  1. Hello everyone, I have decided to get a home ai for my parents (definitely not techy). I looked and seemed it's gonna be between Amazon's Alexa systems or Google's Home Assistant. We do have a Samsung smart TV, so I would want the Ai to be able to control the TV without needing extra devices to allow that. I am unsure if this is correct area to post, so mods feel free to move my post to the right area. Which eco system, or speaker would you guys recommend as an entry device into the Home Ai? (Google or Alexa). I know about the Apple Home, but it's out of my christmas budget range and appears to be harder to obtain
  2. okay, I believe that's still under safe zones of use. This is a more entry level laptop for her to get started into video editing and such, with full intention of me building her a rig later on. But thanks, that helps a good amount
  3. I wass gonna have her upgrade to 16gb of ram later as well. But how hot is hot? I saw many videos mentioning that, and for the display figure'd I'd find a more colour accurate display since it's hard to find 1 at the price point
  4. Currently still helping my friend in SA and came across what appears to be a solid machine. Ryzen 5 4600H 8gb ram (1x8gb) 256gb nvme ssd(with room for another nvme ssd) Nvidia gtx 1650 4gb All for about 17000 Rand. Upon looking at reviews, it mentions that this laptop has had issues with thermals and the display being bad for colour accuracy. My friend is going to be using it for video and photo editing and possibly light gaming. Questions: 1. How good are the Ryzen 4th gen CPU vs Intel CPUs 2. Are the thermals that brutal, as SA is a warm place? 3. Any recommendations for colour accurate monitors in South Africa? 4. Any information on how good the Asus tuf a15 is? Thank you Asus Tuf A15
  5. This is what I was thinking. And upgrading to an ssd down the road is doable compared to the CPU itself. Ty
  6. Hey guys, I don't know if this is the right section..I'm helping a friend get a new laptop on a budget. She lives in S. Africa so it was definitely a pain to find a decent laptop. With potentially no upgrades in the future I narrowed it down to 2 choices. Choice 1) https://www.incredible.co.za/asus-vivobook-15-15-6-ryzen-5-3500u-8gb-512gb-ssd-notebook-grey Obvious pro is that it has an SSD. but idk how well that CPU and Apu will handle medium to heavy video and picture editing. Choice 2)https://www.incredible.co.za/hp-15-i5-10210u-8gb-1tb-silver-notebook Pro: According to benchmarks, this cpu is 20% faster than the Ryzen cpu on the Asus listed above. Con: HDD instead of SSD. My question is: What is actually the better option to get? Is not having a ssd for video editing and photo editing going to hurt compared to having a faster cpu?
  7. Bro doesn't want to go with Ryzen. Had bad experiences with AMD in the past and prefers Intel. And the adaptor is jacked up for US pricing, but cheaper in Canada for some reason.
  8. Building a PC for my brother in Grad School. It's going to be primarily used for Rhino 3d, which doesn't need a hefty amount of power, but does require some. Just wondering if there's any parts you fine folks would recommend, since I haven't built a Pc in about a year and haven't kept up to the latest stuff.. May swap the HYPER 212x out for a Cryorig h7. Prices are in USD, as my brother will be slowly buying parts in the US and ofc on Black Friday/Cyber Monday Budget is Flexible: But max ~1200$ USD PCPartPicker part list / Price breakdown by merchant CPU: Intel - Core i3-8350K 4GHz Quad-Core Processor ($169.00 @ Amazon) CPU Cooler: Cooler Master - Hyper 212X 82.9 CFM CPU Cooler ($34.89 @ OutletPC) Motherboard: MSI - Z370 TOMAHAWK ATX LGA1151 Motherboard ($123.98 @ Newegg Business) Memory: Kingston - FURY 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR4-2400 Memory ($154.87 @ OutletPC) Storage: Samsung - 860 Evo 500GB 2.5" Solid State Drive ($86.99 @ Amazon) Storage: Seagate - Barracuda 2TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive ($58.89 @ OutletPC) Video Card: Gigabyte - GeForce GTX 1060 6GB 6GB WINDFORCE OC 6G Video Card ($264.98 @ Newegg) Case: be quiet! - Pure Base 600 (Black) ATX Mid Tower Case ($89.00 @ Amazon) Power Supply: EVGA - SuperNOVA G2 550W 80+ Gold Certified Fully-Modular ATX Power Supply ($65.98 @ Newegg) Operating System: Microsoft - Windows 10 Home OEM 64-bit ($94.89 @ OutletPC) Wireless Network Adapter: TP-Link - TL-WDN4800 PCI-Express x1 802.11a/b/g/n Wi-Fi Adapter ($69.89 @ OutletPC) Total: $1213.36 Prices include shipping, taxes, and discounts when available Generated by PCPartPicker 2018-11-01 11:41 EDT-0400
  9. Get 1 8GB stick of ram instead of 2x4gb RAM. Easier to upgrade in the future to 16gb Also a better PSU would be wise as well.
  10. Already have 16gb of ram. Boss okay'd the 8300, so gonna go with that. Thanks though.
  11. 2mb of cache wouldn't be as noticeable as I think, you figure? Would it have any added benefits in terms of office work?
  12. Would be for the office, using the IGpu only, so no gpu. Not wanting Ryzen either, just a personal choice, and the cache is low on the r3 2200G. Right now the i3 -8100 is on sale for 146$, and the 8300 is full price at $199, from the same store. Just curious if my use case, the extra cache would prove useful, if going between a bunch of files, saving time and money.
  13. Yeah, but more curious if having an extra 2mb of cache would prove itself useful in time. .1ghz in speed is not noticeable, but the 2mb cache might be, is what I'm thinking.
  14. Would it be worth it to spend the extra on the 8300 over the 8100, for that 5% though? It's about a $30 difference, between them
  15. Just a quick question. Debating between the two coffee lake i3's (non-k) and noticed the 8300 has 8mb cache, comapred to the 6mb on the other. In terms of everyday performance, would it be more beneficial to go for the 8300, due to the increased cache and faster speed, or does the cost between the 2 cpu's make it not worthwhile to go from the 8100 to the 8300?
