  1. To Linus and Co.. Saw the great video idea that would be helpful for the community as a whole. Every so often spotlight new entries into the tech youtube sector, maybe sub 5k subs, and talk about how they are uniquely approaching the genre.
  2. Hey @LinusTech and team- Linus and the LTT team has a history of sponsorship from VPN tunnel type services (PIA for example), which is a really beneficial sponsor for alot of folks around the world. That said, I have never seen a video on how you would setup a whole-house VPN tunnel using a service like the ones LTT receives sponsorship for. I think a good video, maybe even sponsored with the following elements: - Walking us through the VPN setup on various OS(s), - Setting it up so that all traffic from the house routed through the VPN service - Explain what the different types of services are - Why someone may want one service type over another - How the VPN would effect latency and speed through a few benchmarks. Just Food for thought. P.S. Last year I wrote an "Open Letter (Linus Going Down)" article on the forms describing how the direction of the channel had changed so drastically that they were bound to start loosing some credibility in the community. I have to say, undoubtedly having nothing to do with my article, that the channel has come back to the LTT I loved way-back-when. It's been a very challenging year for the tech industry with no real changes in graphics cards, processors, etc.. so LTT has done a good job of finding interesting new things to post videos about. Keep up the good work!! (Maybe just a few less videos' about phones though)
  3. Hey guys, I would really love to see a video about dual monitor performance where you are playing on one monitor and watching a video on the other. I've built several pcs, currently gtx1070ti & 8600 with 16g ram and still get desynced audio on the videoes, stuttering, etc.. after 20 minutes of gameplay. Do I need a better cpu... a second graphics card... never seen a video from any utuber addressing this problem.. please help.
  4. Using my PC now i've never used more than 7gb ram so i figured that was an OK placeholder. That said... shoulda updated the parts picker.. actually caught a sale on 16gb 2400 GSkill ram for $150 went with that. And it's the price of ram right now that i kinda want bear min in hopes the price drops next year when i can pick up more.
  5. Hey guys (and gals)- So I’m building a Coffeelake computer, the first one I’ve built since my 2011 build with Sandybridge 2400. Being fairly new to the higher end world of computer parts I decided to take the trip down overclocking lane with a 8600k after seeing many reviews by all the big names showing the performance as top notch when overclocked. I’ve got the processor unopened right in front of me and I realized I really have no clue what overclocking really does on an Intel CPU. Don’t get me wrong.. I get that it increases the clock speed to almost 5ghz which results in more instructions per clock.. etc.. etc.. etc.. but what does that mean when I’m not running a benchmark and I’m just browsing the web and want to keep my pc for 5+ years? Here are some of the questions I’ve seen asked many times here on forums/comments but has never “really” been answered. I’m sure I’m not the only one with these questions and before I open this $300 investment I’ld love to better understand how this all really works. CPU - 1- If you OC, how does that “play” with turboboost 2.0 2- “ .. “ 3.0? 3- Do I need to turn off turboboost? 4- Will the CPU still reduce clock speed when I don’t need all the processing power (idle/ms word)? 5- If I’m using wall power (through a surge protector), will an overclocked CPU be as tolerant to power fluxes? 6- Will Intel continue to support a warranty if the chip is overclocked? 7- If the chip is capable of 5.0ghz with 1.4 volts, but that’s at the ragged edge; is 1.25 volts safer? 8- In general how do you “safely” overclock if you want to leave some extra room for error? What of the factors do you turn down? 9- If I’m not willing to blast my CPU at a full 5.0 ghz all day, and would be happy with 4.8ghz to play it safe but want my PC to last 7 years like my sandybridge and still be relevant should I just spend the extra 40 bux and do a 8700 with lower IPC? Memory – 1- If you aren’t willing to be at the bleeding edge of memory OC, should you just go with the 2400 speed memory? 2- Can you overclock memory that shows 2400 speed to let’s say 3000? 3- If you buy 3000 memory is it already overclocked (hardware level) or do you still need to do something to get the full 3000 speed out of it? 4- I’m assuming there is a law of diminishing returns (speed increase over performance) what is the sweet spot? 5- Is there any harm in overclocking memory beyond power usage? 6. I wanted to thank you for your reply, and you know how to sell content far better than I do. Last comment I'll make on the form is to simply refer you to my page 3 response to Luke as it may have been passed over. Thank you again for your work, I look forward to seeing how your channel evolves. "Good Evening- It was not the intent of my open letter to be a "stick in the mud", and to say that I don't like XX or YY therefore you shouldn't do it.. but to your point it's possible that i'm doing just that from other's perspective. I can certainly appreciate that some folks like various types of content. Over the last few weeks/months it seems that a trend has developed, and as a fan I wanted to share my opinion with the hope that I could influence future content to the benefit of the entire community and Linus Media Group. I believe that 90% of your content is top quality, and in most ways your group continues to provide quality content. I was trying to share an outsider's standpoint on consistency of your brand messaging. Additionally, Linus Media Group (LMG) stands in a unique position to influence the industry as a whole. Not just for enthusiasts, but for working professionals who make day-to-day decisions about how to run their IT shops. As an example: We were looking at upgrading the laptops for one of our divisions and LMG's videos allowed me to know that the next generation of Intel mobile processors would be a benefit for our team to include/wait for. There are a great many unresolved technical problems that effect professionals, causal non-techies, and enthusiasts that LMG has an opportunity to test and address thus informing the community as a whole while providing entertaining content. My biggest concern for LMG, which i was trying to express, is the protection of your brand image, and where you position yourselves in the market. As noted above there are many problems that your corp can assist the public with, but if the brand doesn't protect it's image it becomes irrelevant to the people who can influence purchasing decisions (professionals), and becomes only entertainment. This would result in an inability to convey meaningful content when you want to do so. I'm a huge LMG brand ambassador and will continue to be so for years to come. I'm envious of the folks who can decide what content gets created and delivered to the public and just want to play my small part in the process. If this attempt at communication has done nothing else perhaps I see LMG as a corporation with a brand to protect and an important message to convey, while LMG themselves may prefer to be seen as entertainment first and educational as a secondary objective. There's nothing wrong with that.. just seems like the messaging has changed over the years and I would hate for you to lose your core audience in the process of evolving."
  7. To respond to this comment and many other's like it - Yes I am a fan. No I don't have a lot of cash, I have 2 kids and live paycheck to paycheck like most of you. If i lost my job tomorrow, my lifestyle and ability to pay bills would be immediately effected. I, like every one of you, get's paid for their intellectual contribution towards the company you work for. I'm not sitting on a pile of cash, obviously, and would not turn down the opportunity for a consulting opportunity where i could contribute towards the voice of the generation. In regards to the gear. If you read my ask, it was not "hey give me free stuff....", it was a gentle ask for a fair price on a rig i need to update in the near future. If anyone else has equipment they want to sell at a fair price, feel free to PM me.

  9. Thank you. If there are other ideas on how this message can be spread across the community feel free to contribute. I have looked at many of your comments and my thoughts here mimic a vocal majority of your own.
  10. The following is an open letter to Linus Media Group ================================================================ Good Afternoon Linus- As a father of two in his mid 30’s, one who shares a passion about computer performance, an IT professional of 15 years, and an avid subscriber of your channel for the last several years I would like to offer some constructive criticism about your channel in the last several months. Don’t get me wrong I love your sense of humor and your realistic outlook on life and tech, but I’m going to list a few recent examples below of where all this went sideways… - 1920 x 1080 Meme PC: This was just a trolling video right? - How many PCIe Extensions: You never tested latency, which is the main concern of extending the signal length; therefore missing the value of the content. - $140,000 on 8k Camera: The extra step to compare this solution to others on the market would have then how much longer? - Anti-RGB PC: Again, a troll build? It seemed to me that you were just intentionally wasting valuable PC parts that many of your watchers could only dream to own. - Thumbnails: Just look at your thumbnails and captions recently.. is the objective to be a meme of yourself, to be the Jester of the industry, or to be a serious technology reviewer in an entertaining way. Do these thumbnails represent your “brand”? I would like to offer up some ideas from a layman’s perspective since in your recent WAN show; it sounded like you were out of “good” ideas. - Budget Build-Outs: Taking the concept of Scrapyard Wars; give MSI/Gigabyte/etc.. a budget and tell them to either send out a rep or send you parts that meet that budget. Compare the solutions they provide. This can be done quarterly at different budgets. - Guest Hosts: There are a lot of very specialized areas of the industry. Bring in some experts from the various niche groups to show off a small sample of their work and how they do a portion of their “art”. (Think case designers/Custom water loops) - Wired vs Wireless vs 4g: Technology is always evolving and it seems like wireless technologies are almost matching the speed and latency of a decent wired connection. Compare various routers to wired (100/1000Mbps) connections. - WiFi Saturation: Many of our homes have more wireless connections than we realize. Compare many common wireless routers and identify when each router starts to see latency issues with 5/10/15 connections. The connections should also be playing games/watching youtube/Netflix much like in our homes. - Scrapyard Quickies: If you look back at your history of Scrapyard Wars, you will note that Episode 1 usually has more views than subsequent episodes. Although this might seem counterintuitive to fans like me, your audience speaks volumes. As I’m sure your time is hard to come by... I would start using your other staff as the participants against each other. They should order the parts from Amazon (with links to your affiliate of course) and can include used parts from amazon. This cuts down the travel/filming/editing time associated with the project, and ultimately a quick buildout, benchmark, and vote by you and Luke. 45 minute episodes monthly would keep the fans happy. If you find any of this helpful, possibly even resulting in video production; I request no direct compensation. I’m rocking a Sandy Bridge 2500k and an Radeon 7700 on my “main” rig, so perhaps a fair deal on any last gen parts you need to clear out would be helpful but not expected. There are many, many, many more ideas that I have but wanted to keep this fairly brief. If you find these ideas more than just a little helpful and you would like to discuss them in more detail I can make myself available for a conference call and have an LLC that would allow me to be a remote consultant if you would like.
