce all the frequencies the mid or high end cables could. I even heard a difference in the mid to high range comparison also. Analog signals do need a better grade of cable to perform on the end device as expected. Analog has a lot more variables that can interfere with them. Signal to noise ration (SNR) electrical interference, cross talk. This goes for analog audio, RF, UHF, etc. Show me something that has credibility, that this isn't true.
  14. So, Linus has done a test video on this and found out what I originally thought! I guess if these companies are getting sales from this marketing then I guess what stopping them from conning people into wasting their money. Sometimes though, I wonder if this is something you can fight in court against these companies? They say it improves your image quality in their websites and other documentation. If this is actually tested by a government agency and they prove it makes no image improvements only your overall conductivity. It just seems like false advertising to me. I know thats everywhere and we cant stop everyone from doing it. Just a pet peeve at this point I guess.
