    Dell 2414Q 4K @ 60Hz

If anyone actually cares about a relevant answer... it was just a setting from the monitor OSD menu, so I feel a little silly. It's still a single layer monitor though, and does actually support 60 Hz. Thanks Sauron.
  2. So I just got a 4K monitor, and it's beautiful and great, but by default, it's running 3840 x 2160 w/ "32 bit True Color" at 30 Hz. I know the monitor should support up to at least 60 Hz with displayport 1.2, and my single EVGA SC 780 supports displayport 1.2, which is the cable type I'm using, but there's no option to change to 60 Hz under any monitor settings. Does anyone know what's going on? Is it a settings thing, a compatibility problem, or hardware limitation along the way? I'm running the 4K alongside an older 1080p dell with a DVI-D input if that makes a difference. Any thoughts are appreciated.
  3. So I've gotten my most recent system (Windows 7, ASUS Maximus VI Hero) up and running and she does great with games. I've run 18 hour stress tests on both my EVGA SC GTX 780 and Intel i7-4770K and they've done beautifully, no muck-ups or artifacts. However, I've been noticing that when Chrome is open for some time and I shift to game or work on something else, then come back, there are big black bars covering the Tabs and Html portion at the top of the page. They go away once I run my cursor over them( sometimes) and whenever I open a new tab, so it doesn't seem like it's getting in the way too much, but it's just a little worrisome. This also only happens with Chrome, not Firefox or IE. I haven't really done much in the way of overclocking yet since I've still been letting everything settle (to troubleshoot for things like this!). Do you guys think this might be a video driver issue? A Chrome issue? Let me know what you think, and thanks for the help. 4. Found that uninstalling the Intel Rapid Storage Technology program fixed the problem completely. The new motherboard wasn't a loss since some of the pins were bent in some places anyway, but there were no actual physical or even BIOS related issues.
  5. Looking around I've found most people with this same issue just ended up deciding they had a bad board and getting new one, so that's what I guess I'll have to do, since the problem hasn't been consistently affected by anything I do.
  6. Right. Most recently it's done it every time, but there have been occasions where it shut down the way it should.
  7. So I put my system together about a month ago and everything was running great until I noticed that sometimes when I shut the system down, she restarted instead. After some testing I found that she not only restarts when I’m logged in and try to shut down, but goes into sleep mode (computer running but no power to monitor, mouse or keyboard LEDs, and Q-Code 05 shows on the board, which the manual says signifies that sleep mode was initialized) whenever I shut down from the log-in screen. The only changes I’ve made to BIOS have been initially setting the CPU to Turbo (no OC) and the RAM to its suggested 2133 MHz, as well as a BIOS EZ Update from 0804 to 1102 after I noticed the issue. I reset the CPU and RAM settings back to defaults one at a time, and first after I changed the CPU setting the system shut down properly a few times when requested, then the problem came back. Nothing happened when I reset the RAM setting. Thanks for any help, since I’m completely at a loss. 10. To start, I have to say I've been an AMD fanboy for a while, but I'm starting to get sick of recent business endeavors by manufacturers. I've been waiting for a very good while for my ASUS DirectCU II R9 290, but with the price jumps just to get a reasonably quiet and cool card, I'm looking to nVidia. So what do you guys think about this EVGA GTX 780? Note I'm planing on running 2K in near future, but have a 1080p Dell Ultrasharp monitor right now. http://www.microcenter.com/product/415279/03G-P4-2784-KR_NVIDIA_GeForce_GTX_780_Superclocked_w-ACX_Cooler_3072MB_GDDR5_PCIe_x16_30_Video_Card Part of the complaints I heard about nVidia was that some manufacturers make overpriced 4GB cards with only 256-bit bus, but this one matches the GB/126-bit ratio, only has 1GB/128 less than the R9s, and has a trustworthy manufacturer and good cooler for about the same price as recent R9 290s. Should I go for this one instead just so I can stop stressing and waiting for a decent card, or should I wait? Will the extra extra VRAM with an aftermarket cooler be worth putting it off and maybe getting a better price once this whole thing settles down? All thoughts welcome. Thanks
  11. So if I want the applications to boot up quickly, can I just put the .exe files on the SSD? Or do I need other associated files like the rest of each application's ProgramFiles sub-folder for that to work or make a difference?
  12. So I've recently gotten a new system including a Samsung 840 EVO 120GB SSD that currently holds Windows (still early on enough that I haven't installed any other programs) and a Seagate Barracuda 2TB HDD for mass storage. Of course I've heard all the wonders of SSD read speeds, and I've been approached with the idea of using the SSD to just hold OS and the ProgramFiles (for the .exe files so applications start up faster) for all applications I use, while the rest of the data related to the programs stay on mass storage. The way to do this (as has been suggested) is to have the Registry Editor direct ProgramFiles/(X86) directories to the SSD and ProgramData and everything else to the HDD. This leads to a few questions on my part since I'm not as well versed in all of this as I'd like to be: What exactly are the ProgramFiles/ProgramFiles(X86) directories used for as opposed to ProgramData and how well might this set-up work? Currently on my old cluttered PC ProgramFiles(X86) takes up about 223GB, while both ProgramFiles and ProgramData take up less than 5GB each. Needless to say I don't have that kind of space on the SSD alone. What are you guys' thoughts on this? Does this sound like a good idea? A terrible one that's more hassle than it'll actually be worth? What might I do to make this whole thing a little bit more reasonable? Or should I just not bother and keep both ProgramFiles/(86) and ProgramData on the HDD? Thanks for any advice.
  13. @WoodenMarker My previous system included a Radeon HD6790 and an Intel i5-2400, 8GB Ripjaws RAM from 2007, and a P8P67LE Motherboard. It's been a few days, and I have to say I've gone out and splurged and bought the majority of my new system (the most recent stated above) save the video card. At this point I'm planning on getting an R9 290 with an after-market cooler once they (hopefully) come out in mid-December.
  14. So at this point I'm planning a similar build to lachyman's suggestion. I made a few changes based on some shopping I did today to look at in-store prices and my own personal preferences: Motherboard: Asus Maximus VI Hero ATX ($199.99 @ Microcenter) CPU: Intel i5-4670K ( >$200 @ Microcenter) Memory: Corsair Vengeance 2X8GB (prices varied, more expensive in-store, but it was also for the Pro version or for 4X4GB) Storage: Samsung 840 EVO 120GB ($99 @ Microcenter) Storage: Seagate Barracuda 2TB 7200 RPM ($85 in-store) Case: Fractal Design Arc Midi R2 (Personal Preference) Power Supply: Corsair GS800W ($85 in-store, I'm not sure how much wattage I'll really need, but it was only about $10 more than the 650W) I'm still deciding on which GPU I'll choose, though. And again, thanks for all the help and suggestions.
  15. Thanks all for the suggestions. Glad I ran this through a forum before wasting a good few hundred.
