  1. i was saying my budget was $200-$300 just for the mic, if i need to spend more on a transmitter and receiver that is fine. I just didn't want to get into the $1000 range for everything yet.
  2. perfect! so these are just recorders? I saw something about transceivers and receivers when i was looking around what are those for typically? Is the sound quality good on these or is the lots of room for improvement as my budget increases with projects in the future?
  3. Well I'm still a noob at this so I'm not sure what a shotgun mic is? It is hard to know what to look for or what I need before knowing the terminology. Basically the scenarios I have imagined are talking videos standing in front of the camera, videos where I'm either running or using a golf cart and want audio to be recorded then synced up in video editing (if that's the best way?). Does that give you enough information? I guess this flexibility makes it tough, the most important thing first would be talking head videos?
  4. Hello Everyone, I am new to the videography/ vlog life. I have a Nikon D750 I am using for photography currently but want to transition into making some videos for fun or things I enjoy. What is a decent strap on mic and a way to record/power the mic for ~$200 for the mic and i am not sure what a good budget is for a recorder for the mic to plug into? The goal is to have the camera setup on a tripod or a friend holding it. While I do some sort of activity. Any one willing to impart some knowledge my way? It would be much appreciated!
  5. Thank you all for your recommendations! come black friday i'll pony up
  6. is it? According to the spec sheet they should be comparable decibels? How is the controller better?
  7. But why the black when it is more expensive?
  8. So I need at least 6tb of storage i'm trying to back up 4tb wd black and my 2 tb wd black and some 500gb ssd's. These aren't all completely filled but I was doing some research and WD Black's are almost the same price as WD Gold's WD GOLD: 234$ @ time of post for 6tb https://www.amazon.com/Gold-Datacenter-Hard-Disk-Drive/dp/B01AV168FS/ref=sr_1_5?ie=UTF8&qid=1505159263&sr=8-5&keywords=wd+gold WD Black: 255$ @ time of post for 6tb https://www.amazon.com/Black-Performance-Desktop-Hard-Drive/dp/B01MQWHTBE/ref=sr_1_1?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1505159309&sr=1-1&keywords=wd+black+6tb While 6tb is my minimum. I was curious what everyone has to think? Which is better black or gold? according to the spec sheets on WD's website the gold is faster, has same cache, and same warranties. Uses slightly less power and etc... However, I was thinking it might be nice to go ahead and get a 10tb version for future proofing and future backing up. I was just curious if there is any performance difference between black and gold or any significant difference at all? I will not just use it for backing up. I may use it to store games for emulators, tv shows, movies, or adobe files from my editing that aren't in immediate use. Can anyone shed some light on the differences and is the Gold the better option that in my mind it appears to be? 9. I couldn't remember if there were the built in ads on floatplane, but after the first comment mentioned the subscription setup it derailed the topic and I got distracted. Which is that I would like to just pay a flat fee 1 time and have floatplane forever too. The built in ads get old when watching from youtube.

    AV Receiver

So I recently purchased and returned an Acer XR382CQK and I ran into a problem. Since I am eventually planning on getting and keeping a nicer gaming/professional monitor that pushes the envelope for resolution and refresh rate. I realized something. Which is that I can no longer pass my hdmi through my receiver and into my TV that I was using as a monitor before. I was wondering if any of you folks have heard of any AV Receivers coming out with HDMI 2.1 or 2.0 that in a year or two I could purchase to go with my Volta GPU I'm planning on getting when Volta comes out. So that when I have my nice new 4k 144hz monitor I am able to pass it through the receiver and get my full surround sound goodness when playing games, movies, editing, and etc... Now I know that I can just run a optical out to my receiver or run display port to my monitor and an hdmi to my receiver to pickup the sound. I did that when I have the xr382cqk but the main feature I missed doing that was being able to go into my receivers options on the display I was using. Also my system kept detecting the receiver as a monitor and would generate 2 displays, 1 for the acer monitor and 1 for the virtual monitor that should have been the receiver. So all the future purchases and what ifs aside. Has anyone heard of anything or does anyone have any recommendations for me? I'm really into watching TV/Movies, Emulators, Gaming on my PC and I like having a huge monitor that I can chill and watch from a couch. As well as enjoy the surround setup I have.
  11. It is "coming" Q1 2018. I doubt it will be in stock or there will be monitors without defects until Q3 or later 2018.
  12. Thank you Zyndo, I think i'll be holding out for the PG35VQ probably. Are you sure it is quantum dot? I thought I saw somewhere it was VA?
  13. @sniperfox you do have to applaud them for their creativity and depth though. Ya i'd be willing to buy a lifetime floatplane membership. I just didn't like it when i tried it. Idk if they weren't uploading a lot because of all the mezzanine changes and reconstruction but i kind felt like there weren't enough videos. Granted 3$ is not a lot of money and i'd happily pay substantially more to be guaranteed like 2 videos a day of LTT since I love watching their stuff. I mostly like product showcases. Whether I can afford it or not it gives me something to save some money for when I look at the best of the best for TV's or Displays...etc.
  14. I recently tried the Acer XR382CQK which is an ultrawide 75hz 3840*1600 monitor. I liked the resolution but I was also curious what similar monitors that are 34 inches+ and have 100hz and UW or 4k are out there. Anyone have some recommendations or know of anything worth waiting for that is coming on the horizon? I prefer displays that are fairly large. I was looking into the 40 inch Phillips as an example. Would love to chat with some of you enthusiasts in the community!
  15. Ya or even that. I personally prefer using my CC's as opposed to paypal. With subscriptions I forget i'm paying for it. It also gets annoying keeping track of all of them.
