  1. Appreciate all opinions. I thank you all. Made my decision much easier. I am going with a 24-27inch, 144+hz, 1ms, 1080p. Seems I can do that now under 200 with the Acer line. Going to just wait till black friday/cyber monday deals and buy one. Thanks all.
  2. Whats your own opinion on picking a "ultrawide 21:9 ratio, 60-75hz refresh rate, 5ms response time" versus a "16:9 ratio, 144hz refresh rate, 1ms response time". Where all the focus for use is competitive twitch based gaming? Which would you pick and why? Always wanted an ultrawide, extra viewing left and right is a nice bonus. On flipside seeing more fluid with 144hz, seems more hardcore gamer worthy. I'm currently "1080p, 16:9, 65hz". I have never played on a 144hz panel. I can't afford an ultrawide 144hz monitor... Budget $250 or under. Even ones around $500 have absurd response times like 14ms. Just having a hard time pulling the trigger on this purchase. Since they both together have what I want for the price I can afford, yet lack for me alone.. So I'm torn between the two options. Looking for a meaningful push towards one or the other. Basically eye-balling from these two, "$150, LG 25UM58-P 25-Inch 21:9" and "$250, BenQ Zowie XL2411P 24 inch 144Hz". I'll take any other recommendations though. Thank you for your time.
  3. Well that sucks. Thanks for the help though, much appreciated. Just find it funny. Ran same IDE HDD's for over a decade, still have 8 of them in use(just not primary use). Only 1 died on me after like 12 years a raptor 10k RPM one, which was a primary drive(which I can still access, but hangs sometimes). Seems with newer HDD's on sata, I've had 3 die on me within 4years, 2 of them died about same time but in different desktops. I suppose on that note, there is a reason they sell drives meant for different tasks these days. One can't just buy the fastest one like old days and expect long life. Probably going to look into specific task oriented HDD's for the future or RAID mirror storage.
  4. Just bought one and tried it. Computer will recognize the drive, I can see it. But it does not show any other data like size. Then it freezes the window if I try to open or view properties. Also freezes if I try to access it in command prompt. The freezing stops once I unplug the USB to the external drive. Any other methods one can think of to try to access this drive? Thanks.
  5. I had a 3-TB HDD die on me. Would freeze my computer non stop when installed. Removing it fixes this. New HDD doesn't have this issue. I tried running scandsk, to no avail via command prompt with /f command to run in full on reboot. I would like to recover the data off this HDD. But since it freezes if I install it, how would I go about that? Most times it hangs windows up before it even loads. When it does load windows, it grinds to a complete halt just opening folders, it might resume but is super slow or freezes again. No blue screens. Sometimes makes icons not load in on desktop as well. I've reinstalled windows 8 on it, when I bought a new HDD. So is no shortcuts or folders being accessed on the failed HDD, it freezes regardless if installed it seems. Beyond opening a folder it probably tries to index the failed HDD, for the left panel. I have not tried loading straight into DOS, which doesn't seem to be as easy as older version of windows. Would SAFE mode allow me to recover? Or do you know a program that would do this? Or any method really, thanks. It is on my HTPC computer. Win 8.1, AMD 925 @ 3.2ghz, 8gb ram, GPU is a AMD r5 230 or similar card. Think its worth trying it in my gaming rig? It has win10. Any opinions or things to try will be very appreciated. Thank you.

    New games

Since you like Arma. You'd probably like Squad. Faster paced in and out 1hour games basically. Sure its MP only, but you work like a squad most times. The game forces it for the most part. Unless you get a craptastic squad leader. I very much enjoy it currently, since it is a PC only title. You can even play and not engage the enemy directly if you wish. Since the game has a pretty good base building system, which includes spawn points. Otherwise you spawn at main base or rally points. Can fortify buildings, lay down MG's, yada yada.
  7. Man I've tried most things minus regedit. Its quite annoying... Especially when it interrupts my gaming to schedule a reboot for updates. Which is the newer thing they do now. If you click no or off, it will just repop up again and again. So what is it I'm not doing to stop win10 updates?
  8. Had a craptastic weekend fixing my computer after big May forced update for Win10. Figured I'd share my experience. This more a story of my headache/heartache, than it is for tech advice. Hence why I put it in the General Section. After taking that big May update for win10, my computer would freeze after 1-10minutes after loading(could move mouse, but nothing responsive including keyboard). I had a "not-so-sure" failing SSD, since I had to reconnect it 2x in past 6months manually to get my BIOS to recognize it(was waiting till it died), swapped cables last time and sata port. Then I'd randomly get MB beeps on reboots for 4-beeps which indicates memory issue. So I reinstalled win10 over a dozen times..... Sometimes would freeze mid install, due to my SSD. But each time I couldn't see what I opened in Windows after fresh install(seemed to be right after an auto update, since it would flicker my display and give me 1080p). Which I couldn't tell if it was due to my failing hardware or software update. Upon reboot each time after this happened, I'd see win10 load but then black screen.... Turns out I was victim of 2 known bugs with win10. If you have on-board video and a GPU, it sometimes expands it as if you configured 2 displays(hence why I couldnt see what I opened, it was on the other display). Then upon reboot, it would 100% fully goto my secondary display, which was my TV via hdmi. I literally was pulling my hair out.... Bought 8gigs more of ram, thinking it might be part the issue. Bought a new SSD knowing I needed one anyway. Just to walk into these 2 bugs again and again and AGAIN!!! Then I stumbled upon an old bug from 2014 with win10. About dual video displays and win10 trying to expand onto both. Then hitting (winkey+p, then down arrow 2x, then enter) Would fix the expand problem. But upon reboot it would fully goto my secondary display my Tv, giving me a black screen. So when I was on my last straw basically.... I was going to run my computer off my onboard video, to see if it would work. Saw my HDMI cord and wondered... Turned my tv on saw my computer... Unplugged HDMI and WHAM working like it should have 8+hours ago!!! So now my computer is fixed. Damn sure previous freezes were SSD, win10 update, or combination of both. But those 2 bugs! drove me mad when trying to fix my computer! Like why doesn't this work! Sucked... But now I'm at 16gigs of ram, which I wanted to upgrade to. Bought another SSD so I feel safe about my SSD again. Turned my old SSD as a Games Only SSD. Which ran fine with my game on it for over 4hours. Updated my Bios to current firmware and beeps went away and better support for my CPU now. Plus added OC options. Memtest shows no problem with any of my RAM. I just wanna kick Microsoft in the nuts for forcing updates and having this stupid bug since 2014....
  9. I was primary PC gaming, till I moved to the country then I bought a xbox360. Moved back to a city still kept the 360 and quickly getting outdated computer. My house was robbed, he took my xbox 360. Insurance paid me 400 for it, which was damn nice! It was like 6months before release of ps4/xbox1, so instead of waiting I went back to PC gaming. Threw down 850ish for my rig while I waited on AMDs new GPUs to drop, which were lack luster, so I waited more for a gtx 970. Brought my total to around 1250ish dollars, minus stuff I spent on extras for needless things like lights. Then I end up to where I am now, low count for American players in virtually any game I play. Majority of them I can indeed find a game, just not in America always. Which for twitched based first person shooters, just sucks having such a high ping. I feel American PC gaming is dead and I wasted my money basically. So curious if others felt this way. Well ones that indeed play real-time-twitch-based-multiplayer games in America. I'm already settled on going back to consoles come new console launch this winter. Rather see what microsoft will show with their upgraded console. Otherwise I'd have a ps4 right now, with xim for mouse support. Just saddens me if you will. Core PC market is EU, while Americans mostly went console over the past 10 or more years. Any major publisher of PC games shows this trend as well with releases.
  10. No my internet is fine. 8 year field technician for cable/satellite, I installed it myself from tap to my modem. My docsys is .5+ signal, 0 being ideal. 60mbps constant 25-30 ping to nearest city. I'm also only person using my internet. I use speedtest.net to test it along with logging into the modem itself. Then I have that region on paladins, but it still will put me in EU servers when match making takes long enough. Easy as asking at end of game, along with seeing my 110+ ping via f9 i think it is for paladins. On westcoast servers I see 60-80, on eastcoast i see 35-60. Yea it does suck. I just wanna play my games online and not have to pissy fit trying to find a server. Hell they don't even allow you to run your own servers for games anymore, double suck.
  11. After spending 1400 some dollars on my rig, 2 years ago... I totally regret coming back to PC gaming. At least for a USA player. I cannot find online games! Ones I can give me limited options... BF1 only half a dozen servers to choose from, EU side of it dozens... Hardcore mode BF1 only 1 or 0 servers.... COD blackops3 zombies No USA servers, it is so rare even at game launch... Battlefront2 countless times "could not locate a server" this game doesn't even allow me to join EU servers. Paladins a free2play game mind you, 75% the time I have 110+ ping which means EU server... Same to be said of bf3/bf4/bf whatever when they came out... Hell did you know that EA doesn't even make any sports titles for PC, except wait for it.... FIFA... We all know how much Americans love soccer! Shows you where the market is for PC right there... Check steam census and its a smack to your face. So what is the damn point of PC gaming if I can't even find a server? I'm not oceanic/Australia.... But I'm sure feeling their pain since returning to PC gaming... Whiles consoles do not have this issue in America. So whats the point of a PC master race if you can't even play the damn game with decent ping? Feel I wasted my money, could of just built a decent rig at 500, then bought both consoles, with how much money I wasted... I'm done with PC gaming, its not like how it was 10-15years ago in America. It sucks now... Going back to console and buying a XIM to at least use a mouse.... Anybody else feel this way?
