  1. hey folks, So, tried the suggested fixes, Things are still broken. Its as if chrome has some kind of internal proxy or DNS which is broken. We also tried changing to chromium and the new Edge beta, and anything using the chrome engine is behaving the same way Anyone else have any new ideas ?
  2. Sadly, already tried reinstalling chrome. Whatever it is it seems to persist through installs. Also tried resetting it's internal settings It's almost as if it's trying to run some kind of internal proxy (which i checked for) which fails. Anyhow will try the Beta as Zyco suggested
  3. Hey folks, So, fresh install of windows 10 on a newly built PC. Everything is up to date and drivers etc are installed. Edge, steam, discord etc all work fine. We've setup public DNS (tried google 8.8.8.8 and openDNS ones) and while everything else network wise works fine, google chrome just shits the bed constantly. We start it up, go to a website and nothing loads for a very long time, then maybe after a while we get a text only view of the site. So a title and some links etc and then nothing else. We've tried resetting the DNS, the winsock thing... checked for extraneous extensions that might have been loaded automatically etc. And turned off hardware acceleration and generally followed a few different guides on how to "fix" this issue. But so far no dice Anyone here have any good suggestions ?
  4. I'm looking for a good 200/250 euro monitor standard HD and around 24'' but i can't find any decent review lists or comparison charts etc. Anyone know of any out there ?
  5. As reported by heise.de apparently the impact of the windows patches upon the performance of SSD's is even greater then the impact upon CPU operations. https://m.heise.de/newsticker/meldung/Intel-Benchmarks-zu-Meltdown-Spectre-Performance-sackt-um-bis-zu-10-Prozent-ab-SSD-I-O-deutlich-mehr-3938747.html One relevant (google translated) section from the article reads c't: Significantly lower SSD performance after security updates c't has also seen significant drops in SSD performance after installing BIOS and security updates (Core i7-8700K, Asus Maximus X Hero, Samsung 960 Pro, Random Access with 4K blocks and 32 I / O-targets). The Samsung SSD only reached 105,986 I / Ops for reading and 79,313 I / Ops for writing compared to 197,525 / 185,620 I / OPs (previous BIOS, Windows with KB4054517). Further analysis, benchmarks on the effects of patches, and reviews of updates can be found in the upcoming c't issue 3/18.
  6. The one with the "custom" power cabling makes me wince! The one with the binder is just fun imo
  7. Actually it makes perfect sense if you don't think about it like a customer. They charge so much to discourage customers from buying it, it's quite literally "Bugger Off" pricing and the reason is so that they don't have to keep so many spare parts in a warehouse laying about space and costing money in storage fees. In their eyes keeping a healthy stock of spares on hand is a big money loss so pissing off a customer by making them jump through hoops for parts is the cheaper option. (for them)
  8. I'd do something on Etsy about pins or stickers, but Linus would sue me out of existence
  9. Didn't see a post about this sort of thing so I thought I'd start one Let's be honest folks, sometimes you just need to get something working and damn the consequences. So while it may look horrific or silly or downright dangerous take a picture of your secret shame (or pride) of the time you had to put your "creative thinking" skills to use or of when you had to stop and say "Hm, what would Linus do?" And me? I'm stuck between cases and waiting for RX580's to come back onto the market at "sane" prices, so I'm stuck using my old modded HD7950 which is to damn big to fit in the proper slot and needed extra support to stop it sagging. Lego to the rescue Oh and the plastic is there because I can't put the HDD cage back into the computer (Video Card is to long) So now the HDD's sit outside with the plastic replacing the side panel to help keep dust out. Worked surprisingly well
  10. Oh look a show that was doing a mediocre job in the ratings suddenly pulls something controversial in order to get views AND if it still tanks they can blame the fans for their misogyny instead of the poor writing >.>
  11. if you know the model or part number from say browsing other sites you can probably order it directly from dell.co.uk or so
  12. huh i'll be interested to know what people find in the source code
  13. So I used some of MSI's tools to record voltages and found something.. well I dunno if it's odd or not for Ryzen. I know the system automatically adjusts the clockspeed but I noticed that when it drops the core speed to like 1.5ghz or so it also drops the Vcore down to about .8 which makes me somewhat concerned as so far all system issues have happened outside of high demand ie not gaming etc.
  14. It is warmer lately, but the CPU temp and overall system temp seems to hover about 50C idle and the CPU goes up to about 60c under load. Power supply is > EVGA 650 W G2 GOLD 80+ I picked it up in December so it's fairly new still I've just tried updating the mobo's onboard audio drivers etc and we'll see how things go. So far it's only happened when playing back video in my webbrowser Oh I also updated to bios 1.4 a few days ago
  15. Hey folks, I've got a new Ryzen 5 build. New Mobo/Ram/CPU with older SSD drive, and year old PSU. I've been getting an issue where the sound will suddenly start stuttering and then the system will abruptly shutdown (Though the LED for the power button, showing that its on, will remain lit) I'm really quite confused and not atall sure where to begin with this. I'm reasonably confident the PSU is okay, but beyond that I'm at a loss.
