  1. I'm wondering if booting using something like Ultimate Boot CD might help. Does anyone have any experience with this or recommendations?
  2. Hey, I am helping out a friend who got locked out of their old Windows 8 machine. I wasn't able to reset the password to help get back in, so I'm doing the next best thing and pulling all the data off the HDD before reformatting (with Windows 10 of course). I have pulled the HDD out and connected it up to another Windows machine. The drive shows up fine and I can see the bulk of the contents, however most/all of the the x:\Users\username folders are hidden and I presume I don't have the permission to see them. I'm trying to take ownership of the entire drive just so I can pull everything off but getting errors like A device which does not exist was specified. I've tried a couple other file/folder ownership tools but not getting anywhere. Has anyone got any suggestions for me? Thanks
  3. I am still waiting for the Cooler Master replacement, so I went ahead and bought a new Corsair RM650 in the meantime. Connected it all up yesterday and haven't had a single issue with the PC since. That seems fairly conclusive that the issue was with the PSU. Hopefully this helps someone else one day.
  4. Unfortunately the stress test only lasted about 1:15 hours last night before shutting down. I'm moving forward with the warranty replacement. Stay tuned if that resolves this issue or not...
  5. You may not have that one - there was probably another audio connector for the audio ports. Yes - I’ve been operating under the assumption that your got a power cable connected to the PSU and the switch is ON on the back of the PSU?
  6. If your computer is booting up, you could also try the following:
  7. Memtest came back with zero faults (4 passes), and the machine has been stable the whole time... I'll boot it back into windows tonight and leave a stress test running to see if it holds up overnight.
  8. I'm assuming you've already checked that this all lines up, but I'll add it in here anyways. Case connectors Motherboard It could also be the ram, but considering you've got 2 sticks, they'd both probably have to be faulty for it to be not powering on.
  9. If thats the case, then its either a faulty component (PSU, motherboard, CPU) or the case power button isn't correctly connected (refer to the image I sent through earlier). If anyone else has any ideas, go for it.
  10. Does the CPU fan spin at all? Do any lights come on anywhere?
  11. Probably not until the load/temperature is high enough.
  12. From what I can tell in the picture, the front panel connectors aren't connected in the bottom right corner (correct me if I'm wrong).
  13. Any chance you're able to send through a better picture (more light would be helpful)?
  14. You're picture is a bit dark and blurry, so it'd hard to tell - but can you confirm you've got the 8-pin power connected in the top left corner of the motherboard?
  15. So I managed to reload Windows, update it, install all latest drivers, run SSD check, run GPU & CPU stress test with no issues. I then was rebooting to run memtest86 and had the shutdown happen. I've got it up again and it's been running memtest for the past 30mins with no errors. It does appear to be either Motherboard or PSU at this stage. Does anyone know any checks/tests I can run to help narrow it down?
  16. Okay. Update. I have a pending warranty request for the PSU that I'm still waiting to get processed. In the meantime I've noticed something else which throws some confusion into the mix... it appears that often (not always) the 'shutdown' occurs when I'm rebooting. e.g. I noticed it when installing windows updates. It would do it's usual 30%...40%... then restart to come back and continue on, and just as it was restarting the computer would power off completely. That is the point I would need to unplug the power cable for a few minutes etc before I could turn it back on. I am currently reformatting it just to make sure Windows isn't somehow causing the issue. However it has already powered off once during the re-install process.
  17. Thanks @BlackManINC. I did read that thread as well. If it appears to be a PSU issue then I'll have to go through the warranty process.
  18. I haven't, but I'll test that now and see how it goes. Update: Still shutdown soon after booting into Safe Mode.
  19. Hey, I'll preface this with I was a Sys/Network Admin for years but haven't quite come across an issue like this, hence I'm reaching out. I have a reasonably new custom build (4/5 months old - specs below) that has been running great until 2 days ago. Essentially it randomly powers off within 30 minutes of use (sometimes even while its booting up). There is no BSOD. There are no logs indicating any issue other than unexpected shutdown. It occurs if it's idle or if it's running a stress-test (CPU Temp ~70C). Other than it will definitely happen within 30 mins, I haven't found any consistent pattern. What confuses me (but also causes me to wonder if it's a PSU issue) is that in order to power it back on, I need to remove the power plug for at least 60 seconds, hit the power button a few times, plug it back in - then it will power on. I have also tested multiple locations (work & home) in case it was dirty power or something. I've managed to get Windows fully updated, latest MSI/AMD drivers, BIOS is fully updated and the issue still continues. Specs Windows 10 64bit (fully updated) AMD Ryzen 7 3800X Corsair Vengeance LPX Ryzen 16GB (2x8GB), PC4-25600 (3200MHz) DDR4 MSI MPG X570-A Pro Samsung 860 EVO 1TB M.2 SATA SSD MSI Radeon RS 5700 XT MECH OC, 8GB Cooler Master MWE Gold 650W Cooler Master MasterLiquid ML240R
  20. Hey all, I've got this dumb issue where my watch folder for Adobe Media Encoder will convert any media that arrives in it. The issue is that when one of our team places their media project there from Premiere Pro, the root folder has the xxx.prproj and all the media elements as well. This means AME will render ALL the files to .mp4 and shift the original to the 'source' folder. The issue then becomes that if a media element is rendered before the .prproj file, it is moved to the source folder and the .prproj file render fails due to missing media. Is there any way in Premiere Pro to shift all the media to a subfolder first or get AME to only convert the .prproj file? Any help is greatly appreciated! Thanks
  21. Hey, I'm wondering if I can purchase a second GPU to use additional monitors with my current system? I am already using all four of the current GPU outputs and need to add an extra couple monitors. I am currently getting around it by using a USB-C dock with a couple video outputs but want to do away with this. Specs CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 3800x RAM: 16GB Corsair GPU: AMD Radeon RX 5700 XT MB: MST X570-A Pro I'm looking to buy something like a Radeon RX 570. Thanks
  22. I've decided not to overclock now, so it's just about getting better temperatures. I didn't choose to get a MacBook Pro; it's a work notebook (fully specced) that can play games. I don't have a gaming rig and don't want to fork out a couple grand to get one. So I'm just seeing what options there are to use what I do have to get somewhat of a decent gaming experience.
  23. The opolar cooler looks good, but definitely won't work with a Macbook Pro. Any other thoughts on cooling pads?
  24. What about laptop cooling fans? I have never dealt with them, are they any good?
