  1. I forgot about that thread since it got few answers, sorry. I actually went all the way up to a brand new X34P, even if it was near to impossible to find.
  2. Then I guess I just need to trust the review of a specific monitor.
  3. Hi, i am thinking of buying the ultra wide qhd hp omen x35 (AMVA +) since it is much cheaper than the IPS Acer x34 (900$ vs1300$) in my country and has a more aggressive curve. Just one question, though: why do people say that ips screens have better colors? What constitutes a better color? Is it the vibrancy, the reproduction fidelity? I often use sweetfx shaders in games anyway. Does it change anything to have an IPS then? The omen x35 has 100% sRGB, same as Acer x34. Why do I often read that the x34 will have better colors? Thanks.
  4. HI, I am getting ready to go from 4K gsync 27 inch to Ultra wide 1400p. I play mostly AAA games, would like a decent fps (80-90) and care greatly about colors, and visual details. I have GTX 1080ti, Core i7 7700, 16 GB Ram. In Japan, the prices are really high for consumer electronics: New HP Omen X35: 999$ (on sale, with 3 year warranty) New X34: 1270$ (1 year warranty) New Alienware AW3418DW: 1540$ (3 year warranty+80$) Used X34 good condition, 99.7 % good rating seller on auction site: 680$-800$ I would like to keep a reasonable budget unless the difference between 2 monitors is noticeable. A new Omen X35 seems to be a good middle ground but I couldn't find many reviews, and none in the usual high-tech big sites. The Alienware seems great but the 500$+ difference is pretty steep. Any advice? Thanks, David
  5. Hi, i am currently considering a few monitors like the Acer X34, Asus MX34 but am wondering if I really need Gsync. I have an Asus 4K with Gsync now, and I do notice it is much smoother under 60fps with Gsync, but with. 3440x1440p, I should be able to reach good fps without too much trouble anyway. I mostly do GPU intensive AAA games. What do you think?
  6. Thanks for the video. That was an eye opener. The Acer x34 and Asus PG348Q Are around 1300$ here but the HP omen x35 is 1000$. After looking around, it seems I won’t be missing out on much without HDR but Gsync is something I really want. Any experience with these monitors?
  7. It is true that the 1080ti gives me great performance but I am thinking of the next couple of years. FFXV benchmark already gave a hard time. 1440p 21:9 would be much easier to run, be more immersive too if I get a curved screen. I used to think that 100hz was. A gimmick but after comparing 45fps and 60fps, I changed my mind.
  8. Thanks for the link. But I think hdr is much better supported on tv than monitors. I am a sucker for sweetfx profiles but am just wondering if it nearly as good as real hdr. Great thing though: these profiles work on almost all games.
  9. Hi, quick question: is HDR worth the extra cash or do shaders / sweetfx profiles get close enough? Anyone tried it? Thanks
  10. Is it the x34? I am really wondering if Paying à few hundred dollars more to get HDR on the upcoming models is worth it. Any opinion?
  11. Well, that is what I thought at first but playing with resolution rendering options in Andromeda for instance, and putting 4K at 80% I did not notice any difference with the 100% 4K. Free sync is indeed cheaper but Gsync makes fps stutter disappear and everything smooth.
  12. Hi, David from Japan here. GTX1080ti, Core i7 7700, 16GB ram. In short: got a great deal on a 4K 27’ monitor but am thinking about reselling it for an ultra wide QHD. after spending many hours on the forums last year, I decided to get the IPS 4K Gsync Asus PG27AQ. I found one on Yahoo Auction (the Japanese equivalent of EBay) for roughly 470$. I was originally considering the 4K or a UWQHD (acer X34 for instance) but considering the insane price of the Asus, I jumped on it. Great condition, no backlight bleed. After a few months playing AAA games (witcher 3, Andromeda, Divinity Origin, Nier Automata, Dishonored 2), I came to the conclusion that at that size and viewing distance (50 cm), it is really hard for me to see the difference between 4K and 1440p. The effects, textures, HBAO, jump from TN to IPS , etc are much more important. However, even if Gsync makes things smooth, a smooth 45fps is noticeably slower than 60 fps. I have a way to sell the monitor for the same price I bought it 5 months ago, and use that money for another monitor. Question: is Gsync worth it for UWQHD? How about HDR? In any case, given that New monitors will probably come soon, I will wait until then. Any suggestions about good monitors? I will try to find them on yahoo auction. Thank you. David
  13. Went from an older Acer 1200p TN to the Asus 4K IPS, and much more than the 4K, IPS was amazing. The thing is, unless you compare them side by side, it is quite hard to understand the difference. The colors were so much more vibrant and beautiful on the IPS. However, I am comparing a 10+ years old monitor to a quite new one, so my TN may not have been good to start with. I hear that nowadays good TN panels are almost as good as regular IPS. You should check online reviews of a specific monitor.
