  1. Not too much metal, this place is mostly wood, there is a screen between it though, not too much interference, The AP is flat but on a desk so not ideal but i can't properly mount it due to the house situation,
  2. Yup and also checked with Dr Wifi to check for the deadspots
  3. They run on 2.4ghz, Do you think its the 60% experience that would be the problem? Also would i get any speed reduction from the main wired AC Pro or just the AC lite?
  4. Hey everyone, I live in a one bedroom apartment which is only roughly 13 large steps long however I'm facing issues with connectivity on my Unifi system. Currently I have a USG, 8 port switch and AC Pro all in the corner of my apartment behind my computer in my living room and I've noticed that the Sonoff s22 smart plugs on other end of the apartment in my bedroom get roughly 60% wifi experience and occasionally drop off which are obstructed by a wall and are located under my bed and behind a side table so I thought about putting a AC Lite in eyesight of the AC Pro to get better coverage. I'm aware that the AC Pro should be on the roof and that a wired connection to the second access point would be better however as I'm renting I don't have the ability to drill to get the cables through so the best i can do is have the AC pro desk mounted and a wireless uplink in my room. Do you think this is the best option for now or am I possibly attributing the drop offs falsely to the experience?
  5. Sadly there's no way to get an ethernet cable into this room without drilling. What's your thoughts on fire tablets, segregated or fine on the main wan?
  6. Damn, Is this unique to echo devices or do you think it would apply to things like the Fire Tablet as well? They don't really need speed as they're just smart switches but with the signal dropping to 60% at times, it's a lot lower than everything else. They did drop off to 0% a few times last night but i had just rebuilt the network so I'm assuming that was just because everything was newly setup. My previous setup (before i lost everything because i forgot to back it up and did a system reset of my pc) seemed to be pretty solid. The downside of using the software controller.
  7. Sweet and last but not least. I currently have smartplugs in my room (About 20m from the AC Pro) which are hidden under my bed and thus only receive roughly 60-70% signal strength. I've been thinking about using the wireless uplink feature to put a AC lite at a location in my room to get a better signal to them. I understand this will have a speed impact because its effectively like a mesh but would that have a speed impact when connecting to AC pro as well or just the ac lite or am i going a bit overboard considering they do still get a connection. I've been weighing that up for a few months.
  8. Damn I did not know about that. Does that extend to lan amazon products like the Cube? sweet, sounds like chucking them on the IOT network will do the trick. I also have a phone that i can't give updates to because the latest updates disable a feature on the phone I use which i presume makes the phone more of a security risk. As a result, would you recommend chucking this onto the segregated IOT network as well? Currently its on its own.
  9. I'm using a Unifi setup, following the below tutorial. So do you reckon i should isolate the amazon echos as well? I also have a fire cube connected via ethernet which I don't think is possible to segregate or if that's needed
  10. Hey everyone I'm in the process of segregating my IOT smart home devices onto their own network. These are mostly the cheaper devices which I assume have less security behind them like sonoff smart switches, broadlink minis, b-hyve smart sprinklers, kogan kettles etc and because this network is only 2.4ghz, I've chucked my Ring doorbell camera on there as well. My question is, should I be including my Amazon echos in this? I have presumed up to this point that they likely have better security than my cheaper devices so I've let them sit on my main 5ghz network along with my laptop and phone but should I be creating a separate 5ghz network purely for them to isolate them from the main network or am i being a bit paranoid here? Cheers
  11. Just tested it, with the new ram in by itself, same issue. It won't start.
  12. I7 6700K Noctua NH-U12S Gigabyte GA Z170X Gigabyte GTX 1070 EVGA G2 750W 80+ gold psu The computer tries to turn on with all 4 sticks in but just keeps rebooting without even loading up the initial screen with the bios option.
  13. Hey everyone, I was looking to upgrade my pc so I purchased some more ram after noticing i had two slots left. The original two sticks I have are the Mushkin Blackline 16 GB (2 x 8 GB) DDR4-2400 Memory but they weren't on sale so instead I got Crucial Ballistix Sport LT ASUS TUF Edition 16GB Kit (8GBx2) DDR4 2666, upon trying to plug them in the computer won't start properly. Is this because the original is 2400 and the later 2666? I didn't think to check at the time of purchase so I'm assuming I've just wasted a bit of money. If they're not compatible, can someone tell me which is better and I guess I'll need to purchase two more of that type so they're all the same.
  14. Update: Wyze camera issue resolved with firewall rules to allow the ports https://support.wyzecam.com/hc/en-us/articles/360031479511-What-ports-are-necessary-for-Wyze-Cams-to-operate-
  15. Hey everyone, after about a month of questioning and re questioning myself I went all in on a Unifi set up for my home. I managed to get my network up and working. I've also followed the tutorial below on how to isolate the IOT devices to make them more security but I've ran into issues and also have one more question if anyone is able to help. With the firewall settings, my Wyze cameras will no longer connect. I figure I could create a new wifi channel specifically for them to resolve the issue but I assume there's a way to get them working while maintaining the firewalls. Also, Some of my devices only get 20% wifi coverage on 2.4ghz although they sit between 70-90% wifi experience. In situations like this would you recommend a second access point as a mesh point (I can't wire) near those devices? Maybe an AC Lite? I've tried wifi analyzers to see if it was a channel issue and it doesn't appear to be. Thanks
  16. My local stores "Cyber monday" sale is coming in just over a day so i really need to get this sorted, is anyone able to assist?
  17. Hey everyone. I'm looking to get advice as to what products I should get with my setup, I've currently been recommended Unifi which has a great reputation but there are couple of limitations and questions I have about this before I fully invest. I only have roughly a day and a half to make up my mind on what to get so any assistance in this would be appreciated. What I'm trying to resolve: Over the last year and a half I've been into getting smart home IOT devices like the ring doorbell, smart plugs, smart lights, robot vacuums, Echos etc etc but what I failed to do was do what I now know all people getting into this stuff should do.... make sure your network can handle it and my doorbell and smart plugs drop offline from time to time. With up to 15-25 2.4ghz devices chatting my routers wifi simply is not up to scratch and my purchase of an ASUS 86U gaming edition didn't do the trick either although that model may have a 2.4 band issue judging by the reviews. Range isn't a concern as my place is only 1 story and only 3 rooms long although as I'm renting I have no ability to mount the AP's but I'm told by others that although they won't work as good as they can, they'll still work even when not connected to the roof. Solution: I've been recommended ubquiti's unifi products. I'm coming from consumer products so this is all a lot of information very quickly and am being told they're likely to resolve the issue due to simply being better hardware. Others have recommended multiple AP's just to lighten the load of the 2.4ghz devices as well which brings me to my questions: With this situation, would you recommend the LR or PRO AP? I've read so far that the LR has better 2.4 connectivity but the pro is better at 5ghz (I've got roughly 5-10 of these at the moment) and the pro is 3x3 for both 2.4 and 5ghz which I assume will help the connectivity. Would you recommend i go all in and get the USG or Edge Router & a switch? I was thinking of just placing a non POE gigabit switch to my existing ISP provided router and connecting the AP to that considering it's the wireless that's the problem. If not would going with the USG and any gigabit switch do? I'm planning on using the provided injector mostly because I read that if a non POE device gets power down the line, it can wreck it and id rather not risk that to my Pc/fire cube etc. I'm probably being dumb here but I'm new to this. Would multiple AP's be better than a single one to reduce the connectivity issues with the 2.4ghz network even though there's no issue with range? This is more of an optional extra, is there any way with this to get an external HD connected to the network so I can access it from any device? Appreciate your help
  18. Out of curiosity, is there a router you'd recommend? I'm looking for something that can handle this but perhaps also one where i could connect to an external hard drive on the network. Also with POE, what would you recommend here, I'm a little concerned of plugging in my ethernet devices and accidentally frying them. Again thanks for your help
  19. There we have it then. Looks like Unifi after all. Thanks mate.
  20. Sounds like chucking it on the desk behind a monitor would still work fine then
  21. Is there anything infront of your AC Lite that would possibly obstruct it? Just seeing if it was able to put it behind something.
  22. Not sure which one you mean, All the solutions have 5ghz, the issue is that most of the smart home devices these days only connect via 2.4ghz.
  23. What's your coverage like? Pretty much everyone has told me doing this is just a no go but perhaps since my place isn't that big it would be fine.
