  1. As the title says, I am on the hunt for a nice, used laptop I can use for school and light gaming in my downtime at work. (Others have brought their own laptops, a Switch and even a mobile VR rig.) I'm currently looking right now, but there's so much to sort through.. Here are my "Prerequisites:" - 15.6" Display or bigger, 1080p would be nice but not necessary - 2017 or newer (Preferably, but not necessary) - Core i5 / Ryzen 3 / Ryzen 5 - At least average battery life (What, 6ish hours? I've never owned a laptop before.) - Windows 10 Home/Pro 64-bit - Replaceable/Upgradable SSD/HDD, RAM, Battery - No Touchscreen if I can avoid it - Absolute max budget of $350 I have absolutely no problem buying used or refurbished hardware. I have never owned a laptop before, so I'm looking for any and all advice! Thanks a bunch!
  2. Hm.. So let's forget about that level of battery life, as I'm not too much of a fan of Apple products. What do you suggest then?
  3. Hey guys! I was hoping you could help me out. I'm looking for a new laptop, as my hand-me-down ThinkPad W541 has unfortunetly bit the dust. I can't think of what my father used it for, but I never made any real use of the Nvidia Quadro card it had in it. Anyway, to the point: I'm looking for a lightweight laptop around a 13" screen size, back lit, and a decent battery life - maybe around six hours? - as I'll be heading off to trade school come May. I'm not really looking for anything fancy, and will gladly pick something up used or refurbished, as my price point is under $400. (Thank you, shitty jobs and student loans!) What would you guys recommend?
  4. So I'm looking at building a new PC for Christmas / my birthday (about 2 months after Christmas), and I'm thinking that I could live without my main gaming system for a while as I get the new components together. Problem is, I'm not quite sure how much I should sell my current build for... So I've come to you guys, the "Internet Professionals!" Here it is: - This is all housed in an HP Compaq case, so there are some things I'm not sure on the identity of. - i7-2600 @ 3.4GHz, Turbo @ 3.8GHz (if I'm not mistaken). LGA 1155 / Sandy Bridge, 4C/8T - 4 x 4GB DDR3-1333 RAM - Seagate Barracuda 1TB 3.5" HDD - Samsung 970 EVO (I think, somewhere in that series) 250GB SSD, using as boot drive - Windows 10 Home 64 Bit I think? Not sure how to check on that - MSI TWIN FROZR 750 Ti 2GB, Factory OC - Unknown 300W PSU and Mobo One thing I should mention is that I have a new motherboard that you could put in if you got a new PSU along with it, so you have some room for expansion. Thank you guys in advance!
  5. When I say "new" I mean I just need another one. Any board will work, new or used.
  6. I'll keep it short and sweet. I'm looking for a new LGA1155 mobo, since the one I currently have is a non-standard Hewlett Packard out of a Compaq HP 8200. I just wanted some ideas of what I could get for $100 or less before I go out and buy anything. I have a GTX 1050 Ti and a CX 550M psu laying around from Christmas I'd like to use.
  7. Hey guys! I just bought a 1050 Ti 4GB and a CXM 550W 80+ Bronze PSU for Christmas, but I'm unsure on what the best case would be. I'm planning to overclock in the not-so-distant future, but not by too much. I do like RGB, but nothing over the top. Any suggestions? If needed to know, I have an i7-2600 CPU with DDR3-1333 Memory (Planning to upgrade this as well), on an HP Compaq mobo from a - you guessed it - an HP Compaq computer.
  8. Hey guys! I've had an old Intel Core 2 Duo E6550 and an old Radeon HD 6350 laying around, and just found my dads old GTX 660 Ti in the unfinished area that we just shove old crap into. I was wondering if there was any way to make a solid HTPC out of this? Wouldn't really use it for anything other than watching YouTube or the like.
  9. The title really says it all. I asked my dad, "If I put together a new gaming PC for $400, could you do it for me?" He said that I'm better off with what I have currently. Here are my specs: - Intel Core i7-2600 @3.40GHz, 4 Cores / 8 Threads - Hewlett-Packard mobo (Didn't have a model #, name was "Base Board" in System Info) - NVIDIA GeForce GTX 750 Ti 2GB - BenQ 32-Inch Monitor, 1080p 60Hz - Asus 26-Inch Monitor, 1080p 60Hz - I couldn't find my RAM specs. As far as I know, it's 16GB Quad-Channel DDR3 @ 1333 Gigs Help me prove him wrong.
  10. Hi everyone! I'm trying to do a project for school, specifically trying to make the smallest PC I can using a spare Core 2 Duo I had laying around. Does anyone know of some extremely small mobo's that I won't have to pay a pretty penny for? Thanks in advance.
  11. I'm looking at Ebay for this stuff so I don't have to spend an arm and a leg for new parts, and an RX 560 4GB is looking pretty much between $120 and $150. Awsomeee.
  12. Alright, cool! Also - just curious - what about an AMD GPU? I've always heard back and forth that AMD GPU's give you a slightly better "bang for your buck."
  13. Please note that I don't know how to respond to comments, Kappa. Just like the title says. Looking to get a Z77 ASUS Sabertooth and 16GB's of DDR3-2133 RAM, but I'm having a hard time finding a good GPU for it. Sub-$150 would be nice if possible. Also, could I overclock a GPU or CPU if it's bottlenecking with one of the other? Thanks guys!
  14. Hello everyone! Super quick question. I noticed when viewing this board online that there are red LED's on the corners, and I was wondering if it's at all possible to change those to blue? Would rather know now than buy it and be disappointed later.
  15. Hey everyone! Volework here. I'll keep it short and sweet. So, I've managed to collect around $550 to play with for some new computer parts, and I'm really leaning on Newegg's Early BTS Sale and Refurbished parts if I can to get the best "Bang For Your Buck." What I'm really looking for are parts that I can keep for at least 2 - 4 years and still be able to play new releases fairly well, around 50 - 60 FPS on High, with some tweaking. So, that leads me to the question for my GPU: Are GTX 900 Series / R7 300 Series / R9 200 Series still good (I think I got the hierarchy's right...)? What do you guys recommend?
