  1. Follow-up, it just happened again, twice. This time while trying to zoom-in in Photoshop. XMP on/off makes no difference. @Fasauceome @Constantin Here's what the windows event log shows:
  2. I turned on XMP and it made no effect on my speeds. I just realized that like an idiot, I had the RAM in the A1/B1 slots instead of A2/B2..... XMP took effect now, so I'll try to reproduce the issue. EDIT: So far so good..... Well see.
  3. Not only am I not sure if it's the card, but I'm not sure if it's a hardware defect or some compatibility issue I need to address...
  4. I'm leaning towards GPU because the system logs and the BSOD reference nvlddmkm.sys. But no I haven't ruled out memory.
  5. Desperately need help! Feb 15th, I bought brand new PC parts. The build runs cool, GPU never goes above 70C at full load. Ryzen 9 3900X Zotac RTX 2080 AMP 32Gb 3600 Mhz Trident Z Royal GIGABYTE Aorus x570 elite Corsair RM 750W PSU 80+ Gold Full list: https://pcpartpicker.com/user/oPryzeLP/saved/dRdqpg Symptoms: Video: At random intervals, all 3 monitors will go black for a few seconds (like they were unplugged) and whatever program I had open at the time will close without error. Sometimes, this results in a BSOD (2 different examples attached). And sometimes the PC completely shuts off and restarts. A key element is that this has never happened during casual use (Desktop, Chrome, Discord, etc). It only has happened in the following software: Adobe XD Davinci Resolve (By far the worst, cant get 2 min in) Photoshop CSGO Apex Legends Robo 3T There is no single action that causes this. It could be literally anything. Such as, changing a preference in Photoshop, importing media into Davinci, clicking a rectangle in Adobe XD, joining a game in CSGO. It's common but not 100% reproducible because it happens at seemingly random actions. Some applications that run totally fine are: Gears 5 Fortnite Steam Qt Creator Chrome What I've tried: Reinstalled Windows 10... 3 times NVIDIA drivers.... tried latest, older, and studio drivers Underclocked my GPU with MSI Afterburner Uninstalling Logitech mouse and webcam (someone said it helped them) Lot's of Googling, haven't found a similar situation XMP on/off (as suggested in this thread) Any ideas? I'm eager to try things. Here's the System event log when this happens: Error 14, nvlddmkm The description for Event ID 14 from source nvlddmkm cannot be found. Either the component that raises this event is not installed on your local computer or the installation is corrupted. You can install or repair the component on the local computer. If the event originated on another computer, the display information had to be saved with the event. The following information was included with the event: \Device\Video3 CMDre 00000001 0000020c 60000fff 00000004 00800000 The message resource is present but the message was not found in the message table Thank you so much for your time.
  6. Idk I think I'll stil with the 7500. I dont feel like I'll notice the improvement for the extra $40
  7. Ah, my mistake. Forgot about the cooler... i5 7600k: $270 + $70 = $340 i7 6700: $293 + $45 = $338 Hmmm, you've given me something to think about. Also, user benchmark says it isnt faster http://cpu.userbenchmark.com/Compare/Intel-Core-i7-6700-vs-Intel-Core-i5-7600K/3515vs3885
  8. THis is the mobo i'm looking at, so no, it would end up being more expensive https://pcpartpicker.com/product/VM2rxr/gigabyte-ga-b250m-ds3h-micro-atx-lga1151-motherboard-ga-b250m-ds3h
  9. It is? From what I can see, the i7 6700 is much more expensive at $290. I get your point about future proofing, but that typically doesn't outright convince me because circumstances always change and technology always evolves. I'm betting against AMD's track record when compared to intel. I understand they just released a new cpu today, which is why I'm really not comfortable picking it up right away. Like I said, I have bad luck with hardware. All things considered, I feel more comfortable going with an intel rig because I need that single core performance for emulating games and cpu intensive stuff. I DON'T need it for multithreading or editing. I appreciate all the replies on this thread! I've learned a lot and I think I've made my decision. 7500 for me
  10. Won't be going into multithreaded workloads. Just gaming. I personally don't feel comfortable overclocking. I have terrible luck with hardware so i never want to push it... ever. Plus, I'm worried about overheating and dont want to fork over extra for a serious cooler. I just feel more comfortable going with stock. I'm dead set on this. If the 7600k is just an unlocked 7500, why is the base clock speed different?
  11. So it seems like Ryzen isn't the way to go for my use case. I won't be overclocking and I won't be needing all those threads. So now I'm torn between the i5 7500 and the i5 7600k. Is there much of a difference?
  12. Woops! I seemed to have gotten you mixed up with someone else. Apologies! I thought you were making the case for a Ryzen and was really confused.
