  1. Brave and Firefox were able to prompt you to change it within their apps because they had reverse engineered the hashing algorithm used to prevent it previously. With this new driver level block, that will no longer work. The only thing that would make this okay in my mind is if they added a browser choice menu to the OOBE when you install both Windows afresh or when installing the update. Samsung/Google have managed it in Android 14. But instead I would imagine Microsoft will default to pushing OneDrive and Office365 subscriptions, and pinning shortcuts to CandyCrush to the start menu
  2. Summary Microsoft is now blocking changes to the default browser at a driver level. The driver cannot be removed, and if disabled will be re-enabled upon system restart. Quotes My thoughts It is speculated that Microsoft have introduced this to comply with the European Digital Markets Act in order to stop shady practices of other browsers being able to make themselves the default browser outside of Windows Settings. However this driver has been spotted on machines outside of the EU, so that casts doubt on that theory. Having seen Microsoft make Edge worse and worse in terms of dark patterns and trying to force everyone to use Edge, I feel this is actually yet another mechanism to prevent people switching. While not being able to change the default browser anywhere other than in the Windows Settings panel is good to prevent hijacking by other browsers or by malware, its an extra step that those who arent that tech savvy may not realise they have to take. Yet another hurdle in the path to using a 3rd party browser. its worth noting that the same applies to file type associations including .pdf Sources https://www.bleepingcomputer.com/news/microsoft/new-windows-driver-blocks-software-from-changing-default-web-browser/
  3. Youtube channel Installation00 has received multiple fraudulent copyright claims from 3rd party companies that are not the original copyright holder, nor associated with them. Installation00's main library of music comes from the Halo content they cover. Which is owned by Microsoft and is released under their Game Content Usage Rules policy with permission for content creators to make monetised content. One of these companies is Sony Music Publishing. Not only are their claims against Microsoft's IP, there are also fraudulent claims against music in the public domain. Herman Li from Dragonforce also recently published a video on TikTok explaining that the DragonForce YouTube channel had also reciev3d fraudulent copyright claims for their own music! Youtube's copyright system is completely broken, and allows for illicit 3rd parties to abuse the system and damage the incomes of smaller creators. Installation00 has notified Microsoft of the infringements of their IP, so we may see another legal battle between Sony and Microsoft soon enough Sources
  4. Ah I see. It looks like the Ryzen 4500U has the chipset built into the processor, which explains why there isn't a seperate driver for it on their website. You could try using AMD's graphics install instead of Windows Update or HPs driver. From what I remember, it has the ability to update the chipset and other IO stuff as well as the GPU https://www.amd.com/en/support Then download and run the auto detect software
  5. Yea I've had to deal with HPs website for a Pavillion laptop before, so I cannunderstand your frustrations with it. What is the model number for your laptop? I assume you're still on 22H2?
  6. Fractal have offered to send me a new fan. But I'm unsure if I want to bother as it means removing the original, which means removing it from the header on the motherboard. Easy to remove, but a huge pain to plug back in now the cpu cooler is installed. I might just put up with not using the PSU strip since I have to send them evidence that I've destroyed the fan before they'll send me the new one, meaning I'll be 3-4 days without an intake fan
  7. It flickers even with static colours, and there's only around 20 leds
  8. There's a total of about 20 LEDs, 6 on each of the fans and around 6-8 on the PSU strip. I've unplugged the PSU strip for now
  9. Might be worth grabbing the latest chipset driver from HP's website too. I've had weird audio issues before and found they were fixed after the chipset drivers were installed
  10. Now that I've installed the CPU cooler and the RAM, it's practically impossible to get a different cable onto the ARGB header, so I'd probably have to go for something that connects to a USB 2.0 header. There could potentially be a BIOS update that may change something
  11. I recently built in a Fractal Torrent Nano. I've plugged the front ARGB fan into the 5v 3pin ARGB header on my Aorus B550i AX motherboard and it works fine. I then daisy chain the rear fan to it and it also works fine. But if I add the led strip that's on the PSU shroud, the front fan RGB flickers every so often. If I remove the rear fan and just use the front fan and the RGB strip then it's fine. And if I use just the fans, it's fine. It's only if I connect all 3 that I have issues. The header on the motherboard is capable of supplying 3A, and according to Fractal, the fans should only take 0.6A and 0.3A for their RGB. So unless the PSU strip takes over 2A, it shouldn't be the number of devices that are the issue. I've opened a support ticket with Fractal, but I was wondering if anyone here had any suggeetions
  12. Any reason why you're trying to install the .cab directly instead of via Windows Update? That error code is usually from the update database not matching what the MS servers are expecting (missing something it thinks you have already etc). Some people have had success with deleting or renaming the SoftwareDistribution folder in your Windows directory, but that was for a direct Windows Update issue and may not fix your specific problem. It's always best to either let Windows Update handle the driver install, or download the driver from the manufacturer. Edit: I assume you're running Powershell/CMD as administrator?
  13. I haven't played Rust myself in over a year. But I do follow Memeio on YT. He's shown off several glitches/exploits that cause other players to crash. No idea if these issues have been patched yet or not but FacePunch are usually pretty good at getting them fixed pretty quickly. Does your game crash if you join an empty server? Are you interacting with anything when it crashes?
  14. Hi everyone. The Oracle Java JRE download links are broken. It just shows "Invalid argument" when I click any of the links. Happens in Chrome and Edge in Win11 and on my Fold3. Any ideas? EDIT: Nevermind, I downloaded it from Softonic
  15. I'm thinking it's probably worth avoiding the headaches and building seperate machines. I'm intrigued by the technical aspects of running unraid vm's, but not sure having to boot her pc via WOL through an app on her phone would have the wife approval. I still love the idea of being able to allocate resources. Playing together? Share equally. Me playing Cities Skylines while my wife plays Minecraft? I'll have some extra RAM. I guess I'll have to settle for getting myself a new case for my machine instead
