  1. So I've had my radeon VII card for just under a year now (brought it at launch) and recently I think it's developed a bit of an issue. My PC keeps randomly crashing during gameplay. Instances include stuff like sitting in a queue on overwatch, trying to play the Division 2 in DX12, and if I play any game for around an hour my PC just hard resets. All my drivers are up to date and I'm running the latest version of widows. Does anyone have any tips or tricks that I can use to diagnoses the exact issue, at the moment I've just been using windows event viewer and that all.
  2. I would but the machine isn't posting at all and his Motherboard doesn't have any kind of BIOS flashback feature
  3. So, a few weeks ago I helped a friend assemble their new ryzen 3000 rig. The build went smoothly and everything worked fine. A few days ago my friend was trying to add a SATA SSD to their rig and because of the case layout they had to remove the motherboard first to add the new SSD. After everything was plugged back in the machine no longer posted and the red CPU LED light was showing I wasn't there when he was doing all this so I don't know exactly what happened. (Motherboard is the ROG strix X470-I gaming). We tried putting the CPU into a an x570 asus prime board and while no diagnostics lights stayed on it still didn't post. My friend did try returning the CPU to the retailer but according to them the CPU works fine so now. I have a few theories of what to try (which I'll list down below) but I wanted to see if you guys had any ideas as to what It could be or any suggestions on what to try next. Thanks in advance! Could be a RAM issue, might be worth swapping a RAM sticks to see if one of them has failed Could be a BIOS issue, maybe the BIOS has gone corrupt and now is no longer detecting the CPU correctly might of accidentally bridged the CMOS flash pins so the BIOS has reset Could be a motherboard issue, maybe there's been an issue with the socket?
  4. I meant stuff like looking for used thinkpads and looking out for laptops like the HP stream because of emmc
  5. Yeah some of the advice in it was a little shocking (like the surface having the best keyboard?) but it does have some relevant parts to it as well but yeah after watching it again it seems that most of the more relevant/better advice was geared towards the lower end laptops
  6. LTT actually put out a video recently that you might find useful
  7. If you can get a R5 3600 and a B450 board that has the correct BIOS to run it out of the box then you should definitely get one. It's an absolutely amazing CPU at it's price point. Depending on where you buy the motherboard from they might update the BIOS for you before the board is shipped. It'll come with a Ryzen 3000 series ready sticker on the box.
  8. to be honest I don’t really need the 3700X, i’m mostly be using it for gaming and in games the 3600 OC’d is within 2% of the 3700X at so I can’t really justify the extra money for it. My PC travels to and from university with me hence why I don’t typically consider AIOs
  9. I do like noctuas stuff, the one thing that really puts me off is the colour of the fans
  10. So I've been looking into getting a R5 3600 to replace my R5 1600, I've also been looking into changing my CPU cooler as I'm planning on over-clocking the 3600 as far as it will go while still being stable. I've been thinking of getting the dark rock pro 4 to replace my Cryorig H5 universal because I've heard really good things about it (mostly that it runs practically silent) however i'm a little on the fence about it because by current cooler is can handle up to 160W TDP so I think that the dark rock pro 4 might be a little overkill and I'm honestly not sure if buying a new cooler will be strictly worth it so I'm open to all suggestions. EDIT: my case is the NZXT S340 (I know the dark rock doesn't "technically" fit but I have seen pictures of it in my case with the side panel shut)
  11. First gen LGA1151 boards don't support cannon lake, you'll need to buy a newer motherboard
  12. So, a friend of mine just spent £200 (£150 for the case and £50 for shipping)on this case: https://m.aliexpress.com/item/33016733675.html?pid=808_0000_0109&spm=a2g0n.search-amp.list.33016733675&aff_trace_key=5757f82f8b474d9dbac8bf3a325b8d3d-1562235357266-09893-UneMJZVf&aff_platform=msite&m_page_id=5989amp-MW98RM-6w28RAyEKodndPA1562307348241 Personally, I think he's crazy for spending that type of money for something that looks like that, thought It'd be worth getting a few opinions on it.
  13. the older Corsair VS Series 650 80+ white rated
  14. Is a 650W PSU enough for a Sapphire R9 fury Nitro?
  15. So I’ve recently replaced my sapphire R9 Fury Nitro for a Radeon VII card. I’ve planing on selling my old GPU to a friend for £100. I was wondering if that’s a for price on the card for him? I don’t mind taking a little hit in the wallet on it but I just wanna make sure that he’s getting a good deal on it.
  16. So, I've been looking for a new GPU to replace my R9 fury and I was really considering radeon VII however, the only one I was willing to buy was the sapphire branded card as it's the cheapest version of the card here in the UK at £650. Unfortunately it doesn't seem like that version of the card is gonna be back for at least the next month at this point. So I started looking at the RTX 2080 instead. On Amazon they have EVGAs RTX 2080 Black edition doing for £694 and a basic gigabyte windforce card for £689. I've got a £50 amazon voucher to use so I could get either of these cards for less that any radeon VII currently being sold. I was just wondering if getting the 2080 over radeon VII is worth it at the moment. Thanks in advance.
  17. So I recently purchased my first 1440p monitor and while it does look awesome unfortunately my R9 Fury is struggling to keep frames above 60 nowadays so I'm looking for a new GPU. I was massively considering Radeon VII because I don't really care about ray tracing or DLSS. I was wondering if anyone had any suggestion as to what would be the best GPU to buy at the moment for 1440p gaming. I've got about £700 to spend on a new card.
  18. Hello All, I was wondering if you peoples had any tips and tricks for cleaning out a PC? I’ve pretty much only used compressed air maybe every 6 months or so to clean my system. I was wonder if there’s any general rule of thumb for how often you should be cleaining your PC and the best ways to do it.
  19. So this morning i stepped on my razer Man O war dongle and broke it, i'm looking for a replacement for it. I've tried contacting razer and all they've told me is to keep checking stock on replacement dongles which isn't really too helpful
  20. i've seen some FTW and msi aero cards going for £175-£200, in the UK the 1050ti and a used 970 are practically the same price
  21. My friend is looking to upgrade his PC this week and originally was going to buy a new 1050ti, i suggested that getting a used 970 might be a better option as you can fing used 970s going for the same price as a new 1050ti. Is it worth getting a used 970 or would the 1050ti be the better option?
  22. my friends has got an interview with intel and he needs to make a presentation in which he has to educate a games developer on a specific gaming technology related to intel, something that will enhance their latest game. He is thinking about covering VR as intel is pushing that at the moment, but isn't too sure if that's the best approach. I was wondering if people on here would have any ideas about what he could talk about. thanks
  23. So about a week ago half or my ram just stopped working, i tried and tested it myself and determined that one of the sticks had died as task manager was detecting the slot on my board was occupied while only showing 8GB instead of 16GB. I sent of the broken stick to the shop that i brought it from and they have now contacted my saying that i needed to return both sticks. So at this point i have two options either buy new ram or just send mine off. I'm a university student with exams in about 2 weeks that i need my PC to revise for so i cant really afford to have my PC down for however long this takes but at the same time buying new ram when they could just replace mine seems like a waste of money. They also don't sell just 8GB of my 3000mhz lpx ram so these are my options: 1. wait till next week to send off my ram and hope that i get it back soon 2. buy another 16GB of my ram, send my other stick off then sell or keep the set that I get back 3. if i buy another 8GB of ram it would have to be at a different rated speed than mine. so would its base speed be that same as mine and the timing be the same? could i run my original 16GB with the new ram if the speeds are timings are different? any input is appreciated and if you have any other ideas then i'm happy to here them
  24. I’m using am4 so i can’t unfortunately
