  1. Upgrading my current system that's got an i7 3770 in it, it tends to bottleneck my GTX 1080 at 1440p and I'm stuck between the i5 and i7. My target is 144hz 1440p, so I'm unsure whether the roughly ~$160 extra is worth it. Thanks for any advice! *To clarify* Yes this build is exclusively gaming
  2. Awesome, I'll go with that then, thanks for all the help!
  3. Think I'm gonna go with the blue yeti, just cause it's on such a huge sale, I can get it for $120 and maybe a Sennheiser HD 599 that's on sale on amazon right now for $270 CAD? It's the top rated on like every site I've checked, plus it's in the budget and open back. I think I preferred open back vs closed, since these 373D's I have now are pretty good.
  4. Probably more of a quiet environment, and I'm getting these for gaming, so would I want more bass, generally? Yeah, I was thinking of getting a blue yeti, I can get it on a huge sale right now. Ok so, what do some other people recommend out of that pool of headsets, sennheiser, AKG or Audio Technica? Say $130 for the blue yeti, then like $300 max for a headset of those types. Also, how are they for gaming, that's my biggest concern. Is there a way to have them simulate virtual surround, or does that not really matter?
  5. Yes, my budget is probably around $400. If I decide on a headset with no external mic, probably more $300. ***EDIT*** After a bit of research, what is the use of an amp for the headphones, and also what do people think about the Antlion ModMic 5.0?
  6. So I've been really unlucky with "gaming headsets", razer tiamat 7.1 fell apart, I had 2 steel series siberias have the earcups fail, and now my sennheiser 373D has suddenly had the mic crap out. Is it worth while getting a great pair of "non-gaming" headphones (without the gimmicky flashy stuff that inflates the price) and getting a separate microphone? If not, does anyone know any good headsets with a microphone that aren't as flimsy as some of the ones I've had (mind you, I may have just been super unlucky lol). My only concern is for the gaming aspects, whether the virtual surround will be missed or not. Any advice is greatly appreciated!
  7. Never even thought of this! Yes, I'll just get the 140mm fans and the X62. Thanks for the quick replies!
  8. So I'm wondering what size of a liquid cooler to buy, looking between the NZXT X52 and X62? The thing is, I'm also changing the fans (Corsair LL series) and all in all the difference is $50 on the nose. I'm getting the fans early and I can get 3 140mm fans in a 2 pack and 1 pack for $180, OR a 3 pack of 120mm fans for $150. With tax and counting the extra $20 for the X62 over the X52 that's the $50 difference. Basically, is it worth the extra price? My case is a Corsair 750D so size is not an issue, but are there any benefits of a 280mm rad over 240mm other than like a few degrees celsius? Thanks for any advice!
  9. Hey guys, not sure how, but I upped the fan curve to keep the card cooler, upped the voltage in the EVGA app by 40% (the slider on the side), and got a stable 75mhz core clock and 800mhz memory clock boost. Amounts to nearly 7-10 frames in game.
  10. Well, thanks for helping, at least I know. Good thing the 1080 is already a little much for what I need (1440p 60hz) but I got it at a good deal, so I can live without overclocking. Thanks again for the help everyone!
  11. So am I stuck, or is there a way to raise the voltage cap a little, or will it not be stable?
  12. Ah, it says VRel. A voltage issue? Max voltage was 1.05V, also while the program is running with the OC in effect, there is some lag on the system as well, like typing, the characters will have a second delay or so before appearing on screen.
  13. I maxed out the power slider to 120% and the temp limit maxes at 91 celsius. The fan seems very good, at load the card barely pushes mid 70s. As for the GPU boost, I had a 1060 before and I found it easier to just boost the core clock etc. as I've done now, I'll just stick with that for now lol Not sure where that is...? That screenshot is all I saw in GPUZ, is that it? EVGA precision X, newest version. The program stops working, the heaven benchmark, not the OC software, but only does so when I increase the overclock. There's also flickering, like a black screen then back to the benchmark, then eventually the program will crash. At default clock it runs fine.
  14. So I just got an EVGA GTX 1080 SC and literally it will not overclock even 20 mhz on the core clock. I'm using the DX11 Heaven Benchmark and it keeps crashing. I've got no power issues, I have a 750w evga power supply etc. Card shouldn't be thermal throttling, it hits like 70 degrees max with the fans at 75%. Is there something I'm not doing right? I am not knowledgeable really at all about overclocking, so any advice is greatly appreciated!
  15. Yeah, but when my refresh rate is 60hz, vsync locks my games at 60fps. So if my refresh rate is 144hz, it would lock them at 144fps (if I got there with my GPU). Why then when my monitor is at 74hz is it still locking my games at 60fps. That's my question, cause otherwise what is the point of overclocking if my games still run at 60fps with Vsync on? I would not be utilizing the boosted refresh rate.
