  1. after quite a bit of research, some help from a channel called Tech Deals on youtube ( https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCCss3QxegBkF8BAetIo0qXA ) and some realization that I am, infact, kind of dumb, I have found a decent optiplex for 100$ and I will be able to put in a hard drive and power supply, and fly in under 200$ for a very solid computer. from there I'm not sure if I will get the 1050 or the 1050 ti. the computer is here https://www.ebay.com/itm/Dell-Optiplex-990-Intel-Core-i5-2400-3-10GHz-8GB-Ram-No-HDD/172964644853?hash=item28457f07f5:g:FR8AAOSwoR9Z~keu thank you all for helping out, this is what I think I will go with. I may look for one of the newer i5's though
  2. https://www.amazon.com/Optiplex-7010-Processor-Professional-Refurbished/dp/B01LZLPO1H/ref=sr_1_15?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1510013899&sr=1-15&keywords=dell+optiplex https://www.amazon.com/Dell-Performance-Processor-Professional-Certified/dp/B01M4MX7QA/ref=sr_1_13?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1510013899&sr=1-13&keywords=dell+optiplex these two look better for the project, but my question would be which should I get, and would they fit a 1050 or 1050 ti in the case?
  3. this build is for a friend, and he does not really like computers much, so he won't want to do anything over 200 for the computer, and I will be shelling out the money for the graphics card. Its a bit of a christmas gift, but he wouldn't want to go above 200 by much, otherwise, that is a very solid build, and would be prefered if he ever planned to upgrade. as it stands, I was thinking something like this https://www.amazon.com/Dell-Performance-Processor-Professional-Refurbished/dp/B076CVLLNG/ref=sr_1_14?ie=UTF8&qid=1510013237&sr=8-14&keywords=dell+optiplex+i5+full+tower I'm confident I can find something similar for less, but I don't know what i'm looking for. my friend is mostly a console gamer, so trying to upsell for performance isn't going to be an option, i'm trying to beat console graphics for console price, 300 to 350 for the entire computer. from my understanding, prebuilts with a decent gpu have such a high price to performance value at that level that they are hard to beat. sorry for the late reply, I just got off work.
  4. If it is only 25 more I may, but I was seeing closer to 50. I may have just been shopping poorly. Don't know why I forgot those existed. I know that you can check psu wattage, but my concern is that the motherboard may not be able to deliver enough power to the 1050 or 1050ti. I haven't been able to find one I'm comfortable suggesting except 1, but it was a slim tower. I wouldn't want to buy it only to not be able to fit the 1050 in it.
  5. Hello everybody, I've posted a few questions on here, and have all ways had great luck, so thank you in advance for reading. My friend is new to pc gaming, and is willing to buy a 200 dollar pc, and I would pick him up a 1050, but that being said, I have about 0 experience with prebuilts. I know dell optiplex with i5 2400 is usually in this range and very good value, but im not sure what I need to look for to make sure it will work. I will also be needing it to either have wifi, or enough room for a wifi card. My question is what desktop would be good for this?
  6. i don't have access to a windows 7 boot media, i only have windows 10, and ubuntu. i believe the problem is memory related, since this bsod has been following it, and everything else was replaced. though im not sure. and i can't afford new memory for it.
  7. i have recently revamped a poorly done build, replacing most of the parts, leaving only the old power supply and memory, and during my first install of windows, everything went fine, then the windows installer finished, the system rebooted, then during start up an error message saying that the computer restarted unexpectedly came up. ever since, any clean install will bsod, and say system service exeption. i can't get dump files, or any data for that matter, since the computer is brand new, no operating system. the operating system i am trying to add is windows 10 64 bit. i am using an i3 6300k, an asrock b250 pro4 motherboard, evga b600 powersupply (i know it sucks) a single stick of g.skill aegis 8 gb ram (i know it sucks to) and a wd blue 1tb hdd. im going to try installing linux and get back to you guys, but this problem is quite annoying, since windows 10 is needed for many games which this computer will be used for. sorry for poorly wording the post, i may clean it up soon, but im in a rush, two jobs and little time to fix my girlfriends computer. thank you in advance for reading and replying, im sorry i don't have more information, but i cant get any since i have no operating system on the computer
  8. Hello! I have been working on a computer build for quite some time now, and will very soon be able to build it. I have an issue however, I'm not very well versed in gaming mice, most of my focus has been on researching other hardware, and have run into a stumbling block. I am currently using a logitech g700 mouse, and I absolutely love the button placement. It has four buttons on the left side, and three buttons on the upper left, near the left mouse button. this lets me off load some of the actions from my thumb onto my pointer finger, and I love it. The mouse feels natural, and I would stick with it, if not for the fact that it is extremely old, and came to me used, as such, many of the buttons are non-functioning, and the others, are a little sluggish/sticky. My question is this, is there a good, current gaming mouse using the three mouse buttons near the pointer finger design, and includes four or more side buttons? I am looking at the corsair scimitar for the sheer number of buttons for macros, but I like the logitech g700 because I find myself jumping between mobas, fps games, starbound, top down strategy games, and esports games, and the logitech, while not exceptional at any, is good/ or great at all, and also runs comfortably for use as a desktop computer mouse. The extra buttons being out of the way just feel better, and I like being able to seperate the 'if I hit this button I will waste some extremely important cooldown' buttons from the 'if I hit this button I will crouch slightly for a quarter of a second' buttons. Another advantage is the fact that I don't have to pay as much attention to the mouse, since the buttons are actuated with different fingers, and don't require a huge amount of muscle memory. another small, though nearly insignificant difference is the connectivity. the logitech g700 is both wireless and wired (I did not recieve the wireless dongle for the mouse, and am quite sad about that.). In short, I am highly considering buying a second logitech g700, though I would prefer an updated design, or, if there is some major shortcoming to the logitech, a corsair scimitar, though I believe I would be unhappy with it. If there is any guidance I can get on where to find a similarly laid out mouse, I would much appreciate it.
  9. probably not, the case rgb and the ram seem fine, i think i may put a strip inside the case if anything. the case has all the fans i need for now, and rgb fans would be a future upgrade
  10. do you think their are any other changes you would make?
  11. ok, thanks everyone for your imput, im going to be changing out quite a few parts, and will be posting a completed build some time in the next month or so once i get paychecks! also, hit solved while trying to thumb up... stupid laptop. would have had to mark it solved anyway.
  12. is there a reason for the move away from the 850 evo? i have heard many good things about it, and would like to keep it as my m.2 boot drive, but if there is a good reason to move i will. the hdd is one of the two i was looking at, the other being the wd black, for reliability, but i dont think i will go that direction. as for the cpu cooler, ive had the dark rock 3 suggested to me, but i have also seen some pretty good benchmarks for the corsair aio, and have never done liquid cooling before, so it would be a first.
  13. https://pcpartpicker.com/list/39G4kT current parts list (there are to 1080ti's just to see if i could eventually move to sli if it gets better in the future)
  14. haven't seen the tier list yet, thanks
  15. the gskill looks nicer imo, and is asus aura compatable, as well as the case, which i like. for the most part, yes, gaming, and the power supply is something i will look into, but i have to ask, what is bad about the power supply? also, the hdd will be bought once i run out of storage. 240 is plenty for the time being
