Just wanted to share an experience I had last night and to see if anyone else has had this issue.
I built a x99 system two weeks ago. I got the Asus x99 A2 motherboard a i7 6850k, 32 gig of corsair 3200mhz RAM and a Asus GTX 1080.
Anyway all was fine and the system ran great for two weeks. Last night I went to boot it up, after a few seconds, sparks and smoke stated to come from what seems to be the power controller on the motherboard. Strangely the system kept booting and I had to turn off the system manually. It seems that if I left it, it may have caught on fire :(. I have never seen anything like this ever. I'm taking the system back to the retailer to check it out and hopefully get replacement for the motherboard and possible the CPU if it got fried. I'll update when I get some news.
Has anyone had anything similar to this happen to a X99 board?
