  1. Yes, it should work fine and with no loss in performance... https://www.pugetsystems.com/labs/articles/Impact-of-PCI-E-Speed-on-Gaming-Performance-518/
  2. My fiance's setup is in the same room as my machine... she doesn't even like my surround sound system with which i switch to headphones when she's in the room so i'm sure she'd have something to say if my machine sounded like a jet engine... I'd much rather have a happy girlfriend than 200Mhz higher clock speed...
  3. The fans themselves have a low, medium and high setting... I believe I left them all at the medium setting... but they don't ramp up unless i'm running like a benchmark software...
  4. Hey guys, I upgraded my machine to an i7-7700k w/ CM MasterLiquid 280 Pro, ASUS TUF Mark 1 Z270 MB & 32GB Trident Z RBG Ram. I've begun overclocking the 7700k, i was able to get mine up to 5Ghz stable @ 1.310 volts but Core 1 is reaching 90C so that's no go unless i decide to delid my chip. So I dialed it back to 4.8Ghz @ 1.270 volts. System appears stable, ran for about an hour gaming, ran Futuremark Fire Strike & Cinebench with no problems. Temps reported by HWiNFO never went above 78C which I'm happy with... Thoughts? Thanks AJ
  5. Thanks for the responses!!! What about the stability of the Ryzen platform? Anybody currently running Ryzen having stability issues being that it's a very new platform...
  6. Jayztwocents said he'd had a severely over-clocked processor and without going to back to video to get the accurate information, I believe he said it lasted something like 9 years and i believe he said it was an Intel CPU...
  7. I won't delid the chip... I don't trust myself enough to not destroy the chip in the process.
  8. Yea, I'll probably do some overclocking in the future. I'm currently running a 280mm AIO Watercooler because of the FX9590 temps. So even though Intel doesn't recommend it, it should keep things cool enough if and when I decide to... Also, the i7-7700k config I've got setup in Newegg is cheaper ($50 less) then the Ryzen config (Ryzen 7 1700K, Crosshair VI Hero, and Ram)... Note I picked the Crosshair VI Hero because it supports the AM3 socket cooler, and I don't have to worry about getting a replacement bracket. AJ
  9. Thank you for your responses... The main purpose of this machine has been gaming... But i don't really want to dedicate this machine into only gaming or only productivity or development. I do all three pretty much and like having options of going either way with any of my machines... AJ
  10. Hey everybody, I've decided to retire my aging FX9590 chip, ram & motherboard which i've had for a few years... I'm look at either a Ryzen 7 1700X or a i7-7700K Intel processor. My gut is telling me to go Intel. Either way, I'm going G.Skill TridentZ memory and an ASUS motherboard, either TUF Mark 1 or Crosshair VI Hero... Just wanted to get people's thoughts before I pull the trigger... AJ
  11. Oh, you didn't get it... when I said "did you mean 'Cannon Lake'?", I meant it as in next year, that's what Intel will be launching. Ah lol sorry... Now that I think about it... I did hear intel's next architecture was code named Cannon Lake... Frankly, it's not up to the mobo to improve performance. They might improve compatibility and perhaps overclocking capabilities, but raw performance is mostly set in stone with the architecture already. Sure, it might get a bit better over time, but don't expect miraculous gains that will match Ryzen with current (let alone future) Intel offerings, that's simply not happening. From the reviews I saw, i didn't really see Ryzen that far behind Intel tbh... but then again will have to see what happens through this year... I'm definitely not taking an Intel upgrade next year off the table just yet...
  12. I'm playing 144Hz right now at 1080p and the vast majority of my games such as Witcher 3 & Battlefield 1 which are played at Ultra settings are butter smooth.
  13. Thank you for your response... Cannon Lake or Ryzen or whatever was just released like 5 days ago... Ryzen NOT going well in games isn't AMD's fault... None of the motherboards appear to be fully optimized to take advantage of the new architecture which is why i'm giving motherboard manufacturers the opportunity to work on their BIOS's and lets see what happens in the through the end of this year... I agree to do a Ryzen upgrade right now when it just came out to be completely stupid.
  14. Hey guys, I'm looking to go to a 1440p 144Hz Gaming Monitor. Currently, i'm gaming at 1080p on a FX-9590 with a GTX-1070 FTW. I'm looking to do a Ryzen upgrade probably next year once I see how well the optimizations go with motherboard manufacturers... That being said, should I wait and get a 1440p monitor at the same time I do the upgrade, or should I be ok gaming 1440p with my current setup. I like having my settings cranked up like I do now on games I play including Witcher 3, Battlefield 1, etc. Thoughts? adTHANKSvance AJ
