  1. Im stuck between the two models. MSI 17.3" GS73VR Stealth Pro Notebook and Sager NP8372. What I am interested in is not a tech comparison, but a brand comparison. I hear good things about Sager, but they have a terrible BBB Rating and There's just not alot of reviews on Sager laptops. Can anyone give any confidence in them over MSI?
  2. I just switchedfrom an RX480 to a GTX 1070 to find out that NVIDIA's software doesn't seem to have an option to force antialiasing on older games like the Crimson software does. Either that or I am missing it. Am I missing it? Is there a way with the NVIDIA software to force antialiasing when older games dont give it as an option?
  3. Drivers and driver packages have always confused me. Whats the best way to start clean? uninstall all drivers and download the radeon relive and let it do all the work?
  4. I decided I wanted to try and sell my Sapphire Nitro RX480 4GB and so I wanted to get some Heaven benchmarks to help sell. I know its an old benchmark, but its an older card so why not? The results were not what I had gotten in the past nor what I am seeing others get. I seem to be about 20fps lower, in general, from those running similar clock speeds. Any idea what might be causing this? Here is all the info I can think to give. I will also supply my benchmark results using different AA settings below. GPU Temps stayed in the hi 60s since I have my fan curve adjusted a slight bit. I use DX12 in The Division but otherwise I don't. I don't know if DX11/12 is an issue with Heaven or not. Thoughts? Ideas? Help? 5. Does the use of a battery backup affect GPU performance (or any performance for that matter)? I wouldn't think that it would but as soon as I installed one I noticed some dips in framerate, like from 60 to 30. Not constant. Like it will dip down and go back up. I didnt know if the regulation of power by the backup would have anything to do with that
  6. I agree, but at these prices i dont have much room for trial and error learning , especially when spending my boss' money
  7. Yes, I have. I've even got them collaborating with my IT guys. But I came here because: 1. Dont fully trust salesmen, even though its a necessary conversation. 2. My IT guys dont really understand video editing 3. I want to learn, and while every answer given here is not the correct one it helps me begin to understand the field
  8. I understand. But I think we are talking preference. I have a laptop I edit off of as a backup, so that scenario is not a concern. That being said, I understand your point. But I hope we can stay on topic here and talk about the NAS.
  9. Again, did I accidentally infer that I was not going to include vendor support? Keep in mind I am listing my PC specs so that you will know its speed capabilities. The NAS is not being pieced together.
  10. Did I accidentally imply that I was going to build my own SAN or NAS? Haha! Not even close! I am looking for a guiding light and will def go with enterprise level gear with support. Geeking out over tech and whats cheapest is not my desired conversation. Though, each of those, still has a part in it.
  11. Hi there, and thanks for the reply! Regarding AVID vs Adobe, I am not making long videos or will that ever become part of the workflow. We make videos from 30 sec spots to 5min recaps. Plus, as I understand it, AVID has a MAJOR learning curve and I think the AVID machines are very expensive. We are still very grassroots here, but I am trying to push us forward in our thinking. Help me understand what you mean about "buy video editing equipment." In the end, is it not all the same, while keeping budget in mind? If I have $5k to spend on an editing computer, I am not going to get an overpriced Mac. I am going to custom build and save $1500. Plus, I have lifetime warranty on it. And whats a "gaming machine" anyway? Its just a really fast computer, no? I bought an 8 core 16 thread CPU. Within that price range, I am not so sure I have any better options. (Maybe I do, I just didn't know about them). This is for business - as I stated - it's for a somewhat grassroots company who is growing. Im trying to future proof this somewhat while not having to ask for $100k + 1Gb vs 10Gb - so you are saying, if I understand you correctly, there would be no need for a 10Gb PCIe adapter, locally? Why is this? Even with 2 or 3 users (eventually), is there no need for SSD drives for the NAS? To my understanding, its just sending and receiving information for the most part, but doesnt the increased write speeds help decrease, by alot, my render times? Again, thanks for the reply, and forgive me if my questions are elementary, I am still a "layperson" when it comes to some of this.
  12. Thank you all for your replies. I should mention that we keep footage from up to 5 years back that is needed at any given time. So editing locally just isnt an option. Moving footage back and forth just isnt an option. While and editing NAS may not be as fast as a local edit, I am trying to find the best NAS option I can.
