    I really liked the looks of the in win d-frame from ces, but I'm gonna wait to see some reviews before I consider it. It looks like a dust magnet.

    try Rainmeter, you can do some crazy stuff that looks cool and is helpful as well.

    In my school's curriculum the first game you write is in java so you might wanna get some java experience before you move onto c++.

    I would personally take a gamble on those Korean 27in IPS panels from ebay and save my best buy credits b/c you're going to need something else eventually.
