Hey guys, so I bought 2 monitors off Amazon, they're Sceptre E24's and supposedly they run at 10 bit color and at 75 Hz, which is nice. So I thought I would configure it as such. So display 2 is running at 75 HZ, 10 bit color blah blah blah, but display 1 is stuck at 60 Hz, 8 bit color, blah blah blah. I'm running an MSI R9 290X, with Display 1 coming out of the HDMI output, and Display 2 coming out of the DisplayPort output. How do I make them both match at 75 Hz?

Are you talking about hosting porn, or making porn? Ok, I need to research FOSS, because I've been looking for a replacement for Apple Music for my music collection, and I could just use my server space for that, I'd be into it. Unfortunately I don't, but I did look into it and I'm in love with the idea. I think its fantastic what that project is doing.

So guys I'm sitting on a super hot rod machine here with dual Xeons, 40 gigs of RAM and 8TB of storage and it barely gets any use, other than a Plex server. My bass player said something to me at rehearsal about starting a web hosting service and using the rest of the horsepower on this thing. Is it doable?

If you're in the U.S, find yourself a pair of M-Audio BX5a's. They're usually pretty cheap, and I've used mine for about...10 years now. You can get em for about $200. They have a nice flat bass response which makes them good as reference monitors for mixing and mastering music. The BX8a's are also pretty good, but they do cost a bit more since they do have larger speakers. Same thing with the KRK Rockit 5's or 8's, although those have a much more pronounced bass than the M-Audio units. Studio headphones are good, but if you're gonna get reference speakers for studio use (tracking, mixing, mastering etc), studio headphones don't even come close to a set of studio monitors.

Not gonna lie, I actually chuckled when I read. Dude I keep my servers in my outside storage closet. They can make all the noise they want out there. Strangely enough, my servers don't make that much noise. My Cisco router on the other hand, can be heard if the house is totally quiet and I'm in the living room...with the door closed.

So guys, my motherboard, an ASUS Z97-A, doesn't have enough USB ports for all my peripherals, as well as my case (NZXT H510) having a USB 3.1 GEN 2 port that I would love to use. I'd like to know if theres a USB PCIe card that has at least 4 regular USB 3.0 ports, and an internal header for a USB 3.1 Gen 2 header so I can connect that type C port at the front of my case. I figured it out. I was actually getting an error that said "multiple processors are not supported. The problem was that I had mismatching CPU's in the system. So I ordered 2 new matching CPU's and when I get them in, I'll pop em in and see if they solve the issue. Right now I got the system running with one CPU and Windows installed just fine.

Yeah I got nothing but 3.0 drives. I've tried 4 of them so far. They're detected by the BIOS and everything, they just wont load the OS image.

Hey guys I have one of these old Dell T5400 with the dual Xeon's and I want to use it as a cheap server for temp data. The problem is I cant get the goddamned thing to boot. I loaded a bunch of different ISO's (Win 10, Server 2012, Server 2016 etc.) into a Yumiboot flash drive and I tried every single one and they give me the same page that's on the picture below, and then just boot back into the Yumiboot menu. Anybody got any ideas on what's going on?

Yeah I actually ended up doing that. Its gonna take about 7 hours to rebuild, but the server is still usable.

Well goddamn...can I use the server while its rebuilding it? Like if I reboot the system and get into the OS and use Plex, will the rebuild take longer?

Team, I had one of my drives fail in my RAID 10 array last week. My new drive arrived today, so I'm in the process of rebuilding it now. The question is, how long does it take? Its a 4TB drive and its being rebuilt by the LSI RAID controller's WebBIOS, so the OS hasn't even loaded yet. I haven't been able to find a reliable calculator and the time estimates are anything from 1 hour to 24 hours. The array was maybe...15% full.

Guys, I have come across a dilemma. Below is my network rack. As you can see, most of my network equipment is sitting on a $25 IKEA table, which I realize is not the most elegant of solutions or the most safe. My new server is literally sitting on the floor on the carpet, because its too tall to fit under the table (in a normal tower config) and just a hair too wide to fit comfortably in its current position (the legs are bending a bit). Its also too heavy for the table (Its about 120 lbs) So I need to find something else to put my rack on. Anybody have any ideas? I am working with limited space, but I think I can get away with another inch or 2 of clearance in both height and width.

Yeah that's what it is. What I really need on this setup is an SFF-8484 to SFF-8087 cable, I found them on Monoprice for about 11 dollars. I went with a different solution, but if it doesn't work, then I'll order these and return the rest of the stuff I ordered. Thanks for all the help guys!

You know what? You're right. The connectors aren't the right standard, however, what I can do, is just run this thing without the backplane. I'll take it out of the server completely, and then just run the drives directly connected to the breakout cables to the new LSI card. The drive cages should hold them in there securely enough for them to run without me worrying about it. Its ghetto, but it will work.

Well yeah I'm not worried about the labeling, that I can do easily. The thing is, theres only 2 connectors on the backplane and 8 breakout cables in total. So that's where I'm confused. I dont know which one of the breakout cables I need to use.

Ok sweet, so that's hurdle number 1. Now I took the server apart today for fun/planning, in anticipation of my drives arriving tomorrow. Now the thing that I think is gonna be a problem is this. The backplane has 2 SAS connectors, one for each row of drives. They're standard SFF-8482 connectors. Now the cables I ordered are gonna be SFF-8087 to SFF-8482 and they're going to go to the LSI 9260-8i Card. However these cables have 4 SFF-8482 connectors a piece. Is it gonna matter at all what connector I use from the backplane to the card? How is the card gonna read the drives?

Team, I have a acquired a Dell Poweredge 2900 while my RAID controller and drives were in shipping. So I had an idea, can I use my new LSI card in this server while still running my new drives? My concern is that I bought 4TB drives and idk if the backplane will support it.

Cisco 4948. Its managed, but I can get you a basic configuration that you can just copy and paste into your favorite terminal emulation program and it will run pretty much right out of the box. They are CHEAP too, and have 48 1 Gigabit ports, plus 4, 10 gigabit SFP+ Ports. I have one as my main switch at home and it kicks ass. The only downside is, its a little loud. You can find em on eBay for under $75 most days.
