  1. Hey guys I just got the new Zotac MAGNUS EC52070D which is missing any standard audio ports on the back (x1 3.5mm on front which is ugly) of the computer. It's got x3 DP 1.4 (I have to use DP for my video to get 1440p 144hz on my monitor) & x1 HDMI 2.0b as well as x4 USB 3.1 Gen 2 Type A ports (See attached imaged). I've got the KLIPSCH PROMEDIA 2. 1 that only have a 3.5mm jack and some potential speakers that'll use TOSLINK in the future. My Question is...What can I get that'll run my speakers. Preferably with a 3.5mm AND Toslink option? Would an HDMI audio extractor work while using DP for video? Would something listed below fulfill my needs? Or do you guys have any suggestions? 2. I'm look for some assistance for a build guide of a DIY NAS that meets these Major requirements: 4 drive bay case (mobo 4+ sata) with small foot print. Something like the "U-NAS NSC-410" Utilize FreeNAS to host the storage with it's main function as a Plex Media Server Plex Media Server must have enough resources to transcode x2 1080p streams at high bitrates (most items will be Direct Play) Cost <=$500 (not including storage) on case, psu, mobo, cpu, etc. with perhaps some bonuses Minor Requirements if possible: Newish I/O (USB 3.0, HDMI, etc.) Gigabit Ethernet Port Hot Swap HDD bay Low power consumption Remotely power on/off Any recommendations?
  3. It'll be running FreeNAS and function as a Plex Media Server with it being able to provide two 1080p direct play @ source content's MAX bitrate. Here's kinda what I found that I thought was quite reasonable vs buying a non-DIY solution -U-NAS NSC-410 Server Chassis with Power Supply ($160) ASRock J4205-ITX ($99) Crucial 8GB Single DDR3/DDR3L 1866 MT/s ($65) PCIe > M.2 for a cheap 64Gb M.2 SSD ($???) + HDD's Any other suggestions or thoughts???
  4. Not in a rush & I do know about the upcoming Coffee Lake CPUs, my concern there is that it'll be on a new chipset/socket? So its not backwards compatible with older mobos which means I'd prefer stability vs cutting edge. So this is a proof of concept with whats available today. UPDATE: a quick wiki search suggests that Z370 will still be on 1151, whoops
  5. I've been wanting to build my next build in the (SilverStone Milo Series ML08) and I've reached a road block on my motherboard selection. I've narrowed it down to (ASRock Fatal1ty Z270 Gaming-ITX/ac) (MSI Z270I GAMING PRO CARBON AC) (ASUS ROG Strix Z270I Gaming). Here's are the different highlights for each board: ASRock: it has the Thunderbolt 3 (40Gbps) but I don't have any reason currently to use it. Maybe a super fast external HDD/SSD? Basically its for future proofness & functions as a Type-C port MSI: It has USB 3.1 Gen 2 (10Gbps) Type-C & Type-A ports. I could see myself using the Type-A port more often, but I don't think there are really that many 10Gbps external HDD or Flash drives? Not Sure ASUS: its got x2 M.2 ports running PCIe which in this HTPC form factor case could prove very useful (I'll defiantly be using one M.2 for boot drive), but its stuck at USB 3.1 Gen 1 (5Gbps) ports So deciding between those different highlight features is whats got me stumped. What are some of your opinions?
  6. SO Windows 10 is here I already know that if you want the "free Windows 10 upgrade" you have to upgrade before you attempt to do a clean install. My questions is after it takes your key and converts it to a Windows 10 key can it... (A) You can reinstall the OS that the key originally came from using that same key just fine to activate it or is it now permanently a Windows 10 key? (B) Once a key is turned into a W10 key can you use it on another computer to install W10 (losing support for the PC it came from) or is it all tied to 1 device only. For instance when i've logged into my Microsoft Account is shows each device that has a W10 key & kinda makes you think its stuck to it. Especially since its stored inside real deep some how that when you do a clean install you don't have to type the product key.
  7. If so, then would there be any benefit or damage between going with a ITX single ACX Fan or a Double ACX fan?
  8. But would it be fine in my specific case?
  9. Hey guys I have an SilverStone Raven RVZ01 and I can't decide which GTX 960 I want to put in there. My main concerns are Sound Level, Temperatures, & 6-Pin position for easiest installation. I'm a total EVGA fan, but they do not have a "Blower Style" GTX 960, but they do have an awesome ITX 960 that would probably be more quiet (any thoughts?) (Also would mean that I could use the extra fan slot for another fan to control temps?). Other than that I did find two blower style cards (which I hear are better for ITX cases from MSI & Asus anything I should know to help me make a final decision? No OC will be preformed & no other graphic card suggestions outside of GTX 960.
  10. I'm planning on getting the Asus H97I-Plus for a upcoming ITX build. My question is it has a mini Pci port & I want to put a Intel Dual Band Wireless-AC 7260 Network Adapter inside it, but does it require any external antenna or can it pick up wifi on its own? Because the back i/o shield doesn't support external antennas.
  11. I've been looking at WD Red series for storage solution for my upcoming HTPC build. I like that they are low powered & they produce less noise. Since I'm going to be storing large amounts of video files & may be keeping my HTPC on overnight for some tasks is the Red series right for me? What are your suggestions? Will I notice any loss of speed (ie. boot time, videos opening or closing etc.)? My parts list> http://pcpartpicker.com/p/Wmhqgs
  12. Thank You for your constructive advice, not many people would play both sides.
  13. I'm wanting to build this machine here> http://pcpartpicker.com/p/GL6Fqs< and I was just wanting some support or opposition to help me decide if its strong enough to basically be a PLEX or XBMC media server & serve as a secondary computer for everyday uses. I'd also like to point out that i'm probably planning on sticking a GTX 960 later on down the line (No I WILL NOT USE RADEON, even if the numbers are stronger & $$$ cheaper...I like the software & driver support of NVIDIA better) to make it also function as a good "Windows Steam Machine" machine / LAN machine. Also if Haswell is good enough would it be worth the wait for less than 3 months for the new Broadwell chips to come out?
  14. Its probably transcoding... whatever Plex does to sends videos from the server to clients
  15. I main question is as a media server and Plex server would the Core i3 4150 be able to stream 1080p to other devices? Compared to the preformance of an AMD A-Series APU.
