IC_Raptor - Beowulf's Achievements

  1. lol, that's why I put a R5 5600, don't think I'll need much more than that, but currently since I'm running an FX8350 and a RX580 8GB, I'm feeling the frames now. Good to know it'll be a more realistic option buying now/soon rather than when AM5 comes out as for gaming, currently I'm on a 21" 1080p60 display, going to a 27" is going to look astronomically better (even at 1080p). 1440p though is just going to be a good upgrade until I want to be ready for 4k
  2. Budget (including currency): $3000 if buying over MSRP, realistically $2000 Country: USA Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: gaming, better performance in games like RDR2 and enough grunt to play newer games. Most likely emulate as well Other details (existing parts lists, whether any peripherals are needed, what you're upgrading from, when you're going to buy, what resolution and refresh rate you want to play at, etc): http://pcpartpicker.com/list/jhB2Vw WD red drives are going to be used for my current computer to be repurposed as a NAS, which can be ignored for the time being, the WD black is going to be used as bulk storage (that gets backed up to the NAS) Running Linux, any suggestions on better parts compatibility would be greatly appreciated (such as using a similar mobo without wifi and using a specific wifi dongle that's known to work out of the box) Also, I've used enough RAM that 32GB makes a bit more sense for me
  3. I just searched for "noctua low profile am4" and got a ton of results, Noctua is great at what they do and is highly recommended overall, however if you don't want to go with noctua, you can do a search for "low profile am4 cooler" and get results, here are a couple links I've already found: Noctua and here's one from Cooler Master.
  4. Not sure if it's intended, but I just searched "LinusTechTips" into the google podcasts app on a whim and saw the WAN Show available, didn't know about it, but I wonder, are the shows uploaded to the app by LMG or is it auto-magical stuff google is doing? sorry if this doesn't belong here
  5. @akialwayz -- I'm already dual booted (W10P + Ubuntu Studio), I've just had the problem forever* and would like a solution once I decommission this rig to be a freenas rig * okay, I've only had the computer for about 4 years
  6. I'm having trouble booting into my USB on this specific board, I've used the same USB on my older laptop and it just works, can someone give me some options? MB: Gigabyte GA-78LMT-USB3 REV 5.0 USB: SanDisk Ultra (128gb USB3.0)
  7. In a choir where we have a projector and the priest accepted to letting us put a projector on the ceiling and the tl;dr is that we need a brighter projector than the one we got We have an "Epson PowerLite 1222" quite literally need something that's brighter (thinking 3500 lumens) and can be mounted on a ceiling. my main question is, should I consider staying with epson, or consider going with another brand?
  8. I got one of those free promotions for "100 GB of google drive for 2 years" and it's almost expired after the allotted time I was given, considering I'd rather use a NAS with a 1TB HDD as a cloud service. I had considered the "MyCloud" from WD and the fact that my dad also wants to use more storage for cloud (i.e. drive/dropbox) it would be a simpler solution. Glad to get feedback.
  9. Looking into a personal cloud (like dropbox or google drive) and am looking into all the different hardware used such as WD's lineup for the "My Cloud" -- is there a difference between a NAS and a Personal Cloud? Thanks for even looking at this. ~Raptor o7
