  1. Backups would be the best solution, but seeing as I spent no money on these drives, it wasn't really an option to use lots of money to backup some TBs of movies I guess it's time to invest in some proper, unused drives.
  2. The bootloader is probably located on the old drive. The best solution would be to reinstall Windows with only the new Samsung SSD connected, to make sure that all install data is in that disk.
  3. Yeah, I know it's not ideal for speed, but I wanted more redundancy as these disks were already used. Server 2016 wouldn't make that much of a difference in this case though, as It would still just be a Storage Spces volume. Now it also seems that writing to the volume doesn't work, as I got an error little over halfway in the copying process.
  4. I have a server with Windows Server 2012 R2 with a Storage Spaces pool consisting of 4 Hitachi 3TB disks (1 hot spare), the pool is configured with parity. It has worked fine until now, a bit slow, but still working. Now I can open the volume and see the files, but can't play any of the media. When trying to copy something from the volume there is a short burst with 15-20 MB/s reads, but then it dips down to 0. Once every couple of minutes it will transfer a couple of KB. Storage Spaces says that all disks are healthy, but HWInfo is saying that two of the disks have SMART errors. The weird thing is that writing to the volume is completely OK, I am getting +80MB/s when writing. What could be the issue here? Is there some settings that could be tweaked, or is the data already on the disks corrupted and unsalvageable?
  5. Now I've installed Server 2012 and want to initialize the storage pool again, but I can't really seem to figure out how to do it, also a bit afraid to do anything that would wipe data.
  6. ok thanks, will do the install later today!
  7. So it should detect that there exist a storage space with the 3 disks when all of them are initialized?
  8. So I have a home server with plex, sonarr, webserver etc. currently running Windows 10. It also has a software RAID 0 configured with the built in "Storage Spaces" in Windows. Now I am thinking about switching to Win Server 2012 R2 (easier management, other features I want), but I don't really know what will happen to the RAID config if I install a different OS. Will I be able to recover the array after installing, or will I have to do it some other way?
  9. I have just purchased a brand new Samsung 850 EVO 250GB drive as my OS drive for my desktop computer, meaning to put my old SSD into my laptop. I have cloned the OS from the old to the new disk without any issues, and seeing as I did not have any Win8 install media handy I thought I would clone the OS from the laptop to the old SSD, using EaseUS. I made sure to delete files so that there would be room on the SSD. After cloning it seems that the SSD not only has the data of the old HDD, but also its "config", in windows the 120GB SSD shows up as the old 500GB HDD with all its partitions. When trying to do anything with the disk, Windows freezes, making me do a hard reset (reset button not working in this case). I have tried booting Gparted, but it would not boot for some reason, anyone know what I can do?
  10. SSD: Kingston SV200 SVP200S37A I just got a SSD from a friend that I need to update the firmware on. His problem was that he would boot up the PC (using the SSD) and after 5-10 minutes it would give an error saying that a SATA device has been disconnected, and a reboot was neccesary. So I thought I would try to update the firmware on the SSD to make it work again, the problem I am having is that once I try to scan for availible devices using the Kingston firmware update software the SSD seem to dismount itself once I start searching for devices. Doing a reboot results in the SSD appearing again, but it still disappears after 5-10 minutes or when I try to scan. I can create partitions on it before it dismounts.
  11. seems like it works after flashing, thanks!
  12. I can't really take out the CMOS battery, since I would void my warranty if I did, is there anything else that could work?
  13. since it is a laptop I would have to dismantle the whole thing to take out the battery, but I can try a powercycle
  14. I just decided that I wanted to reinstall Windows 8.1 on my laptop since it was beginning to slow down, and I couldn't be bothered to do anything else about it. So naturally I created a Windows 8.1 usb drive to reinstall from, and rebooted with the stick in, but it just booted Windows. Then I went into BIOS, but the drive wasn't there, not under hard drives nor boot devices. So I tried to turn off fastboot mode, but that just made it impossible for me to get into the BIOS. Now when i press "delete" to enter BIOS nothing happens. I also tried inserting a Windows 7 DVD, but the computer won't boot from that either. Is there any other way I could run an installation of Windows?
  15. The GPU I am currently using is a Gigabyte 280X, which is working well, altough I have noticed that my card does not perform as well as benchmarks says it will. I am running two monitors, and I am wondering if this affects my performance? Because of the decrease in performance, I am wondering if it would be possible to run my second monitor from the old HD7770 I have? I can't seem to figure out what speeds the PCI ports on my motherboard runs at in different configurations ( It's an Asrock B75 Pro-3), and I wonder if my main card would run slower if I had another card plugged in in a different port?
