This is what I was referring to, however it's offsale right now. You seem pretty hurried to get your hands on a unit, what's your circumstance? Just wondering.

Going to be in a different country for a while(unexpected) and I leave the 7th. I was planning to use the 900xs cause I don't use them too much anymore but I never tested it to see if it would be fine in public spaces which its not. Reason for not just buying a new pair of iems or headphones instead of the dac/amp is because I feel like it would be ewaste after this until i travel again because I could just use the dac/amp at home if that makes sense.

Ah, alright. I was under the impression that you were looking in to purchasing the headphones. In that case, disregard my arguments about that. My recommendation for the Meizu dongle still stands however, at least for these headphones. Good economical solution.

The dongle like audiolabs isn't available in the US, or at least to get within 7 days. The only option I could find was aliexpress which would take too long. Ideally something from amazon US or something similar to r/hardwareswap where i could get better shipping options is what I need atm

Have you tried out the 990 pros? Make sure they're really what you want, in this case I might recommend trying out other options out there. Also, You mentioned being out in public spaces. Open-backed headphones are usually a no-no there due to their open nature, or sound leakage both ways. If sound leakage in public places isn't a concern, I'd recommend trying out at least one of these: The Dt770 pro's (250ohm), the Hifiman he400se, and the Sennhesier hd560s. If leakage is a concern, consider the DT770s, as they're closed-back, or perhaps AKG K371's.

Yes! I've had them for about a year now and couldn't be happier, I also own a pair of AT's ATH 900x which i was planning on using bc no dac/amp needed but yeah those leak sound no matter the volume. So far the 990s aren't that bad for leakage and It seems fine for planes and trains.

within your budget Im thinking the ifi hip dac and if you can find it on sale somewhere the ifi nano idsd is pretty close to your budget but msrp is $200

I saw that and was thinking about it but the XDUOO seems to provide more power at the same price which seems to be the biggest concern

Which version of the Pros do you have?

You don't have to get something that large. What's decent battery life to you?

I'd check out the Audiolab M-DAC nano if you want something easier to live with. It's only slightly over your budget, but significantly smaller than what you linked.

    Just the standard ones https://north-america.beyerdynamic.com/dt-990-pro.html
Ideally I would like at least a 6 or 7 hour battery life. It didn't seem like any of Audiolab's products are sold near me or online (USA).
    Thanks!

  6. Hello 🙂 ,

I'm looking to get something that is portable-ish meaning something that won't be too bulky on a plane or a train it won't really be for just walking around so it doesn't have to be insanely small. Budget is max 160usd and if possible something on amazon for quick shipping since I need it pretty soon. It will be used with a pixel 3 and galaxy s21. I'm not sure if the phones require something like this to not suck battery from the phone https://www.amazon.com/Fiio-CL06-Type-Micro-Cable/dp/B07DLQ2XYZ/ref=cm_cr_arp_d_product_top?ie=UTF8 So if anyone does have experience with using dac/amps on these phones that would help a lot too.
Ones I'm looking at right now: https://www.amazon.com/xDuoo-Accessory-Bluetooth-Headphone-Amplifier/dp/B07JGL2LC5
    https://www.amazon.com/FiiO-Q3-AK4462DAC-Technology-MobilePhone/dp/B08K8GXCJJ/ref=sr_1_3?dchild=1&keywords=fiio+q3&qid=1622577407&sr=8-3
    https://www.amazon.com/AK4490-PCM384KHz-Protable-Headphone-Amplifier/dp/B08HLW5934/ref=sr_1_4?dchild=1&keywords=XDUOO+bluetooth+adapter&qid=1622583788&s=electronics&sr=1-4

    Must have:
    A decent battery

    Not be massive

    160$ or less
    Nice to have:

    Charging while listening

    Bluetooth

If I've left out anything please let me know 🙂

So I've contacted them and thats what they said:

I will do as they recommended and see what will happen in 4-5 weeks.

I've set my pump speed to 35%(1381 rpm) until the cpu temps reach about 50 degrees than I rise it up to 60% and with 75 degree to a full 100%. Is this set up crap?

I just keep my pump on 100%, you don't have to i guess you could do something like 50-90% all the time to make sure just depends on the pump

Here's the thing. Yes it has "dolby vision" but it's still not a premium panel. It's still a $600 tv. If you want DV down the road, get yourself maybe a Sony 900 series with full array or OLED. There's where you see a huge difference.

Get the Samsung. Be happy with it. The 55" 7100 is $499 at best buy right now.

The TCL 6 was on sale for sub 600 at best buy so I bought that with a 2 year protection plan

  9. 29 minutes ago, TheFlyingTraut said:

You won't be unhappy with either one. If you feel Samsung is a better bet, because they do have better quality control, go that route. Less headache if anything did go wrong.

Alright, the 6 series is out of my range unless it drops below 600, I think I'll go with the Samsung unless Dolby vision is worth the possible pain of returning a TV

  10. 1 hour ago, TheFlyingTraut said:

For $100 maybe not. And don't bank on a "replacement because it's faulty". Manufacturers warranties are complete and utter trash. They do anything to get out of it. Seen it every day working retail. 5 series is basically a 6 series minus the contrast control zones. The 6 has 96 zones, the 5 doesn't have any zones. Just a typical edge lit. But does support HDR10 and Dolby Vision. You're paying for the contrast control on the 6 series.

They would be close, the 5 and the 7100. Also, do you want Roku TV as an OS, or Samsung's OS? These things matter.

I don't really care, either is fine

Did you read on Rtings? I like their site for reviews, but some of the BS they claim is just that, BS. TCL unfortunately is still a newer company in the states. They have been over in the Asian market for a very long time. 25+ years I believe. They are a very vertical company, and source a lot of things themselves or make it in house to keep cost down. If you're buying it from like a Best Buy, just get the 2 year protection on it. In the case you get a dud, you're still covered up to 2 years, even the 5 year plans aren't bad on those tv's. Electronics are hit and miss with every single one produced, but the bigger companies obviously have a better Sigma value. It's panel lottery :(. I've seen even the Sony 900 series have banding issues. Don't think it's just limited to TCL.

    **EDIT**

You could also just step down to the 4/5 series. supports "dolby vision" but we know how marketing works. The 4 series is a very good selling panel, and because it doesn't have the zone control, you're less likely to see the banding issues.

I'd give the TCL 6 series a shot. Get the warranty stuff if you're concerned about it, but wait for it to go on sale. You might be able to get the TV and warranty for same price as it is now. Don't be afraid of open box stuff either. I've worked in the retail market. Half of the things I own are open box. Stuff works or it doesn't. And you can get warranties on almost every single open box.

Well if it doesn't work I can get a replacement cause it's faulty, also it's more like 100$ more with tax, do you think it's still worth it? And how is the 5 series compared to the 7000 series samsung

  12. 1 hour ago, TheFlyingTraut said:

I edited my post above. And you’re correct. With the Samsung’s and LG’s, their higher tier models are good. Their low ends, TCL beats them.

After reading some reviews it seems the TCL TV has some pretty consistent vertical banding issues, do you know of this or do you think it's a rare thing.

  13. Just now, TheFlyingTraut said:

Yeah. They are both still 60hz, but in my opinion (I’ve sold a lot of both) the TCL supports better HDR, looks more natural and not over saturated. And the Roku system is kinda nice, simple remote. Samsung’s apps are sometimes glitchy.

the Samsung one doesn't have Dolby vision right?

  14. 15 hours ago, TheFlyingTraut said:

Apparently you haven't heard of TCL tv's. I wouldn't consider those "garbage". He's looking for 50" not 65". Plenty of good 60hz tv's in that range. What current model tv can't you play "Super Mario Brothers" on? Samsung's game mode is one of the best in the industry. Don't hook up a PC to these tv's, and your input lag will be fine.

    Go with the Samsung.

I'm not going to be gaming on it, I'm open to bigger sizes if you think that would be a better option rather than the Samsung

  15. 5 minutes ago, TheFlyingTraut said:

Nope. Their 7700 series used to be 120hz, now they are 60hz until you get to the 8000 series now. That was the only advantage LG had over Samsung in their mid tiers, but hasn't been like that for a couple years now. I'd still go with the Samsung. $100 still not worth it. Now if you could get into the 8000 samsung, if you're poking at the extra $100 for the LG 7700, how much more is the Samsung 8000? NOT the 49", because it's only 60hz just like the 7100.

It's 849$, too much for me

Every tv has viewing angle issues. Except OLED. I own an LG OLED C7 and Sony XBR850D , which is an IPS panel, and it still has viewing angle issues. The 7000 series in Samsung does a decent job with angles. I think LG has the best smart menu system in the entire industry at the moment, user interfaces are significantly better than anything I've ever owned or played with. However, I think Samsung makes a better tv. The 7000 series from LG is comparable to the Samsung, but not the 6000 series. It's not fair to compare the two.

Do you think the 55UK7700PUD from LG is worth the extra 100$ over the Samsung?

  17. 1 hour ago, TheFlyingTraut said:

That LG doesn't touch the Samsung 7000 series.... Not even comparable. If you're buying LG, you're buying OLED.

What about the viewing angles, the LG is IPS so it will have better angles, the area is wide and it will be in a corner, people would be looking at it from all different angles

  18. Hello, I am looking to buy a 4k tv at around 500$, I would like it to be 50inches+. The TV will be in a fairly open room with a large window so lots of sunlight during the day. Mostly watch sports and a few tv shows along with movies. So far I've looked at two TVs. Looking for advice on which one to pick, or feel free to suggest a totally different tv.  The two TV's I am currently looking at Samsung UN55NU7100 and LG 55UK6300PUE.
