  1. SOLVED: I unplugged everything from the switch except my MacBook, internet lights right up. Added back the PC, internet is good. Added back the Unraid Server, all internet dies. Reboot unraid server (the only thing that didn't get a reboot in this whole debacle), and now its working.
  2. Yeah I power cycled the router twice and performed any firmware updates sitting in the backend.
  3. Hey all, need a bit of help with my network switch. This morning I woke up and went to sit at my desk only to find my PC had no internet. Checked all the cables, the switch, rebooted the PC and other items in the chain, and nothing. All the lights on the ports light up like it has a connection but the PC can't connect to any network, it's as if the ethernet cable isn't plugged in to anything on the other side. Strange. Before I continue, let's go over my routing. This will be important for my next troubleshooting step: Shaw Modem in Bridge Mode TP-Link Router -> Network Switch (internet not working on any of these devices connected) PC MacBook Pro Home Server (Unraid) Nintendo Switch (internet working) PS4 (internet working) Apple TV 4K (internet working) Wifi (internet working) I tried taking the cable that's plugged in from the router into the switch, plugged that into my MacBook, and boom internet lights up. Plug it back into the router, check all the connections, plug the MacBook into the switch, nothing, no internet. At this point I'm like, ok it's a dead switch, so I run to best buy, pickup a new switch, same thing. No internet. It's as if the switch isn't getting any signal from the router. I power cycle the router, check the router backend, and it looks like the switch isn't showing up at all in the router website, and I have no idea why since this was all working fine yesterday. Anyone have any ideas?
  4. I have a home build unraid server and it's booted up and working fine however it sounds like the motherboard (or maybe something else?) is beeping once every 5 seconds. Not sure what to do since It doesnt seem like a beep code since the computer is running and doesnt have any problems. Its just annoying to have the beep. Micro-Star International Co., Ltd. 5. I was in a temporary setup and it got caught on my feet a couple times accidentally. but today…a new problem. I restarted my computer and then it bricks itself for no reason. I didn’t install or change anything. Used a restore point and that didn’t work either. My pc is just bricked and likely needs a fresh install.
  6. Hey all, lately I've been having an issue with my Window 11 install becoming corrupt and requiring a re-install. The first 2 times it happened the power cord accidentally got unplugged and then Windows wouldn't boot, it went to the Windows Recovery Screen. Fixed by reinstalling Windows (keeping files in tact) The 3rd time, power gets unplugged, but I was able to restore to a previous version of Windows to get it back without losing apps. 4th time I installed a graphics driver update and when I rebooted, same thing I got the Windows Recovery Screen. Is there anything I can do to prevent this from happening?
  7. Hey All, today my unraid server seemed to just disappear from the network. I was attempting to access one of the network drives from my PC when Windows Explorer locked up and then I could no longer access the unraid panel from the web browser. I rebooted the server a few times but it doesn't appear to be coming back up. The server's VGA output seems to be disabled so I can't see what's going on with it physically which is super annoying. I can hear it power on, fans spin, the ethernet lights are on showing it is connected, however when I go into my router's client list, it's not there as an active client, it doesn't even see it at all. It's an older 1U Dell PowerEdge server. Wondering if anyone has any tips or guidance on how to troubleshoot this?
  8. My MacBook is brand new and was working perfectly fine 2 days ago.
  9. As I said in a previous post, I just went to my workplace and everything is running perfect. MacBook was able to access every website super speedy and was able to access the websites and services that werent working at home.
  10. Im stuck with the powerline adapter since im in a basement suite. The rest of my network is working fine. iPhone and iPad on wifi are fine. PC on ethernet is fine. Just my MacBook not working on either WiFi or Ethernet.
  11. I just went to my work to grab the files I was tyring to download that were inaccessible, MacBook is running fine accessing everything so it is an issue with my network somehow.
  12. So my network was running great (well as great as it can based on the setup i have or am capable of having...). I built a new PC this week. As soon as I added that to the network things started getting real screwy. Here is my setup D-Link Powerline adapter comes from Telus router. D-Link 1750 router from powerline adapter (the dlink replaced a netgear nighthawk that I had. I bought the router today to try and fix issues, some issues were fixed). From the d-link I have an ethernet cable going to the following: - Custom Built PC (newly added) - MacBook Pro via a Dell USB-C dock - Apple TV 4 After adding the PC, my network was having tons of issues delievering speeds above 4mbs. (it should be noted my connection is 75mbps but I am capped at about 50 with the dell powerline). I replaced my old nighthawk router with a new router. PC speeds back up to 50. WiFi Speeds seem to be normal. MacBook speeds are stuck super low. But further from that, certain websites wont even load! SpeedTest.net loads but the speedtest cant start, it spits out an error. Many other websites dont load and give a firewall or DNS error. I had 1.1.1.1 DNS setup, I removed it, same issue. I tried Google DNS to see if something was messed up, same issue. The rest of my devices since upgrading the router are working but the MacBook is struggling to do anything since I setup my new PC this week. I have no idea why. I've tried removing all the DNS settings on my Mac, rebooting, rebooting the router, everything. Nothing seems to be allowing the Mac to access the websites I need it to. I even tried turning off the firewall to see if something screwy was going on there but to no avail. Please no hate about MacBooks are garbage. I much prefer macOS for the vast majority of my work. I have the PC for gaming thats it. You wont convince me otherwise.
  13. So after trying a couple different USB thumb drives I finally got my Windows 10 Virtual Machine on MacOS to create a bootable Win10 install drive. That finally allowed me to install it on the PC. My best guess is that the Mac left some weird remnants on the USB drive that prevented Windows from booting properly.
  14. Formatted the drive to cpt (dont remember exactly the name-followed a guide online) Didnt do anything with ram or overclocking No idea didnt adjust anything No idea will check, finally got the boot media to create through the windows virtual machine going to try it now
  15. forgot, 2x8GB 2666MHz Corsair Vengeance
  16. AMD Ryzen 5 3400G RX570 Gigabyte 450M mboard 500w power 128gb Intel SSD (I had it lying around, was going to use it until i can upgrade to a m.2) 1TB WD drive to be installed later.
  17. I'm having trouble getting Windows installed on a new PC build. Today I picked up the parts for my new PC. Completed the build and proceeded to install windows but am not able to get it installed. I created USB install media from my MacBook Pro, the media boots and gets me to the install Windows screen, but when I select the SSD inside the PC, it gives me an error saying something along the lines of "this disk is too small" even though it plenty big enough to hold windows. Sometimes I can get past that screen and it gives me a different error like "unable to make device boot" or something like that. I cant provide the exact error codes right now as I didnt write them down and am in the process of trying to re-create alternate boot media. I created a virtual windows machine on my MacBook and am trying to create boot media from that but the installer is stuck at 55% so im not sure what to do now. Because you'll ask: No I dont have access to a working PC Yes, the MacBook is the only other device I have The MacBook is running Catalina The USB drive is 32gb, Ive tried 2 different ones, no luck The SSD is 128gb, plenty for Windows Yes no other peripherals other that what is necessary to install windows are plugged into the PC
  18. So I tried that, and I get the following error: wrong fs type, bad option, bad superblock on /dev/sdc, missing codepage or helper program, or other error Also, I tried plugging in the other 2 drives. 1 allowed me to mount no problem, the other shows its able to mount (orange button that's clickable) but it doesn't mount
  19. Im trying to mount in Unraid and this is what I'm seeing, the mount button is greyed out can't press it and the drive isn't available as a share.
  20. I've got 3 drives I pulled out of an old server that are formatted in ext format I believe...the server was running Ubuntu 16 Im trying to get the data off of it and transferred to a new server using Unraid, what's the best way to go about this? I only have access to Mac Machines at the moment and MacOS doesn't support reading ext drives. I tried installing FUSE but its still not showing up.
  21. Im throwing it in an iMac so overclocking won't be an option on this rig.
  22. I have 4 sticks of 4gb DDR3 1600HZ Memory, and 4 sticks of 8gb DDR3 1333Hz memory. What is the best option performance wise? more ram GB or higher hz?
  23. FreeNas was just recommended to me. And it was free. open to other alternatives if they are better/cost effective.
