  1. Hey guys! I had troubles with temperature spiking on my i7700k for a few months and firstly I thought that it might be the chip. Case: NZXT S340 ELITE CPU: i7 7700k Motherboard: Maximus Hero IX Cooler: NZXT Kraken X62 But secondly I always thought that it might be the loose backplate of the X62 at the back: FIGURE 1 FIGURE 2 FIGURE 3 I have seen several posts saying that its supposed to be loose, but as you can see the bottom right standoff, from the perspective of FIGURE 1, is very crooked and much further apart than the other standoffs. The problem being is that I don't want to break anything before I try it, because as you can see in FIGURE 2 and FIGURE 3 there are motherboard pins between the backplate and the motherboard that could break if the backplate is too tight. Thats why I wanted to ask you if this is ok? Is it normal that its the bottom right is that loose? Thank you for your help!
  2. Please have a look at this article: http://www.overclock.net/t/1638955/z370-z390-vrm-discussion-thread
  3. Fixed! hahaha The 24 ATX PIN wasn't in correctly apparently. I think this caused power shortages to the GPU and it shut down etc. thus the black screens. Thank you guys for the help!
  4. Have fun! So I tried switching the GPU from my system to a GTX 980 from my old system that works... still the same problem. My assumption about the GPU being the problem seems to be wrong. I made this assumption because the first time I had the black screen it were the GPU fans that spinned like crazy and because of one red fan LED on the GPU and lastly because I have had a lot of problems with EVGA cards before (BSOD, driver issues, EVGA XOC) The reverse, putting the new 1080ti into an old system instead of the GTX 980 into the new system will yield the same result, right? Or did I do it the wrong way around?
  5. Thank you for noticing that detail! Yes I think/ I know that it can't be the issue, because I played exactly the same games with no problems whatsoever, no black screens. I have had this PC for about 2 months already and no issues prior to the black screens. I even played a long time with a 75Mhz OC and put Power Consumption to 100%, this I then reset to default after the first black screen. From one day to the other I got the black screens... so frustrating
  6. I switched the GPU now from my system to a GTX 980 of my old system and still the same problem.
  7. I calculated it an 650W is totally fine, my recommended wattage is 470W. Will test the GPU in a different system now!
  8. The board LED's are fully on and the motherboard reboot was the only thing that worked when I got the black screens so I am really not sure about that
  9. Ok I will do that now! How can I test if its a power draw issue, because I also had a feeling that this could also possibly be the problem
  10. 7700k@4.2Ghz DDR4-3200Mhz EVGA GTX 1080ti FTW3 ASUS Maximus IX Hero Corsair RM650i Hey guys thank you for helping me! So about 3 days ago I got a black screen while playing a game, the sound was working etc. it was just a complete black-screen, at the same time as my graphics card was revamping the fans (very loud). When I would reboot the PC it would give me a graphic error (black screen with a white pixelated line). I then started my PC via the motherboard using an HDMI to my screen, updated the graphics drivers and the firmware via EVGA XOC and started the PC via DVI again and everything worked! I thought it was fixed... But then the next day I get three other black screen, I do the same thing booting using an HDMI and my motherboard than restarting via DVI. I first thought it was Windows ... I changed power settings etc. , then I thought it was the game but then it happened on a different game, the same thing, the same loud fan noise of the GPU, the same white pixelated black screen after a reboot using the GPU. I was monitoring the temps before everyone of those black-screens and the GPU was at max 60C while the CPU was at max 50C. Prior to the black screens the only problem I had was that the CPU temps would randomly spike +10C, but I googled and other Kaby Lake users have the same problem. The second problem was that I could only properly run all of my GPU fans when EVGA XOC was installed... So today I get another black screen... but this time when I want to reset and go into my BIOS using HDMI it doesn't work and the Motherboard shows me the QCode 00 (for hardware failure), although all fans, excluding the GPU, turn on. Secondly the EVGA GTX 1080ti FTW3 has three LED's for each fan and one of them changes the light from green to red, I have googled and no explanation for this, as far as I know, exists yet. I am quite sure that this is a problem with my GPU but since even booting via the motherboard, avoiding DVI, doesn't work it might also be the CPU with its weird memory spikes... or even the 3200Mhz memory. I am just completely lost and do not know what to do and if you wonder ... I have avoided the problem in the first place by using the HDMI and then rebooting with a GPU since I thought it would be a software/driver issue and would fix it self. I am very sorry for this wall of text, that might be very confusing, so please feel free to ask and thank you for helping me. I have a feeling that it is the GPU but I don't want to replace it and find out its just my motherboard or my CPU... I'm just so lost
  11. I, and I seem not to be the only one, also get weird spikes when in idle in my temperature and load... sits at 29,30 and then spikes up to 35-40... Edit: Updated the BIOS and it still persists
  12. So these are bad temps / they shouldnt be this high?
  13. Hey! I originally used an i3770k and stress testing my new i7700k in a new build I thought the temperatures were much too high for using an AIO cooler and not overclocking... Setup: i7700k @4.2GHz Corsair Platinum DDR4 @3200MHz Kraken x62 Eva GTX1080Ti FTW3 Stresstest: Prime95 Small FFTs: (20min) ~71°C RealBench: (100% Load, 15 minutes) Max 69°C Aida64 System Stability Test: (15min) ~49.2°C Benchmark: RealBench: (1 Run) 124,986 System Score UNIGINE Superposition Benchmark:(1080p Extreme, DirectX): 5855 Score (GPU: Min 35°C Max 70°C) Maybe its just the bad thermals of the 7700k and I am just used to my old processor but I just wanted to be sure and get a second, more experienced opinion since I couldn't find much valuable information for my setup anywhere else, so thank you for your answer!
  14. Thank you for your answer! If I were to use 2 separate ones of this kind will it matter which string I use e.g. only the one closer to the original string, since they are both connected (http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/forum/id-2139363/properely-pcie-connector-pitcure.html), or can I still use the one further away? I am asking for cable management reasons.
  15. Ok thank you for clearing that up! I was definitely overreacting then ^^
