  1. @Firethorne Thanks for the tip. That is a very good point. I have no idea when the CU was installed before so maybe that is the issue. But as write this my PC does work again. I changed the PSU to my old one which was in the old case. So far the system is running Prime95, Firefox and GForce Expierience at the same time with no freezing. Could the PSU be the issue?? It is a brand new one but maybe I was unluck? I will further test the system to see if it is realy fine or is just having a good day.
  2. Hi all I have a huge issue. I was running my system (see below) in an old case and upgraded to a newer one incl. new fans (2 intake, 2 outtake). I did install everything in the new case. I tried to Overclock the CPU to 3.5Ghz but could not get it to work. However, since then I have a huge freezing issue. My system is freezing at completely random times. Sometimes I cannot boot and it is freezing immediately. 2 days ago, I was able to play Overwatch and the PC was running fine for 4h. Yesterday same problem, freezing in different states. My System: AMD Phenom II X1090T Scythe Mugen 3 cooler ASRock Extreme 3 (latest BIOS 1.60) 8GB Corsair Corsair Vengeance LPX DDR3 1600Mhz Zotac GTX1070 AMP extreme Samsung 850 EVO with 120GB Be quiet! Pure Power 10 CM 600W The following solutions I tried but none of them did help or showed any errors: Clean new install of Win 10 CU on my SSD, incl. new drivers for the basic needs (GPU, MoBo, SSD, Keyboard) Power saving options in the BIOS and Windows disabled Checked RAM for defects but no errors detected, also did try to use only one stick Unplug all HDD and USB devices except SSD Reset the Virtual Memory to a higher value (2000-8000MB) Did run Disk Check on all drives Did run System File checker Did reapply new thermal paste because mine was +5 years old Did vary the RAM speed in the BIOS from 866 till 1600 (max of my RAM) I have no onboard GPU so I cannot check if the GPU is the problem. But the GPU worked before I changed cases. Because I tried to OC I have the feeling that its related to CPU or Motherboard. In the 4h period in which my system was running, I used Prime95 to check if my CPU has an issue but did work fine for 30min. Please HELP!! My only idea at this point is buy a new CPU/MoBo/RAM combo.
  3. @xsimplyjosh made a very good explanation on the monitor side. To you question if the 1070 would be enough, I think yes. My personal experience is that my 1070 is perfectly fine to play at 1440p with a 144Hz monitor. I have the AOC AG271QG with IPS panel, G-Sync and I can run all games with high settings at 60+ FPS. I some very GPU heavy games you will drop below that, as you see in some reviews but I found that is not a problem. If you want more than 120+FPS in a shooter than you may need to lower the settings. I my case my CPU is a little too weak to take full advantage of the high FPS but in Overwatch I get 100+FPS. This could be just my personal problem, until I upgrade the CPU. If you have a good CPU that can handle the FPS the 1070 should be fine. As xsimplyjosh said you will have the monitor longer than the GPU and investing in a 27" with 1440p with high frame rate is a good choice.
  4. UPDATE: As suggested, I did monitor my CPU temperatures. I did run Prime95 to stress my CPU and at the same time ran MSI Afterburner GPU Stresstest to get also the hot air from my GPU. I got my CPU up to 60.5°C after 45min of this. It was still running at 100% without throttle. I need to mention that I did remove the OC before I did this test to get “lowest” temperatures for my CPU. Therefore, as around 60°C is the temperature where it could start to throttle I guess my problem is the CPU temp. I did set my case fans to 100% and got the temperatures down to app. 55°C. With those settings, I played for >1h without the mentioned drops to 30-50FPS. Of course, I got lower overall FPS (80-90) but I can live with that until I upgrade my CPU. Thanks all for the help. As always quick and helpful people around here. Keep it up!
  5. Thanks all for the quick help! I will see what my temps I am getting. If the CPU gets to hot I will try to reapply thermal past first and if that does not work consider buying a new cooler. Maybe with an upgrade to Ryzen in mind for the future. @mok Thanks for your share of CPU info. I could not get my CPU past 3.5Ghz it was not running stable. Maybe my chip wants to retire soon.
  6. I also had no issues at 1080p put since I upgraded to a 1070 and a 1440p monitor I have some issues. Unfortunately my budget is to small now for a new CPU with MoBo and RAM.
  7. I use the Scythe Mugen 3. I put all parts in a new case and cleaned everything incl. the fins of the cooler. I am running the CPU with an OC to 3.4Ghz. Should I also remove that? I will try to monitor temps of the CPU this evening. At what Temp should the CPU throttle?
  8. My CPU is installed for 5 year now. Should I replace the thermal paste?
  9. Hi all I have a problem that my FPS drops after 20-30min of playing Overwatch. I get 120-150FPS in game until it drops to 30-50 FPS. According to MSI Afterburner, my CPU is constantly at 80-100% but it is an old AMD Phenom II 1090t so that I see as "normal" I also upgraded to a Zotac GTX 1070 AMP extreme to play at 1440p on a 144Hz monitor. GPU is running good, I did some benchmarking and no problem there on the FPS/Temp side. I also turned of power saving mode in the BIOS. I cannot see my CPU Temps in MSI Afterburner, could it be that it is getting to hot? Thermal Throttle maybe? Here some more specs: AMD Phenom II 1090t Zotac GTX 1070 AMP extreme Mobo: ASRock Extreme 3 8GB of DDR3 RAM at 1333Mhz from Corsair 120GB SSD Samsung EVO for Win10 and Overwatch PSU BeQuiet Pure Power 10 600W Any thoughts on this?
  10. Thank you for the information, I had no idea how this stuff works. I am confident now with buying a new GPU, my CPU served we very well the past 6-7 years so maybe it will keep me happy a little longer.
  11. Thank you all for the help. I think I will buy the GPU and monitor and see what I can get. Maybe Overclocking will help the grandpa CPU to handle some more FPS. J I will most likely upgrade to a Ryzen 5 1600 as soon as I can effort it.
  12. Thanks for the replies. I want to have a 27” monitor, which should be the sweet-spot size for 1440p (as far as I can tell). For this a 1070 should be enough acc. to other post at LTT. Maybe I can make my point a little bit more understandable. I was just wondering if I also NEED to upgrade my CPU to play at 1440p? With lower settings and playable 60FPS or more, I can live (until I saved the money for upgrading). However, if I cannot achieve this with my Phenom II 1090t CPU then there is no point to buy anything until I also have the money to upgrade the CPU.
  13. I guys I have a question. I would like to play Overwatch at 1440p and 144Hrz. Will my old AMD Phenom 1090T be able to run it at low settings? At 1080p the FPS shows above 150FPS but I assume my R9 280x is the bottleneck (acc. MSI Afterburner it is running close to 100%). I will buy a GTX 1070, which should be fine for 1440p. But with the CPU I am not sure. What do you think? At this point, I have no money for a CPU upgrade.
