  1. I don't care one way or the other. If there's a laptop with a decent GPU for my budget then that's great, but the money may better be spent elsewhere. My home rig is where I'll be gaming. Do you have an opinion on the laptop I linked in the OP?
  2. USA. Again, weight doesn't matter, and battery life isn't that important. 5ish hours of moderate use is probably what I want to shoot for, but it's not totally required. 13-15 inches is my preferred range. Non-upgradable RAM is fine as long as it's at least 12gb. Higher color accuracy would be nice, but isn't a deal breaker.
  3. I'm in need of an upgrade finally. I have a Surface Pro 4 (i5-6300U, 4GB RAM, 128GB SSD) right now and it's killing me. One of my classes this semester more or less requires a laptop and I don't want to suffer through the course with what I have. I'm really leaning towards this right now, but I wanted a second (or third) opinion. I'm mainly looking for something that won't suffer from constant slowdowns and will ideally last 2 years until I graduate. To me this means 12GB RAM, a 256GB SSD (I have plenty of cloud storage and would get an external hard drive anyway), and not the cheapest processor. The screen isn't as important, but obviously I want something at least 1080p and IPS, and 15" is probably my max since I don't want to have some monster in class. Aesthetics are always a plus, but not necessarily a deal-breaker. Good battery life is a bonus but I'll be able to charge it about as often as I want to. Weight is no issue. Oh yeah, and I'd like to stay under 700-750 USD Hope this is enough detail. Thanks in advance.
  4. Hey all, Recently got a Cryorig R1 Universal. It's big, beautiful, and cools wonderfully. Only problem is It has two fans, along with the case fan that's so close it may as well be a third fan for the heatsink (it's plugged into the CPU_OPT header, the R1's fans are on the main CPU header using a PWM splitter). This can get loud with a 4790k @ 4.7GHz. My question is, if I underclock my CPU to maybe 3.5GHz @ 1.0V, could I get away with removing the two fans altogether? Or at least the case fan one one fan from the cooler. I know the underclock works well because I had to use it when my AC went out. It sits under 60C at load with a 212 EVO. What do you think? I'm not entirely set on doing this yet since I like high clock speeds, but with a 4790k, it doesn't make much difference.
  5. That's what I thought, but my i5 and 4gb of RAM doesn't really feel adequate to me and upgrading it would be more expensive than switching. I don't hardly use the pen anyway.
  6. That's what I was thinking when it came to getting the dell since it has a better CPU. My mom was the main factor in getting the surface since I had a limited knowledge of laptops/tablets.
  7. I currently have a Surface Pro 4 with the i5, 4GB RAM, and 128 SSD. I also have the keyboard and pen to go with it. Ebay tells me I can get around $550 for it. I have someone offering to sell me his almost new Inspiron with a 6700HQ, 960m, 8GB SSD, and 1tb HDD for $640 (may be able to get it for less) Should I do it? I'd like to have a laptop that can actually handle more than a few chrome tabs and Word. I figure I can play CSGO on the road if necessary or some other light games. I'm also an engineering student so I could actually run solidworks, but I'd lose the ability to sketch on the tablet surface. What do you think?
