  1. I've noticed that whenever I play certain games, anything I have going on my second monitor starts to stutter, but only when I have the game in focus. Discord works perfectly fine, except when I try to stream for my friends, it lags and stutters on their end to the point where it's pretty much unwatchable. Restarting Discord in administrator mode fixes it, but that doesn't work for the other apps. If I have a youtube video open, the audio is fine, but the video lags and stutters and eventually the video stops playing. Whether I have the game in borderless window or regular fullscreen, if I click off the game and onto chrome so it's focus, the video stops stuttering and plays just fine, until I go back to the game. The only game that I've found that doesn't cause this is Stellaris. It seems like a driver issue to me, I've tried updating my graphics drivers (gtx 1080) to no avail. I think the problems with discord and chrome are related but they're just disconnected enough that I can't figure out how to google this. Has anyone faced something similar or might know where to look?
  2. My current setup is comprised mainly of parts I got for my birthday some six years ago, and the CPU (i5 3570k) is really starting to show its age, so I figured it's time for an upgrade. Unfortunately everything is old enough that I'll pretty much need to replace everything except the GPU, as I bought a 1070 relatively recently and it still does just fine. I've worked out a plan, and I figured I'd post it here beforehand to see if there are any better options or if I chose something wrong. Here it is: CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 3600 - this is pretty much the cornerstone. It's looking like a stellar option for price to performance, especially compared with my current CPU. Motherboard: Asus ROG Strix B450-I Gaming - always been a fan of Asus motherboards, and I think this is the lowest end m-itx board that will support Ryzen 3000 CPUs. Case: NZXT H200 - going m-itx because I do lan parties a lot. Also the h200 has more versatile front I/O than the h210. I'm not really married to this case though. Power supply: EVGA 750 B3 - I basically just went on Newegg and found a cheapish modular power supply. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Ram: 16gb DDR4, though I haven't looked into anything specific. I figured I'd just get whatever had the best deal when I buy everything else. The total price for all that comes to around $600 US, and I'd like to keep it between $500 - $700. I use it primarily for gaming. I have two hard drives, three sata SSDs and an M.2 SSD, so I know with my case option I'll have to ditch one of the spinning drives. I already have all of the peripherals I'll need. I'd appreciate any thoughts, opinions, or other recommendations.
  3. Alright, good to know.
  4. Basically everything that I've read, watched, or seen myself has said that glossy displays have better color quality. I'm fairly sure Linus has even said that in a few of his videos. I will look into the ROG however, thank you.
  5. So I did some googling and this is a question that has been asked a fair amount of times, however the most recent thread I could find was from 2015. I'm in the market for a new monitor, and based on reviews I've read/watched online and my own personal experience, the perfect fit for me would be a 1440p, 120hz, (maybe G-Sync) glossy monitor for gaming. The aforementioned threads I looked through claimed that such a display doesn't exist, but I was wondering if anything new has been released in the past two years that fit the bill? Just for reference, these are the features I am interested in: 2560x1440 resolution 120 - 144 hz refresh rate IPS panel Glossy finish All I know about this is that my Dell XPS 15 laptop has superior color and quality to my desktop monitors, and I believe I read that glossy screens generally have sharper colors than matte. G-Sync (optional)
