  1. Oh i see, well i had a card lying around so thought i might use that for physx. So there is no need to wait for PCIE 4.0 or 5.0 within 3-5 yrs range ?
  2. Hi guys, So i am building a new PC and i was thinking of going with threadripper and asus xe motherboard with it. I have a plan of getting the 1180 Ti's when they come out in August or september and i have one 1080ti that i want to use as a dedicated physx processor. I wanted to know should i wait for PCI-e 4.0 because of the additional BW. I did read a few posts here that say no need to wait since PCI 3.0 is not even maxed out yet, but some of them said that only true for single cards and i couldn't really find much info for a total of 3 cards, 2 in sli and one for physx. Any insight to this would be really helpful guys!
  3. About 1 to 2 cores. I will, of course, pause the others if i need to reallocate resources for a particular VM like reduce them to 1 core or something. 22 Cores seem really high
  4. Don't have much knowledge on server grade processors. Don't you think it's a little overkill?
  5. Meh, i'm not much into RGB. I will definitely do a custom loop. It's work sponsored, so hence the money
  6. Nice one, i want to cheap out on the additional 2 monitors and go with PG27UQ when it comes out.
  7. Very true. I will stick with the Poseidon card. Could someone give me advice on getting the ASUS PG27 UQ, HDR 4k 144HZ monitor. I believe my single card won't be able to bring it true performance out. Would anyone suggest other monitors please.
  8. I like it. Unless you think i need 2 GFX's and that too POSEIDON over STRIX i would go with one and put that money into the case and 3 monitors i need.
  9. I do like this, i'm just a little skeptical about the Ripjaws vs Trident RAM. I'll look at some of the reviews for both. Would definitely go for a better visible case than the 900D.
  10. Well i don't want to spend all 8K on it. I needed a programmers suggestion on the different components like monitors etc and a gamers perspective on the other hardware. I read a lot of reviews of the components and i also read people saying it's not worth going overboard on different parts as well. So im trying to find a good harmonic and trying to get the best of both worlds.
  11. https://pcpartpicker.com/list/JvZFVY Ignore the CPU cooler, just a place holder else the thing screams.
  12. yea i know right lol. I looked at the non RGB one's a few bucks lesser, thought might as well get one's with a few colors on it.
  13. Hi guys, long time fan of linus, but this is the first time i'm posting cause i need some advice. So from the title, i got $8000 for a new rig. I am a gaming guy, hardcore, but I'm not soooo much into RGB cause mainly I feel they just add the ability of RGB and charge a premium for stuff. That being said, i do like a little bit of flare in my system. So what is this going to be used for? This is mainly going to be used for gaming AND programming (My Job) AND Ethical Hacking (also my job). I don't edit videos nor would i ever intend to so this build is not for that. Let me explain what i mean by each. Gaming: Mostly First Person, i just like story mode most of the times, but i do like online multiplayer like The division and probably Destiny 2. No RPG, not interested, don't have the time. Programming: Now this is crucial, i will have more than a few editors open, a local server running, apache, MySQL, MongoDB, PHP, Java, Go, Rust running for different stuff. Ethical Hacking: I will get a gigabit connection (should not be a problem). The reason why i have this is that i will running a few VM's at least (2-3 VM's having at least 2 cores each and 2 GB ram.). My Preferences: I will have 3 OS'. Windows (Mainly for Gaming), Linux (For lot of stuff), MacOS (my job kinda needs it). I really want Windows on separate SSD and Linux, MacOs on another. I will need a large 10 TB storage as well. Note: If having MacOS trouble's the boot, then lets forget about it for now. My Current List: Intel - Core i9-7900X 3.3GHz 10-Core Processor Asus - STRIX X299-E GAMING ATX LGA2066 Motherboard G.Skill - Trident Z RGB 64GB (4 x 16GB) DDR4-3600 Memory (The non-RGB version i think was like 10 bucks lesser so thought might as well. Unless i was looking at something else.) Samsung - 960 EVO 500GB M.2-2280 Solid State Drive x 2 ( i know with this motherboard i need to get an m.2 stand as well for the second one) Seagate - BarraCuda Pro 10TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive (Raw storage.) Asus - GeForce GTX 1080 Ti 11GB STRIX GAMING Video Card Corsair - 860W 80+ Platinum Certified Fully-Modular ATX Power Supply (Should be enough I think) Corsair - K95 RGB PLATINUM Wired Gaming Keyboard SteelSeries - Rival 700 Wired Optical Mouse 3x Monitors ( a programmers setup) 1 ASUS PG27UQ (when it comes out) (Center Placement, for gaming and having my editor open) 2 x Dell Monitors for just good clarity. I don't need anything special with them (left and Right Placement) Processor and GPU will be water cooled. Mostly EK blocks. I need a good looking case. Current Contenders are Corsair - 900D ATX Full Tower Case (This will need a lot of work to make it look good) Lian LI PC Desk, but i don't like the glaring color that would come from the desk cause it'll directly hit my eyes and i would end up covering which defeats the whole purpose. (need more suggestions, something transparent.) This PC will be running for days together before a shutdown so please keep that in mind when suggesting case and cooling equipment. Please know that NONE of these components i have, and they all can be changed. I will be getting this in Jan or Feb of 2018. Reason for the advance thinking is to get some stuff in the different offers coming up for the holidays. I know this is a lot to ask and i know this might end up being a really long discussion but i am sooooo tired of all the different websites 'claiming' a certain equipment is best that now i just look for personal experiences more than their claim. Finally Thanks for reading this long requirement and i hope i get some decent advice. ** HAIL Linus **
