  1. I'm trying to install an old OS on a retro PC, but the hard drive I'm using has Windows 10 on it. Since the OS is older than Windows 10 it disables the ability to install from the disk. How do I get around that?
  2. We can't even get to the point of attempting a resolution. This is on my PC, but on theirs, the button to create the resolution is greyed out.
  3. Hi, I'm trying to help a friend set up a custom resolution, but the button is greyed out. To be specific, they did turn off DSR and the scaling. The Customize button was clickable and the next window came up, but "Create Custom Resolution" was greyed out and we can't tell why.
  4. Alright. I'll get it, and if my desk isn't enough I at least have the custom one parted out and costs counted up. I do still want to upgrade my desk at some point anyway, so it'd just be speeding up something I'll be doing anyway.
  5. Well, now I have a plan to use a door, 4x4, and a couple L brackets to make my own corner desk. Thanks ?
  6. The one I'm wanting to make is 30 inches deep, 60 inches wide, 1-2 inches thick, standing 30 inches high at the desk top ,and legs that can be used to make a small server rack.
  7. I'd love to have a corner desk, or just a bigger one in general. Mine is just like 40 inches wide.
  8. I should add a bit more info about this desk in particular. Aside from the normal four feet on the corners, there are two more segmenting it into 2/3 for the person to sit and focus, and 1/3 for shelves. All 6 legs are steel tubes with bars for the shelves to mount running from front to back on all of them.
  9. So good news. I found a version of the stand by the same company with a large foot instead of a clamp, so I can place it in front of the back feet without modding my desk with a hole. I'll still be doing the L bracket reinforcement, though, until I build my own desk with normal wood.
  10. This desk has the feet all the way to the edge. I do have a PC on a shelf under and attached to the desk, but at the end of the day I do just need a better desk too
  11. Okay. For two of them that'll be a problem since the mounts are straight up the pole with room to raise/lower and tilt, but they aren't on articulated arms. I can, however, still do the reinforcement you recommended.
  12. I'm wanting to get a VESA monitor stand to hold four monitors (max 27 inches each), three inline and one on top. I'm using a desk I believe is 5/8" (15.875mm) thick MDF (will upgrade to real wood at some point), but I'm not sure how much weight it can handle on one contact point. I have no idea if I should do it or wait until I'm using a proper wood desk. Other concerns are warping and making the desk fall backwards under the weight instead of breaking.
  13. Is there a way to keep Windows XP and 7 from enabling a GPU every time it boots? I want each to have their own and ignore the other one without having to resort to UNRAID. I don't want to use both OSs at the same time and every VM I try doesn't use the GPU for acceleration and games, so they're useless and awful. I'm using an 8800GT for XP and a GTX 1060 for Windows 7. The 8800GT can't use drivers newer than 342 and the 1060 isn't supported on XP at all.
  14. I'm developing a personalized audio matrix that uses the Line In on a motherboard or sound card. I can't find any details on the needs for input signal and that's kinda critical to be able to use it correctly. I don't want to blow it out or be too quiet.
  15. Yeah, that would be lol. And I called my idea stupid because it's a 1060 Mini, not something huge like a STRIX
  16. Thermal paste doesn't effect fan speed. The problem is that the fan was saying it was at 40% to 60%, but only sitting at 500RPM and below. 60% fan speed on that fan is almost 2000RPM
  17. Thought about that as well, but it would be too expensive to really benefit me. I had also considered doing something stupid like this https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835186068&cm_re=GPU_cooler-_-35-186-068-_-Product
  18. Oh, okay. Thanks. What do you mean by "the right fan header type"?
  19. That's why I asked if it would be okay. I want to use the GPU header if at all possible to make it more accurate when changing speed for cooling and also better cable management. It's more or less the same as the stock Nvidia PCB with a better voltage controller and more phases.
  20. I'm wanting to replace the fan on this card because it can't ramp up speed to keep cool anymore, but the fans I'm seeing all draw more current. The stock fan is an 87mm Everflow that draws 12V and 300mA, but the similar size fans I'm seeing draw 450mA or 500mA. Every fan involved here is 4 wire PWM. Would it be okay to use those higher requirement fans? I'm not sure if there's anything in the way in the circuit that might have issue with the current draw, or if the fan pulls straight from the 12V rail.
