  1. So I am trying to display content from my laptop and/or Apple TV on a Phillips 30PW850H 30" HDTV. The only output of my Apple TV is HDMI and the TV only has component cables. I ordered a cheap HDMI to component converter box that does. It seems to be working. I can get audio, but the video that comes through is smushed in one corner and then copied and cropped in the other corner, hard to explain but I'll try and attach a picture. Any help is appreciated.
  2. I have an evga FTW 1080 gtx. I originally had a different one on that list so I deleted it and added my already purchased CPU as a custom part at the bottom. Only one gpu for now, but I want a power supply that will be able to handle 2 high end video cards. It sounds like this might be the PSU for me. I'm so pumped to finally get this build going!
  3. Yep. I had already bought this before Ryzen I was going to have this build done in January, but the money took months to get from the states treasury department it was wild.
  4. Finally ordering he last parts for this build, pretty much just have the PSU left. Since it's my first build I wanted to make sure to run it by some more experienced eyes PCPartPicker part list / Price breakdown by merchant CPU: Intel - Core i7-6800K 3.4GHz 6-Core Processor (Purchased For $402.49) Thermal Compound: Arctic Silver - 5 High-Density Polysynthetic Silver 3.5g Thermal Paste ($7.18 @ Amazon) Motherboard: Asus - X99-DELUXE II ATX LGA2011-3 Motherboard (Purchased For $402.49) Memory: Corsair - Vengeance LED 32GB (4 x 8GB) DDR4-2666 Memory (Purchased For $222.59) Storage: Samsung - 960 EVO 250GB M.2-2280 Solid State Drive ($130.00) Storage: Seagate - BarraCuda 1TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive ($45.88 @ OutletPC) Power Supply: EVGA - SuperNOVA G2 750W 80+ Gold Certified Fully-Modular ATX Power Supply ($99.89 @ OutletPC) Operating System: Microsoft - Windows 10 Pro OEM 64-bit ($132.89 @ OutletPC) Other: Genome case and cooling (Purchased For $300.00) Other: EVGA FTW 1080 GTX (Purchased For $500.00) Total: $2243.41 Prices include shipping, taxes, and discounts when available Generated by PCPartPicker 2017-05-31 09:28 EDT-0400
  5. I am in a similar situation as you. I just graduated with a music degree and I am now interested in learning some coding skills to try and combine those two fields somehow (lots of VR ideas). I have been dabbling on codecademy.com for about a year. More experienced users on the forum might be able to attest to its benefit or lack there of, but it is free and you can at least practice some projects and learn some terminology. However, I am also interested into how this thread will develop because I think there might be more detailed sources than codecademy.
  6. I was just dissecting an old lap top (HP pavilion dv2 1039wm) and found a mysterious connection that I can't find information on. If I had to guess it looks like a spot for a wireless card, but there is already a wireless card installed on another spot. It's located right next to the ram. I'm assuming it'll be pretty obvious to somebody here. I was also wondering what I could put in the slot that would be useful. I just use this as a Linux machine to do random web browsing and word processing.
  7. Possibly a pretty noob question but here it goes: I just ordered this memory kit http://www.bestbuy.com/site/corsair-vengeance-4-pack-8gb-pc4-21300-ddr4-dimm-unbuffered-non-ecc-desktop-memory-kit-black/5580492.p?skuId=5580492&cmp=RMX then I realized that 2666mHz was higher than intel's recommended speed. Will this break my warranty? I am currently buying parts from this list PCPartPicker part list / Price breakdown by merchant CPU: Intel Core i7-6800K 3.4GHz 6-Core Processor (Purchased For $402.49) Thermal Compound: Arctic Silver 5 High-Density Polysynthetic Silver 3.5g Thermal Paste ($5.99 @ Amazon) Motherboard: Asus X99-DELUXE II ATX LGA2011-3 Motherboard (Purchased For $402.49) Memory: Corsair Vengeance LED 32GB (4 x 8GB) DDR4-2666 Memory (Purchased For $222.59) Storage: Samsung 960 Evo 250GB M.2-2280 Solid State Drive ($129.99 @ B&H) Storage: Seagate Barracuda 3TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive ($92.88 @ OutletPC) Video Card: EVGA GeForce GTX 1080 8GB Superclocked Gaming ACX 3.0 Video Card ($589.89 @ B&H) Power Supply: EVGA 650W 80+ Gold Certified Semi-Modular ATX Power Supply ($78.99 @ SuperBiiz) Operating System: Microsoft Windows 10 Pro OEM 64-bit ($129.77 @ OutletPC) Other: Genome case and cooling (Purchased For $0.00) Total: $2055.08 Prices include shipping, taxes, and discounts when available Generated by PCPartPicker 2017-01-28 02:02 EST-0500 Should I cancel the order and get a different memory kit?
  8. I was looking more into the MSI X99A GAMING 7 ATX LGA2011-3 Motherboard that you had recommended, and It looks really nice (especially some of the audio features it comes with). Is there going to be a big difference between that board and the x99 Sabertooth? It seemed like the Sabertooth might be a little more built for a workstation than a gaming motherboard (which is kind of what I'm after), although I don't know if the difference is really big enough to care that much. I'm mainly worried about windows 10 and modern drivers having issues with either of these boards.
  9. How about this build? 10. Haha my cancellation went through so I am just going to reorder the mobo once they refund the money for the order. This build is taking so long!!! Thanks for your help. I'm going to work on a new parts list later today and I'll post it up here again.
  11. haha wow, I definitely don't plan on anything like that. I was thinking about if I possibly wanted to buy an audio interface for music recording that connects with PCI. I already ordered the sabertooth x99 last night. I tried to cancel it as soon as I saw these posts, but it might not work. If I chose the 6800k over the 5820k that would mean a change in motherboard as well?
  12. Thanks to everybody for the replies! I had posted in some other forums and got 0 responses so I wasn't expecting so many. I have a lot to rethink now.
  13. This was the main reason I wanted to consult a forum. The main reason I originally chose the 6850k was for the 40 PCI lanes, but I may be over thinking how many lanes I will actually need. Other than that, what would the difference be between a 6800k and a 5820k?
