  1. Building a sleeper pc for my parents out of stuff that I had lying around, and went to use this motherboard that was on a shelf in a spare room. A family member has recently painted said room, and other than being generally filthy the board is now covered in paint splatters. Are these dangerous? And how should I remove the paint if so?
  2. right got you, I presumed it was 4gb per chip or something on each. will contact ebay
  3. these are mine here, chips look the same as online and the labels are identical to others I've found online. also has the weird little connector to the right which I presume is something for a corsair product? so I can't see anything that screams "this heatsink doesn't belong"
  4. I bought 2 sticks of 16gb ddr4 2666mhz ram from a guy on ebay and after testing them in my PC just now, windows only sees them as 4gb 2133mhz sticks each, doesn't matter what slot they're in or if there's only one. I'm wondering if I've been scammed because I've never seen anything like this before but the labels on the heatsink look legit. any ideas?
  5. nevermind, just figured out how to extend it and we're all good. thank you for your help!
  6. alright, I just followed all that and it seems to have worked, except theres 1600gb unallocated because the partitions got transferred over from the image files as well. can i make that unallocated storage into a new simple volume or will that not work?
  7. forgot to mention, I use the hard drive as well and I don't want to lose everything thats on that. will it wipe that drive, and am I better off with an empty drive?
  8. I just got a new 2tb m.2 SSD, and I'd like to copy everything over from my old m.2 SSD but my motherboard only has one m.2 slot. I have a hard drive with 240gb free space, so is there a way I can move everything into that space then put it on the new m.2?
  9. So I went back to an older motherboard driver, and it worked perfectly (asus crosshair hero vi btw) until this afternoon, and I'm back to 520mhz. Gonna go check that the board hasn't changed the bios somehow
  10. So I saw another thread about a guy with a ryzen 3600x that was bottlenecking at like 540mhz or something, and I realised my CPU never exceeded 520mhz. He fixed it by rolling back his motherboard driver, so I did the same and it fixed it: until today and the issue is back. Idk if the motherboard has reverted to the newer driver or my CPU is just ruined. I'm about to check
  11. haha, updated my mobo drivers a few days ago because my pc wouldn't boot without them. I'll try rolling it back tho
  12. Just made a thread about my pc lagging then saw this, can confirm I've got a similar issue. Cpu won't exceed around 520mhz, Ryzen 2700x. I have a 2600 lying about that I think I'll try just now.
  13. just checked and I don't even have the option listed under tools
  14. haven't a clue, I'll go find out now. Should it be on or off?
  15. nope, it's a wd one like this https://www.scan.co.uk/products/240gb-wd-green-m2-2280-ssd-sata-iii-6gb-s-3d-nand-read-545mb-s-retail except mine is green I think
  16. So I've tried a lot of different stuff and I'm not sure where to go from here. Every game I boot up, from generation zero to stardew valley to fallout 4 is very laggy, around 8fps to 25fps. It doesn't matter what resolution or graphics settings or anything I'm at, they all just lag and stutter really bad. My current spec is: Ryzen 2700x, watercooled GTX 1080 T-force 16gb ram 2400mhz Asus Crosshair VI HERO 370 PSU is something evga, 650W Windows 10 run on an M.2 ssd, and two extra hard drives I've done stress tests and the components can all reach 100% usage but in games the cpu never goes over around 50% and the gpu doesn't tend to pass 30% use. Ram hovers at 8/9gb usage in games. I've updated all the drivers I can think of, including bios, I've run malwarebytes, I've cleaned out everything unnecessary I can find and it's still going on. I'm not really sure what else I should do now, and I'm open to suggestions. I'm about to do a disk check as well as I remembered that while writing this. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks
  17. I can tolerate a high jank level. I was seriously considering milliput. This version seems less janky Edit: forgot to mention that I can't steal one from the other holes, they're fused on tight and I'd rather not damage anything further
  18. Yeah, that's the issue. This is an Asus Crosshair VI Hero X370 which as far as I can tell only has one m.2 slot. And my m.2 drive happens to be 2280 lmao
  19. I don't know exactly how to describe the issue here, but hopefully pictures will make it more apparent. I went to test this used motherboard I got recently and I can't install my m.2 SSD because the nut where I would ordinarily install the standoff is just gone. I presumed I would be able to remove one from the other slots, but the nuts are like directly fused onto the board and I can't remove them. Obviously the previous owner had been hell bent on removing this nut or they massively valued a standoff that was stuck inside of it. I'm slightly at a loss of what to do here. I've sent him a message but has anyone even seen this before?
  20. But $857 is ~£677, and 677 with 20% tax is £812. The laptop here is £1000, not £800
  21. I've been looking around for a laptop for uni, and I noticed that specifically the HP ENVY x360 has an enormous price difference if you're buying in the US or UK. For example, one with windows 10 home, ryzen 7 4700u, 16gb ram, 15.6" display etc identical spec costs $857 and the same in the UK costs £1,000. That's a £322 or $406 difference which is more than significant. It's probably much cheaper to arrange a friend over here to buy it on my behalf and send it to me. What gives? Why is there such a huge difference? What am I missing?
  22. I can't imagine it's an issue because it's a pretty powerful cpu. It's more likely to be software related
  23. 25C on my cpu, 34C on gpu. Surely 3.861GHz is too high for idle? Max boost is 3.9GHz
  24. Yeah, looks like my CPU is throttling actually. Temps are low still but I hadn't noticed the frequencies. What would you suggest?
