  1. I think this has to do with the resolution your CS:GO is at, see if it is lower than your screen resolution I remember something similar happening a while ago on my laptop and that what what it was related to.
  2. By populated i mean the slot has a card in it, so only once, as for the purchase take my feedback with a grain of salt as i have not really done any heavy use with mine. I have a 960 EVO as a startup disk and the system boots in just a few seconds. I have 1 game installed on it that had huge load times, and it starts so much faster. However, that is really all the use i have for it, that's all i can say from my point of view unfortunately.
  3. The x8 slot will work at x4, but if its populated the x16 slot will only work at x8. This is not a big deal as the 1080 as far as i can see does not use all the bandwidth available with the x8 http://www.gamersnexus.net/guides/2488-pci-e-3-x8-vs-x16-performance-impact-on-gpus
  4. That depends on a few things, SSDs need to be powered on every now and then to keep data, but as you are planning a 5 month backup cycle it would not be a problem, HDs don't suffer from this. Second is price, HDs are cheaper in terms of storage space per dollar, at the moment at least, and would last a lot longer if it was left unpowered for a long period of time. Third, you can get HDs of up to 10 gb, SSDs so far as i can see right now, are at 2tb for A$2000+ and fourth, as stated above, recovery is much easier on a HDD than an SSD Speed can also be a factor, HDs are slower than SSDs
  5. Im using a 7700k without watercooling and get nowhere near those temps, seems like it may be the loop.
  6. If you use the built in M.2 slot: From what i have found, the PCIe x16 will still work at x16, but all the x1 slots (the short ones) will not work. I do have an old z97 i did install an M.2 on and it worked the same, but as it was a different motherboard i cannot be sure about yours. https://rog.asus.com/forum/showthread.php?54470-Maximus-VII-hero-and-M-2-SSD-usage-only-one-PCIE-slot-active If you use the adapter card: It seems i read your question wrong. If you use an adapter card in the x8 slot, the x16 would function at x8.
