  1. I should also add that the parts in that computer besides the PSU were free.
  2. I used this mainly as a learning experience; these parts are just temporary and allowed me to get more comfortable with actually building and more importantly setting up after assembly (OS, BIOS/UEFI settings, driver updates, etc.).
  3. It's actually just some parts I found that happened to work. I'm not really intending to use this system but it actually runs. I just installed Linux on it and messed around. I think it was great practice for building though, besides the fact that it's pretty old lol.
  4. MS-6734 (v1.X) M-ATX Mainboard, BFG Technologies Nvidia GeForce FX 5200, AMD Athlon XP 3000+, 2x512MB DDR-333MHz, all inside the Zalman Z11 NEO
  5. I understand that some Intels are better but I'm not overclocking a non-k Intel and the price just doesn't work with how much money I have
  6. Update: went with much better single-thread rated AMD https://pcpartpicker.com/list/vzL2TH
  7. So apparently toshiba is nasty about this, and since Windows came pre-installed, they actually won't let me download the ISO. RIP.
  8. At this point, there are a lot of options and I haven't even looked at all of NewEgg's nice combo deals, but I'd really like to find a better balance between GPU and CPU performance.
  9. I have muster in about 5 hours so I'm about to crash, but as of right now, I have this: https://pcpartpicker.com/user/mattholmes134/saved/sh3NGX but at the same time, NewEgg is offering a combo on the Zed-170 board + the 6600k for $315, so that sounds pretty good but leaves only $200 for RAM and GPU
  10. what's wrong with the LEPA? It's barely more than a Hyper 212 Evo and the point of the 2x4GB ram is to keep cost down but keep 2 slots open for more in the future. If anything, I'd get one cheap 8GB stick with good speed, but again the cost has to be around $500
  11. What I'm not understanding is why the 6600k currently costs more than the 7600k if it's not as capable, and why the 7600k wouldn't work on a Zed-170 board
  12. with this: https://pcpartpicker.com/user/mattholmes134/saved/sh3NGX If I can find a decent GPU for cheaper it might work
  13. So far for an Intel build I have this: https://pcpartpicker.com/user/mattholmes134/saved/sh3NGX
  14. The 1050 Ti is still cheaper, but this is what I'm working on with the Intel recommendation: https://pcpartpicker.com/user/mattholmes134/saved/sh3NGX
  15. I really don't want to take the risk of overclocking a non-K Intel chip, especially when they cost more to begin with.
