I've been looking into getting a new monitor to replace my 20" 768p? Dell, and I am torn between either a 29" 1080p ultrawide or a 25" 1440p monitor to pair with my 2012 13" MacBook Pro for photo/video editing, content creation/consumption (as well a bit of low-end gaming: Minecraft, Rocket League and the like). Both of the monitors I've been looking at have over 99% sRGB coverage which checks the biggest box for me, and I'm leaning away from ultrawides as I hear they don't offer much benefit compared to even a 1080p 16:9 as they can feel squashed. I am wondering if anybody has used either of these types of monitors with DAWs and/or for video/photo editing for input on what you think I would want. Does the wide aspect ratio give you more room when editing in Lightroom? Are there any other downsides that I have overlooked? I am also concerned about the price. A 29" ultrawide would be easier for my laptop to drive as well as being cheaper, although I don't think that should be the only thing impacting my decision. What are your thoughts?
Here is the ultrawide I was thinking about: LG-29UM59A-P-29-Inch-IPS-WFHD-2560-x-1080-Ultrawide-Freesync-Monitor-2017-Mod
