  1. Heya, LTT forum! My rig has a GTX 550 Ti which is getting replaced soon. I wanted to get some extra FPS in some games, so I grabbed MSI Afterburner and started tweaking. I'm not new to overclocking, I started off safe and got a stable clock which ran amazingly even with AIDA64. However, the GPU started acting up after about a month. The core voltage, which I set to 1125mV(base is 1100mV), suddenly dropped to 950mV and refused to budge. The core clock also dropped to 405MHz(!) and the memory clock followed by dropping to 324MHz. Apart from browsing, the card is absolutely useless in this state, to the point where even 1080p youtube videos start lagging. I tried using Afterburner to reset everything back to normal, but it's still stuck on 950mV. I even monitored the temps and the card never got above 39c. I realized that completely powering down my PC, letting it rest for about 5 minutes, then turning it back on fixes the voltage and clocks. After that it kinda works, sometimes I can even game for a whole day without it dropping back to 950mV. I tried underclocking the card, hoping that would prevent it from dropping in voltage, and it seemed to work for about a month before it started doing the same thing again. I constantly monitor temperatures and I've come to the conclusion that the card does this on absolutely random intervals. The highest temp I've seen the GPU go is 60c, and soon after it dropped the voltage. I've searched far and wide on Google but to no avail. There's still about a month until upgrades arrive and I'm hellbent on fixing this card. Has anyone else encountered anything like this? Any way to fix this, maybe tips on what to try? Thanks in advance, I appreciate any leads.
