  1. Thanks, sorry for the late reply. Are there any consequences to my old SSHD drive not being activated anymore, like programs or files being inaccessible?
  2. Hey guys, I've got a few questions about Windows 8.1, and a couple of odd ones, so bear with me for a second while i'm explaining the scenario. I own a 2013 laptop with an installation of windows 8.1, which i use for everything from school to gaming to photoshop-bumblefuckery. It's not especially powerful, but it suffices in most cases... Or at least it did. The SSHD i've got in my laptop is a 750gb, 5400rpm 2.5" drive, and it's sucking. Hard. I'm fairly certain my drive is going to die somewhere in the next 2 weeks, and i'm looking to re-install my version of Windows 8.1 on a new hard drive, a 1TB SSD. When i say "re-install", i mean a complete re-install of windows 8.1, no file transfers, no old caches that have to be copied, a fresh, new installation. I've backed up everything aside from the OS itself, just in case my HDD dies quicker than expected. The questions: - How do i install and activate a new version of windows 8.1 on a new drive, without cloning the old one, presumably using my existing licence? - Are there still any windows-10-upgrade items active on the latest version of windows 8.1? (I'm running a 2014 version of windows 8.1... I despise updates. -_-) I'm not really expecting a full guide running me through the process, but anything from a link to a pre-existing guide, a youtube video, or even just a shove in the general direction of what i'm looking for would be much-appreciated! Cheers guys, and thanks in advance!
  3. So, any advice on a low end PSU like that, or should i just get one of the cheaper ones of recognised brand? (Even though i know brands don't mean much... :/)
  4. I'm building a desktop PC for my grandmother, and i'm kind of unsure with what PSU to go with. The estimated power draw is around 220-250 Watts, so a 350 might be damn overkill as well. Rough Specs: Integrated graphics, Intel Pentium G4560, 8gb RAM, 500GB SSD. (I know, i know, SSD and 8gb RAM are overkill, got the budget, don't care much about overkill on those two.) Thanks for the help. Cheers lads!
  5. Hello everyone, I'm looking into swapping out the HDD in my laptop, and replace it with an SSD (500gb). Now, i heard about optical hdd/ssd caddies for laptops, and i was wondering if i would run into any problems, specifically when it comes to temperatures, if i shoved my old HDD in a caddy?... Not sure how much it matters, but the HDD in question is the "ST750LM000-1EJ16G" drive, laptop is the ASUS N56JN-CN038H. Currently, my drive doesn't hit much over 50/55 degrees celsius, but as a caddy would completely enclose the thing, i'm wondering if that temperature would go up, or if it could influence the temps on FI my CPU/GPU? Cheers! :3
  6. Oh well, i'm just gonna google this in that case... Seems like there's more research to be done. :3
  7. 404 logic not found. Seriously, why not just stick to the ACTUAL speed, along with the (G)DDR identifier? T_T
  8. I'll take a look around just to be sure, thanks. And Apple being picky is nothing new to my ears... Just take a look at the price of an IMac. Even i can create a build that outperforms it for less than 80% of it's price.
  9. Sometimes i just wish that sometimes, just sometimes logic applied when it comes to hardware, but alas...
  10. Oh, so DDR2 @800 actual, would be 800 effective, while ddr3 would be 1600 effective. Thanks.
  11. Oh, i was under the impression that it just wouldn't run... Well, in that case, that settles it. :3 Another question, actually, have you ever heard of Muskin Apple ram? o-0 Seems a bit shady, and i'm not gonna buy it as the crucial variant of the same type, which i need, is only 11 bucks more expensive, but still... Thanks. ;)
  12. I just found that out, in Speccy, after the mhz, it listed PC3-12800, which refers to 1600mhz memory. Thanks either way, as this actually confirms my suspicions! Cheers mate, thanks a lot! :3
  13. Hi everyone, I am looking for RAM sticks to upgrade my laptop with. The laptop in questions is an Asus N56JN-CN038H. The current ram: ASU16D3LS1KFG/4G These sticks are 800MHz, and i am unable to find any seller in the Netherlands that has 2x8gb SO-DIMM DDR3 RAM @800MHz and 1.35 volts. So i was wondering exactly how bad of an idea it is to just buy 1600MHz ram, at 1.35 volts. :3 I'm just looking for a bit of added info, like whether 8gb sticks on 800mhz even exist, where to find them, maybe the maximum mhz supported by my laptop at 1.35mhz, product numbers of examples, etc. Basically, whatever relevant info you have to add, add it, because i'd like to hear it. Cheers!
  14. Hm, yeah, so the covers seem to be glued to the fucking processors, and it appears to be really stuck. I'm rather hesitant to apply any kind of force on it, as the processors are glued to the board. ... Do absolutely have to clean out the stuff underneath the covers, because i fear that at this point, removing them could do more harm than good. :\
  15. So, if i understand it correctly, i'm to clean the ENTIRE processor of the old shite? Also, do i surround the metallic top of the processors with thermal paste as well, or do i cover just the metallic cover with it? EDIT: I should have added that the tops are actually mirror finished.
