  1. Anyway going to sleep now. Hopefully somebody can hold my hand through this lol.
  2. OK. So I want a 6700K? How can I tell what motherboard, memory, and graphics cards are compatible? I cannot seem to "build" anything on this pcpartpicker site for less than $3000
  3. As I said in the post, by stealth I mean not visually a gamer machine. Its fine if it isn't quiet.
  4. Also I am finding Intel's product naming scheme confusing. Why is a an i7 6700K less expensive than an i7 3770K?
  5. Thanks for the reply. This site also seems very useful. To be honest I'm pretty overwhelmed by the amount of choice in PC parts. And I'm worried about what is going to be compatible with what. I also don't really know what a new equivalent means. The same spec but newer, or the same price but newer?
  6. Hi! This will be my first time ever building a PC, so if this post is incomplete or in the wrong place, please let me know. Sorry! Budget and Location: BC Canada. My total budget (case, parts, and peripherals) is $2000 CDN but I would prefer to spend less than $1500. I already have a good mouse and xbone controller. Aim: I call this a stealth build as it will be sitting in my family's living room and can't look like a B-2 Spirit Bomber. At least on the outside. i would like to be able to play more modern titles like Dark Souls III, Battlefield 4, Rainbow Six: Siege, Far Cry 3, and new Forza titles. I would also like to play some more CPU intensive games like Cities Skylines and Stellaris. My laptop has a 1440p monitor and the internet here isn't even good enough to play youtube videos at that quality (even plugged directly into the wall ethernet port) so I think I will be happy with a 1080p monitor, especially one with good colours and blacks. I would like to keep the build simple as this will be my first ever PC build. I am OK with running games on medium to low settings so long as the framerate is consistent and I can have a good FOV and long render distance. Hopefully this wasn't too garbled to understand. Peripherals: I need a keyboard that is durable but not loud or overly large, especially not too tall. I would like a full keyboard with numpad ideally. As for a monitor I would prefer larger than 20inch but smaller than 30inch. For a case I would like something easy to clean with good airflow. It doesn't need to be quiet. Weird request but I would prefer the word "gaming" or obviously related not be on the case or motherboard. I would also like a dual drive setup, with a small SSD and a larger HDD. Why I am upgrading: Currently my specs are NVIDIA 840 graphics, 900p monitor, and 2.00ghz dual core intel processor. I have been pretty satisfied with playing older titles for the last five years or so but my PC is slowly dying in the most frustrating ways possible. RIP. But I figured I could kill several birds (Upgrade, replacement, and to have a desktop computer in the house other people can use freely and easily) with one stone. Anyway sorry for not knowing ANYTHING about ANYTHING, hopefully I can at least get some good instructions, suggestions, and advice. If my budget is too low, I would still like to see what kind of hardware I need, so I can continue saving. I do not want to compromise and would prefer to just wait. What (I think) I want in short: 4-6 GB of VRAM. 12-16 GB RAM. Quad core processor. Not particularly enamored with overclocking. 1080p 60hz monitor. Maybe OLED? Full keyboard. 256GB SSD + 1TB HDD. Sockets for both USB 2 and USB 3.
  7. Thanks so much! I did the "How long does it take to restart and get to facebook" test with my laptop and she was pretty convinced.
  8. The PC is only a couple years old, it was just cheap ($500CDN at best buy). I think I will be buying a sandisk sata 3 drive.
  9. How about powering the SSD? Will I need to buy a power cable?
  10. Thank you for the reply. The PC tower says "AMD A6". Does being AMD rather than intel make a difference in terms of compatibility?
  11. My grandmother bought an Acer Aspire PC a couple years ago, and is still only using about 20GB of the 930GB of storage. She often turns the computer on and off (even though I explained that she doesn't have to), so I asked her if she would be interested in replacing the drive with a smaller faster one and she said yes. Is it even possible to replace the hard drive in these compact towers? Should I get 128GB or 256 just in case? Is it worth it to spend hundreds of dollars upgrading an old tower? I haven't even taken the thing apart yet. I've heard PC building is like Lego except you have to ground yourself, but like compact cars, I wonder if replacements will be impossible due to packaging. Alternatively, is there a compact PC on the market (Specifically BC, Canada) with a small SSD and a good (real i5 or better) processor and more graphics than none at all? Sorry if this is completely the wrong place to post this.
  12. After looking at a couple of other options, bought a base model "New Razer Blade". Thanks for your input!
  13. Their website says the stock is limited on the $1,399 QHD touchscreen model, but clicking the "Add to cart" button brings up an empty shopping cart. Any idea what the problem might be? The cart works fine for the 4K models.
  14. Wow this is fantastic. Do you know what kind of display it is? Like OLED etc, it doesn't seem to say on the product page.
