  1. are there any pcie x1 wifi cards that are good?
  2. Hello, I built my first computer a month ago and its working great, but I have an ethernet cord running through my house. I was planning on running it through the wall, but I think I would just rather run it wirelessly and save the hassle. I have fast wifi (80 Mbps when I just tested it) and want to keep the speed as close to it is rn as possible What usb to wifi adapters do you recommend that I look at? Thanks
  3. Sorry for the long, drawn out and confusing question but here it is, Hello all, I built my first rig about two months ago and have one nice monitor I have been using for gaming. But I wanted a second monitor just to keep misc. stuff on when gaming or doing work. I found an old dell monitor in my attic with a VGA connector. I also had an adapter from VGA to what looks like DVI-A minus the bottom right most pin. I also had a dvi to hdmi adapter which my computer GPU acually has a slot for. I know the monitor and the first adapter work cause i hooked it up to and older pc and it worked fine. but when i attach the dvi to hdmi adapter and hook it up to my pc the computer registers it and I can my my mouse over it, but no image acually shows up. Is there something I'm doing wrong or should i really just invest in a VGA to Hdmi adapter. Thanks for any advice!
  4. just put in a new HDD, before I just had an ssd. I plugged in the power and sata cable then booted up to the BIOS. It recognized it in Sata slot 4 so i booted up to windows and all i see for storage is the ssd. do i need to do anything in the bios to actually use it or should it just work after it is plugged in. (its a 3tb hdd from barracuda and i have a MSI z270 gaming pro carbon mobo) Thanks
  5. Dang, that was quick. Thanks for all the advice to help me with my build. DocSwag, I am very impressed you managed to fit the whole thing into $2100 dollars, but what I meant was that so far the price added up to $2100 dollars, my total budget is $2500. (I already have headphones and speakers so those don't need to be included). Thanks!
  6. Hello, I am building a pc for the first time and wanted some advice before committing to buying parts. I will be using the computer to play games, use 3d modeling softwares (like AutoCAD), and maybe VR in the future. Here is the build so far: CPU: Intel i7 7700k Cooler: Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO Motherboard: MSI - Z270 GAMING PRO CARBON ATX LGA1151 Motherboard Memory: G.Skill - Ripjaws V Series 32GB (2 x 16GB) DDR4-3200 Memory Storage: Samsung - 850 EVO-Series 500GB 2.5" Solid State Drive and Seagate - Barracuda 2TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive GPU: GTX 1080 ti PSU: EVGA - 850W 80+ Gold Certified Semi-Modular ATX Power Supply Case: be quiet! - Silent Base 800 (Orange) ATX Mid Tower Case with Windows, a keyboard, and a mouse, the build is about $2100. I have not yet decided on a monitor. Here's all my questions: 1) Is the PSU overkill? Pc part picker says the build is about 500W rn 2) Is there any part of the build that would bottleneck the others, or one part that is way better than the others? 3) Monitors? what monitor would you all recommend for this build? I want a fairly nice monitor to match the quality of the other parts in my build, but nothing too absurd on price. I am going to start with a single monitor, and maybe upgrade to a second once I save up some more money again. I am looking at 27 inch, 2560 x 1440 resolution monitors rn, specifically i was looking at the Asus - MG279Q, but am totally open to suggestions. 4) Any other thoughts on something I might need, or do you see any compatibility issues? All advice and general thoughts are appreciated, Thanks!
