  1. Hi all. I've taken a small dive into CPU overclocking and I got my 6700K to 4.6 GHz using a fixed Vcore in my BIOS of 1.315V and Gigabyte's "high" LLC setting. I'm pretty satisfied with this overclock, since my chip doesn't seem to want to be stable at 4.7 GHz or higher, but I'm a bit concerned about having 1.315V being passed to the CPU at all times, even when using the "Balanced" power plan in Windows and having Speedstep turned on. What would be the strategy for converting my stable overclock Vcore to an offset, if that's advantageous? Thanks in advance!
  2. Yes, I intend to use PiHole to block ads and malicious sites. Because I've had IPv6 for a while now, I thought it wouldn't make sense to move back to a solely IPv4 config. Would it be better to disable IPv6 on my router altogether if I want to continue using a PiHole? Thanks again for the replies.
  3. Hi all. I've been configuring a PiHole for the past few days and I've got it up and running. However, I was a little concerned about IPv6. I'm not very knowledgeable about IPv6, so I apologize in advance if I'm noobish, but is it possible to setup a static IPv6 address, at least locally? For IPv4 everything is working fine and I've a static IPv4. One more thing, if this matters, I'm currently using an AirPort Extreme 6th generation as my router and Comcast as my ISP. Thanks in advance!
  4. Hi all. I've been trying out this guide and I had it working network wide. But one question came to my head, security. Is there a way to use a firewall or something to only allow HTTP, SSH, and other essential ports or encrypt the queries going to and from the Pi-hole?
  5. Thank you for your advice. I think I'll try the third option, just as you said to not have to worry about fan profiles.
  6. Hi all. My PC currently has a Cooler Master Hyper 212 Black Edition with two Corsair ML120 PWM fans hooked up for a push pull config. I connected one fan to the main CPU header and the other to the CPU_OPT, on my Gigabyte Z170XP-SLI mobo. Whenever I load up my BIOS or HWInfo, the CPU_OPT fan runs about 1000RPM faster than the fan connected to CPU, and the fan curve for CPU_OPT didn't look to have as much granularity as the main fan. I expected either fan to not be at exactly the same speeds, but I never thought that one would be this much faster than the other. How could I get them to closer match their speeds? Perhaps a fan splitter coming off of the main CPU header? Thanks in advance.
  7. Hello! Long story short, my PC has been starting up with black screens. It started a few days ago out of the blue while I was using my PC. I've tried reseating power cables, GPU, and RAM, using the second PCIE slot, using the iGPU, running chkdsk and sfc, running DDU to get rid of drivers, and resetting BIOS/changing some settings regarding graphics. I've also checked my cables and monitor, they look fine. Additionally, the iGPU worked for a while until today. Now it's having the same problem as my discrete GPU. I also tried another GPU in slot one and it booted with no issues. Here's my PC specs: https://pcpartpicker.com/user/CoolPCBuilds/saved/3WDLrH Thank you! Edit: When I was using the iGPU, I was using the latest Intel DCH drivers, and when the PC became problematic again, I uninstalled the driver and tried again with the same version, but no luck.
  8. Hi. Lately I have come across errors regarding other users being able to login. When I go to login to my user account, I didn't see other user accounts show up in the lower left of the login screen or Start Menu. Currently my PC is running Windows 10 Home 64-bit Version 1607 Build 14393.693. To provide some context, I was trying to fix an error with a user account. It pulled up a window that said "We can't sign into your account" after logging in. I tried a few guides that showed a possible fix for it, using the registry, navigating to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\ProfileList and editing a few files in it, particularly ProfileImagePath to the correct user key, RefCount, State, and switching around two corresponding keys in ProfileList, with one having a .bak ending based on a guide from Microsoft. (RefCount and State weren't edited) After I did that and restarted, I found that I couldn't login to my user account, only the affected user account. I did a system restore from Control Panel and found that it didn't bring back the other users in the login page. I found that the users folder looks to be unaffected, with the user folders still there, and I could still see/manage the other user accounts in Control Panel. I tried sfc /scannow and chkdsk /f, none of which detected errors. I'm thinking about using Automatic Repair, System Restore in Safe Mode/System Recovery, using an old registry backup and pulling the appropriate key (ProfileList or something), use this YouTube video on fixing Windows 10 startup problems, and if worst comes to worst, reinstall Windows and hopefully keep something. Are there any more options I could use to fix this issue? Out of this situation, I now have something to reflect upon that would help me remember to keep backups and failsafes more often. If I do manage to pull myself out of this pickle, if another user account gets the "We can't sign into your account" dialog, I'm thinking that deleting the user account and transferring the old data to the new account would be a better option. With sincere thanks, NoobTechUser
