  1. thanks a lot , just didn't want to lowball my friend too much.
  2. I was on the market for a new vidcard but realized the prices are still crazy. As it is my friend is willing to trade his msi Armor 1080ti for my evga 980ti +400$. Is that a fair deal? I can't tell because of the current prices for everything.
  3. I recently got the gskill trident z rgb for my build and was all ready to match my nzxt krakens lights effect until I read about software conflicts between nzxt's cam software with gkills rgb software. Has anyone figured out a workaround to this? Its a minor issue, but it would be nice to have my components light show match.
  4. Based on personal experience, i had an sapphire rx480 OC nitro on a 3x1080p display. I'm used to playing at sub 60s framerates with as much eyecandy, but with some games 60+ fps was possible and even higher with some setting tweaks. Now based on what benchmarks I've seen comparing the 2, 60fps 1440p x3 on the r9 290 might be asking too much. This might not be the best example but if I remember right I benchmarked deus ex mankind divided on 1080p x3 at very high settings all around and got 25-29fps. you would have to compromise if you are trying to stay under a price point.
  5. Its like when your adjusting color on a tv set and move the blue slider up high so that black colors have a blue tone to them. For me the price was worth it for the inconvenience now and them, and i bought it ready to return it if it bothered me.
  6. I recently bought an msi g27c optix off from bestbuy for 220$ (sale). Its a 27" curved 1080p 144hz with freesync. Right now its 250$ so Im not sure if you want to go up a bit. *** Fair warning though, there is an issue with some of the production runs. The screen will have a blue tint where black colors should be after explosions/alt tabbing when freesync is active. I personally can't tell what triggers it on my screen but a quick power on/off fixes it. Happens rarely and its not a big deal breaker for me as I usually have a chance to restart my monitor when it happens, but I understand it might be distracting to some people.
  7. Thanks everyone for the advice, I think I am going with the astock 350 then as most of the replies said. Still going through reviews here and there about the cpu before I decide.
  8. Hello LTT folks, first of all thanks for the advice I've been getting with my current setup. I was able to get 4ghz on 1.275v with my fx8320e after trying OCing for the first time. With that said, I'm trying to finalize my purchase on a new build I'm working on since the ryzen 5 release. It's mainly a gaming pc which I hope to hit at least 100fps at veryhigh settings to go with my new 144hz monitor. I'd like to stream with it now and then at 720p/30fps but if I do get serious I would probably just set up the old fx wih a capture card and go higher. I want to go with a white/black scheme to go with my case, aio, and trident ddr4s. Trying to keep everything around 300, but could go over if I feel it seems the extra $ is worth it. Cpu: ryzen 1600 or 1700 I am leaning towards the 1600 Going with just a light OC (no voltage adjustment) and mainly gaming. I've seen some videos where the 1600 actually beat the 1700 on some games (may have been a dx12 issue). I dont plan to make it a dedicated streaming pc. Mobo: Astock ab350 pro or Asus prime x370 pro Not doing SLI and only have 1ssd, 2hdds. I have a wireless card for my network, and not reqlly an audiophile that 7.1 is a big issue for me. Would the Asrock ab350 perfect for my purposes or is there an issue with 350s that i should skip and just go x370? As for the rest of my system, I have: gskill trident ddr 3200 2x8gb evga 980ti classified kraken x52 Thanks in advance for any suggestions and advice. Also my part choices were mostly from the local microcenter, so if there's other stuff online that you would recommend I wouldn't mind looking.
  9. Hello again folks. I finally had an AIO installed and have gone deeper into OCing my rig. I've looked around for the usual guides and have been using IBS for my stress testing, hwmonitor for checking my voltage and temps, and nzxts cam monitor also for the temps. what's bugging me is that HWmonitor is giving me a max Cpu Vcore of 2.--V when I only set the voltage to 1.4v. I've checked to see if I might have left some of the extra settings on by default (turbo boost etc) based on a guide I was reading but I'am stumped. The rig had been stable for at least 30 mins when I left it running but I stopped the test when I saw the max voltage reading show 2.1v. I personally didn't notice the actual value show up realtime so I was wondering if this is normal? Or am I missing something? For now I have it down to 1.275v on bios, but while IBS is running, I just saw the voltage spike to 1.34v. thanks again for everyones help. My specs: fx8320e gigabyte 990fxa-ud3 16gb crucial ballistix nzxt kraken x52 Evga 980ti
  10. What is the safe temp levels i should be watching out for at idle and under load? right now im running intelburn test and Hwmonitor is showing 47c/116f afterburner shows cpu at 100% Im about to bump it up again but would like to know what sort of limits i should watch out for temps.
  11. Thanks for the replies, I'll keep them in mind and see what happens over the wrrkend
  12. Until I actually buy a new ryzen/mobo set I figure I'd like to finally try overclocking my pc. I've been reading some beginners guides and "how-to" videos on youtube. Before I start this weekend, I wanted to cover my bases and ask some questions. My current setup is fx 8320e w/ hyper 212 air cooler gigabyte 990fxa-ud3 Crucial ballistix 16gb ddr3 Evga 980ti classified 6gb 650w psu (cant remember the model on top of my head if its evga or thermaltake) My questions would be: 1. Is my aftermarket cooler (and other parts)decent enough to try overclocking? 2. Whats the ideal temps for a gpu/cpu while idle and under load? 3. I saw that MSI afterburner, HWmonitor and cpuz were used a lot. I would assume the temp readings are accurate enough without having to buy extra temp reading tools? 4. Which benchmarking tools should I use to specifically target my cpu? For gpus i saw unigine used. My goal right now is to just see how much i can get without bumping up the voltages (havent read too much about this part yet), while staying with just the air cooler. Cant wait for the weekend and hopefully I dont burn the house down.
  13. This just happened to me last week. I had a rx480 8gb which was already exceptional for the price at msrp. (280$) played lots of shooters at ultra settings on a 3x monitor setup. Few days ago I got my hands on a 980ti for under 300$. (Was able to get it for even less, especially after selling my 480). My point being, I recommend the rx480 or the 980ti. The AMD card might just go down further with the 580 releasing soon. While the 980ti might be a little harder to find on amazon or ebay, but if you do its really great.
  14. Too much work, get a new gpu/case. lol jk. Honestly though I for one am also curious if it does improve temps when you do cut it.
  15. My exact same model, and i even game with 3x monitors
