  1. uninstalled and reinstalled -- no dice. Recover windows, perhaps?
  2. It split the damage with the PSU. GPU still works, same for the RAM, CPU, and M.2’s. The machine is back, up, and running. Benchmarking tomorrow. Thanks!
  3. So I RE-built this computer after borking it realllll good. Windows 10 was already on the m.2, and I'm using the same model mobo... Z370-E So just plug the m.2 in and go! Well, not quite. Everything seems to be working properly except wifi and lan. Did I skip over something in bios? Right now, the IP address is wayyyyyy off. Everything looks good to go in device manager. What's a guy to do?
  4. Thinking about this quote made me laugh out loud on my way to work today. I think I'm thru most of the stages of grief. Thanks for this.
  5. That's great! My favorite definition of "modular" Computers. composed of software or hardware modules that can be altered or replaced without affecting the remainder of the system. - Dictionary.com
  6. I examined the motherboard pretty closely, no immediate signs of the damage -- but I know it's there. GPU -- yeah 'm braced for that one. I really don't want it to be. Also, the PSU looks pretty dead to me too -- I guess that goes without saying. I was troubleshooting this thing in my dreams last night, if you could believe it
  7. I wish I knew exactly where that smoke came from -- couldn't find the source upon inspection. RMA -- maybe... a lot of moving parts, so to speak.
  8. Thanks -- what a way to learn a lesson! I'll let you know what happens when the new board comes in tomorrow.
  9. So you’re saying the RAM has a chance? Lol I’m soooo screwed. I thought modular meant standardized. Feels like a marketing defect at the very least. I know I’m dumb. Hail corporate.
  10. Ok yeah. My build, my bad — any insights on the damage or just esoteric articles?
  11. Fingers crossed. I’ll let you know. I’ll check the components before I get a replacement. Making a sacrifice to the computer gods tonight. Yeah blinking blue and nothing is getting power. Cables were Corsair, PSU was Thermaltake. I swear this should’ve worked — everything was connected the right way — triple checked. Modular ATX cables “Premium” from Corsair.
  12. My system was stable. z370e w/ 750w modular PSU. 1 GPU. Shutdown, and unplugged -- waited -- and switched out the cables for Corsair's premium cables and SNAP, CRACKLE, POP! Well, it was just a POP... somewhere over the I/O, and little smoke too. The mobo was flashing blue before I disconnected the power. Did I lose all -- GPU, RAM, M.2's and CPU or did the Mobo take the brunt of the damage?
  13. Ok, folks -- I gave up on the install of Ubuntu... as a base system. I caved and installed Windows 10 (on 1 m.2) and installed/updated all the right drivers -- systems is a UFO on userbenchmark, except gaming, but I don't really game enough to justify a 1070 or 1080 sooo there's that. I installed Ubuntu 17.10 on the other m.2 and boot right into Linux. It's how do you say, very nice. I know there are other [more elegant] solutions, but I'm kind of glad I implemented this one because I was going to cave and buy windows eventually, better sooner rather than later I guess. Thanks for the support!
  14. Last I checked it was 17.* — I left the office buut I’m probably going back tonight. I also tried 16.* earlier in the day. I haven’t tried 14 yet. Sounds good to me! Probably. Will try first thing, thx! Last install try was 17... not working—at all. Def rolling back All the Ubuntu versions, minus 14, which is next! other specs: i7 8th Gen K Z370 750W Modular 16 GB DDR4
  15. It’s a driver thing. I know that. Maybe a header thing or a kernel thing. Where did I go wrong? this is mostly just venting no need to reply — but feel free
  16. Looking for a good headset for coworkers at an office that does all of it's business over VOIP. We were using Plantronics Gamecom 818 -- a lot of dongle failure there -- the office is moving on. I liked the gaming theme, but not a deal breaker. What say you, trusty LTT forum?
  17. write a python script to scrape websites for sales leads and sell those leads to businesses.
  18. That's actually helpful -- yeah I mean, to me that means @WereCatf's probably right and the flash drive is fubar
  19. Play around in Disk Management, just right click and select stuff until it works again. JK but there might be some more useful info in Disk Management?
  20. Guy in my office got the Bose QC35 and looooves them. I tried them on -- they're pretty effective.
  21. Morning fellas and ladies, Have a 1050 ti baking itself inside a Dell 7567 -- starting to peruse external cooling solutions. Amazon's best selling cooling pads, are a starting point for me since I know very little about external cooling https://www.amazon.com/gp/bestsellers/electronics/2243862011/ref=zg_b_bs_2243862011_1. Vents are on the bottom and back. Eager to hear suggestions!
