Hey Shura, Yeah as i said i've heard the Ryzen seems to perform better with faster ram apparently the increase is lesser beyond 3000mhz, so i figured i would cap it at that and not jump up any higher, and i think £30 is okay for that. Yeah i doubt i will ever SLI just from issue when it comes to what i'm mainly using the system for and from what i know of the AMD cards there can be issues with 3d software (to be fair i've had my fair share of issues with nvidia cards too when they've pushed updates through and having to roll back to get functionality back) specifically with the game dev related stuff, Nvidia cards seem to be more reliable. Did look into the Vega there though, looks interesting, I think if I was building for purely gaming it would be something i'd consider. Thanks for the idea though

Hey Seon, to be honest if the 1700 has a high chance of getting up to 3.8GHz I'd be pretty happy with that, so i think i'll just stick with the 1700. Thanks for the link though, really helpful. And hello Lee, that is possibly just me being slightly self indulgent as it's my first build and just want something that looks a bit nicer with the windowed case

Ah thank you, as i said it was mentioned by Linus in his ryzen overclock video, but if that's the case i may cut that back down to the 1700.

I've had a little bit of a play around and also rewatched the Linus video on overclocking the Ryzen 7 series, and apparently the 1700x will overclock better than the 1700. Hello, So i'm looking to do a first time build, and just looking for some advice on what i've picked out and if certain parts are worth it for what i intend on doing. I'm in the UK, price wise i'd like to keep it max £2000, can go slightly over, but currently the build is coming in at just under £2000. The system will mainly be used for 3D artwork so, Maya/Max/Modo, Zbrush, Unreal/Unity, Substance Painter/Designer, Photoshop etc. It will get used for gaming every now and again but i doubt i'll be looking to play in 4k or anything like that, not anytime soon anyway. The reason for the 1080ti is due to Substance relying on graphics memory, so the more the better. I have windows 10 on my current machine so i haven't included that in my build, i need to double check i can transfer it over. Link to the build - https://uk.pcpartpicker.com/list/2GgXcc I've had mentioned to me i might be better off going for faster RAM as Ryzen will benefit from that, was looking at possibly moving up to Corsair Vengeance (2x16gb) 3000mhz, which will only add about £30 to the overall price. I don't think i intend on doing much overclocking with it, outside of the CPU as it seems agreed that it makes more sense to go for the Ryzen 7 1700 and then overclock that over going for the 1700x or 1800x. (Correct me if i'm wrong on that one). Also wondering from a motherboard point of view if the Crosshair VI Hero is worth it for what i want to do, or if i'm better of possibly even going to a B350 board. Or should i stick with the Crosshair VI but get the version with inbuilt Wifi and drop the dedicated card. Thanks in advance.
