  1. Do you have any recommendations for possible products?
  2. Hi yall, I am trying to help a friend get an internet connection from a neighbor since the ISP refuses to do a run to his house. The closest home that would be willing to share their internet connection is about 1500ft away, and I'm trying to figue out what the best way to accomplish this would be. I already looked into MOCA adapters, but it seems that the best those would do is 300ft. Right now I'm looking into fiber but I just wonder what the best solution would be. Thanks!
  3. Awesome! I'll give it a read, thank you!
  4. I've been putting this off for a while, but my old NAS at home is quite old and I feel like I need something newer. I have so far picked out some parts, but I'm not sure that they are going to be the most appropriate, so I need some recommendations. (Mostly gonna use for storing files but also want it for general purpose) Also, if I have to, I'll spend some money, but trying to keep it on a budget (relatively). Here is what I've been thinking about: RAID (either 5 or 6) (open to suggestions) with either 4 or 6 drives. Set up an SSD cache to make up for the slow write speeds. Separate drive for boot and server software Most likely gonna use Ubuntu Server since it is what I've been using for the past 3 years. Eventually set-up 10 Gbps with SFP+ fiber adapters. Parts that I've considered: HDD's: Seagate IronWolf SSD: Samsung 970 evo Raid Card: No idea (Is it better to get a mother board with a lot of SATA ports or a RAID card?) Network Card: Not too sure either Computer: (I was thinking about a Ryzen build mostly because of all those PCI-e lanes, and that ECC support)(maybe first gen Threadripper since they've gone down in price) Network Switch: MikroTik CRS305-1G-4S+IN On the software side: I'm a newbie to RAID, so I need some reading material (forum posts, articles, videos, etc) before attempting it myself. I also need some info on setting different drives for different partitions. Current Setup: Old Dell Optiplex 390, Intel Core i5-2400, 4GB RAM, 4TB HDD (No RAID), 4x Gbps NIC Netgear JGS524 24-port Gigabit Network Switch
  5. I think it's done, we redid the partitions on the SSD and apparently it's working for now, hopefully it stays like that.
  6. It's all Asus, but i think we just figured it out. Redid all partitions on the SSD, it's now running, hopefully it stays like that. I'll keep updating if anything goes wrong.
  7. So, several weeks ago a friend and me started a threadripper build, that from the beginning started giving us trouble. First time trying to put everything together outside of the box, like everyone always recommends, didn't work, and we kept on getting post error code 00. We thought it was the RAM or the processor, but it ended-up being a faulty motherboard. Got a replacement and everything, and we were able to get a post, install operating system and drivers. But now OS keeps on crashing. These are the errors that keep on popping-up: Windows failed to start. A recent hardware of software change... (Black screen) Recovery: Your PC/Device needs to be repaired (file: \Windows\system32\drivers\Wdf010000.sys) (Error code: 0xc0000221) Stop code: DPC WATCHDOG VIOLATION This is getting frustrating and we have tried everything that we can, also given that the Ryzen platform is fairly new there is not a lot of information out there of what could be happening. Any help will be appreciated, thank you all on advance.
  8. Threadripper build not posting, showing error code 00 next to a processor shape on the LED screen on-board. Tried switching RAM on every slot, reset button, switched graphics card and different pci-e slots, rebuilt whole thing, still not working. Any ideas, please let me know.
